Wood burned properly has very reasonably low emissions, and wood is a renewable resource, unlike coal and oil and natural gas. Burning wood properly, in a heating stove, especially modern EPA certified units, is very cost effective and beneficial. Rather than building a big messy fire to clean up the yard, burn it in a wood stove to heat the house in the winter. This takes care of the yard cleanup and winter heating all in 1 step.

Actually, if you go to the site that the video links to, they state in the other videos that modern wood stoves are a good option. If you see lots of smoke coming from your chimney, you are not using a wood stove very efficiently. One thing to look for if you want a wood stove is a stove that is EPA certified. These stoves are 75% efficient or better. There are some that are rated in the high 80s.

I doubt wood smoke is harmful at all. Nothing is more natural. What is not natural are all these (Green) people who do not have a clue. If mother nature does it, chances are it is not harmful and is in fact a good thing. When did common since die?

Outdoor leaf burning in a tightly packed neighborhood should be banned by all local governments. It is impossible to keep the harmful smoke on the responsible person's property.

The last time I had a leaf burning neighbor, he stayed at home while his wife worked. He had no empathy for any of his neighbors and frequently shouted obscenities at his wife and small children.

If we push lawmakers hard enough, and quote public service announcements such as this video, maybe the laws will change.

The average human life span has doubled since the end of the 19th century. Along with medical advances, the phasing out of wood burning for heat and cooking is a primary reason.
