  • HOLY SHIT!!!!

  • VYCM is ALOT larger than this shows.

  • um the sun is actually not visible well it would lok like a speck of sand or dust when cannis majoris is compared.

  • Chuck Norris has got two laps around Vy Canis Majoris set on his "runkeeper" app

  • our little sunshine is so tiny

  • the sun is supposed 2 be smaller than that

  • Ohhhhhhh shit

  • l think the title is a little misleading since our sun is HUGE, its just that its smaller in comparison, l dont see you getting all in his face and saying" OI, Sun VY is bigger than you you small jackass!" (promtly gets smooshed into scorching human juice)

  • @40thCenturyTrolls I was thinking the same thing.

  • That is a lot of energy..........

How is it that there is all this energy going though our universe yet we seem to be able to claim we can't get enough of it?

  • @DeaddudeRS Because we way to primitive to harness this power.

Hell we still on oil, which is a very primitive way to get energy.

  • I love science.

  • there are much larger things than this out there

  • @pcfaulkner yea i saw your mom last week....HOLY SHIT i got scared

  • this true and real

  • You give our sun way too much credit

  • wtf is giving all that room in space i belibe its the 7 skys

  • u think on the other side of that star there is another planet like ours?

  • the red sun of krypton.

  • no i dont think our sun is big

  • I feel tiny.

  • vy canis majoris is 1,700,000,000 miles across, or 3,063,500,000 kilometers across. not 2,700,000,000.

  • @pedrobr88 actually its 1,729,800,000 miles across sorry i made a mistake

  • press

    7

  • loooolWTF?! The VY Canis Majoris is a billion times bigger than the sun -_____-

  • your scales are off it should be 1:1,700,000

  • ither the sun should be smaller, or VY canis majoris should be bigger

  • this isn't accurate

  • should put earth next to our sun and then that star next to our sun... that would be cool.

  • @iamsuperfritz

it wouldnt be cool, it would be BOILING! :3

  • Earth: This is weird! Is hot here!

    VY Canis Majoris: Excuse me!

Earth: (Melted) Nooooo! You are cooking me and the other planets and the Sun!

  • in retrospect. yes our sun is big, it is larger than 85% of the stars in the galaxy. of cource there are the true monsters,

R316a1, the neuclear star with the most mass,

and canis majoris vy, the largest star.

of couce, our sun is the perfect size for life to occur. a habitable zone far enough away to not be angle locked. a fairly doctile star, one without many truly large solar storms, has a quite long lifespan, about 10 billion years.

  • thats hell for sure

  • @Djinnhydra the sun CAN'T blow up and will not blow up he will turn into a red giant and finish into a nebula.

  • @mastrtimtom Nebula=explosion

  • Comment removed

  • @spartz117 It is the layers that detaches from the sun so its not an explosion. when you dont know of what you are talking about you shouldnt right stuff like this...

  • @mastrtimtom Ok i forgot

  • @spartz117 nebula is a star's gas that is not held together by gravity anymore. it's basically a growing cloud in all directions with ever decreasing density until it disappears.

  • And we're afraid of OUR sun blowing up... Imagine if this thing erupted

  • I like the video, but VY Canus Majoris is WAY bigger than that compared to the sun. The sun can fit into VY Canus Majoris about 1 Billion times, so basically, the sun should be almost microscopic compared to the red hypergiant.

  • cooool

I like to ask people how many stars they can name, give them about 4 or 5 seconds. Then ask them to name Santa's Reindeer....it really is a let down but it gets the point across.

  • @WorldFleece but if you do not know Santa's Reindeer then you can't just say "oh but i can name 4 or 5 stars" also, naming stars isn't exactly a common subject. It's not a let down, don't look at it like that. If someone doesn't know 5 stars they may know 5 country's which contain expensive antiques and know their history? is that a let down?. The fact is, you can't look at it like that or generalise, it's impossible.

  • @zixerqwert I agree, these small spaces don't leave alot of room for lecture...My concern is cultural not individual. I agree with you at the individual level. It's dissapointing to see social mythology relegating to antiquity given our knowledge of the sky today. Compare what children of ancinet Greece or Ur would know of contellations to today with light pollution and TV. My point is that things that appear in the sky are no longer easy to explain with myth, it's a waste culture.

  • ill tell u somethings do you know that this star is a few thousand or millions of light years away it would need to take a star wars. Jet plane to reach us then kill us

  • if u compare earth to VY Canis Majoris Earth is invisible because if u comaper sun to earth and the solar system earth is dot

  • next question: YOU think VY Canis majoris is?

  • @TMtricks umm yes .......

  • @TMtricks for now yes!!

  • @TMtricks If people can now more, VY Canis majoris is so small. Then think our earth and that, what is much bigger than VY Canis majoris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TMtricks lawl

  • ha! the image is not exact, more like Sun to Betelgeuse (Alpha Orionis or α Ori ) ; in fact, VY Canis Majoris is much bigger compare to our Sun

  • if i had been asked befor my birth i wud deny to b born.

  • bad scale...

  • if you understand all those measurements, then surely you already have a grip about how big this bad boy is. the way you put our sun next to the hypergiant made it seem like the difference between our sun and it was even smaller than our earth and our sun. we wouldn't even be able to see our sun next to canis majoris. our sun is about 1 million times the size of earth, while this monster is one BILLION times as large as our SUN. so morale is: visualization fail.

  • This is so wrong in so many ways..the cooridents are only slightly correct thing.

  • I would be more excited about Betelgeuse than this bad boy.

  • A VERY LONG TIME FROM NOW

VY Canis Majoris: I am feeling like I'm gonna di... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMM!

  • isnt this star a red hyper giant?

  • @zigggeh yes it is the biggest star known to man and the only red hypergiant we know of

  • @zigggeh woh ur smawrt

  • 7 billion years from now:

vy canis majoris: iwanna go to slee--BBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dinobublz it won't take 7 billion years! If you read about super and hypergiant stars, they dont leave more than some million years. In only some millions years vy canis majoris will go to an hypernova or spectacular supernova! It will be unbelievable!!

  • @jeffrey200800 yeah i kno but 7 billlion was just my way of expressing a long time :P

  • in a long time:

vy canis majoris: i feel si-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

  • what happens when that star falls? it will be like the real WTF BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

  • The end of that stars life will be daunting to say the least.

  • If the sun were that big, then VY CMa should be Arcturus, 1,000s of times smaller than VY Canis Major.

  • Betelgeuse is many ways smaller than VY Canis Majoris

  • you cld fit a million earths in our sun 0_O

  • Just Try BETELGEUSE

  • @baboonsquadron How About Milky Way?
