I do think that thanks & recognition are due to Mr Benton Flippen .. for re-introducing that beautiful 'pure' authentic stringband-dominated rhythm & tempo sound to Old Time Music. This band of musicians doing Liza Jane, sound very similar to Mr Flippen & his Smokey Valley Boys .. re that sweet multi-string-combo backing rhythm that carries their tune & their playing so well ...
I wouldn't compare this group (the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers, one of the most eminent family bands, with a decades-long history in the music), to Benton Flippen. They are representatives of distinct regional traditions. The Hilltoppers are from East Tennessee and Benton Flippen is from Mount Airy. I would say that Flippen's style is a bit more modern than the Hilltoppers', in any case.
The music is indeed sweet. Wish I had been there. Love the washtub bass.
