The American Colonization Society refused to support the initiative to Hispaniola, but they wholeheartedly supported the colonization of Liberia and Sierra Leone. In fact, Rev. Loring Dewey lost his position with the ACS because of his support for emigration to Hayti. Hayti (Haiti), the newly independent black nation, was too close to the United States and ACS did not want to offend The South and there is more...! Politics of the period are very interesting; I challenge you to learn more.
Excellent video. People don't realize that there were African Americans of the USA that settled in DR in the 1820s. Their descendants still remain there.
