Paisley is a Presbyterian Minister, and if you knew anything about Presbyterianism, you'd know it descends from the SCOTTISH Reformation, not the English! The Church of Ireland, is the "Anglican" or Episcopalian Church in Ireland.
Ulster's Protestants, (Ulster-Scots or "Scotch-Irish" as you call them!), are Presbyterians not Anglicans, because they came from Scotland originally, like John Knox!

It's a gross generalization, but as a blunt rule of thumb, you can tell a person's national ancestory by their Church: Anglicans = English (Anglo-Irish), Catholic = Native Irish, Methodist = Welsh, & Presbyterian = Scots/ Scots-Irish!

Paisley is a Presbyterian Minister, and if you knew anything about Presbyterianism, you'd know it descends from the SCOTTISH Reformation, not the English! The Church of Ireland, is the "Anglican" or Episcopalian Church in Ireland.
Ulster's Protestants, (Ulster-Scots or "Scotch-Irish" as you call them!), are Presbyterians not Anglicans, because they came from Scotland originally, like John Knox!

They are the direct descendents of the Church of Scotland, like Presbyterians the World over, and took their Church with them to Ulster in the 17th Century during the Plantation. They too, like the Native Catholics, were discriminated against in Ireland, and couldn't hold Public Office because they were NOT part of the Established Church in Ireland, (the C of E!).

Episcopalian & Presbyterian tend to be more gentrified & even liberal, thus not popular, especially in Appalachia. Now snake handlers are another story.

I don't know much beyond the stereotypes about Baptists, (Gospel singing & the prefered church of Black Americans), but Methodism was a movement within the C of E, that began at Oxford I believe. It found a home among the Welsh over here.
It's a gross generalization, but as a blunt rule of thumb, you can tell a person's national ancestory by their Church: Anglicans = English (Anglo-Irish), Catholic = Native Irish, Methodist = Welsh, & Presbyterian = Scots/ Scots-Irish!
