  • Richard Pryor wtf I thought that was obvious

  • of course its biased its da brits and ye yanks wud only have five foreign comedians or maybe less than that

  • where is Dave chappele? He's not on this list OR the 2010 one???

  • @13abie And where's Carlin??

  • I completely agree with this.

  • Bullshit!

  • Frankie Boyle??????????

  • Seems a little biased............

  • Louis C.K. ?

  • and JIM CARREY OF COURSE

  • not a bad list, tho i would do some additions, like PABLO FRANCISCO, JEFF DUNHAM, or ARNEZ J (at def comedy jam), watch it, it's worth it

  • jerry seinfeld!!!!

  • Billy is so fucking awesome he is by far the best comedian ever <3

  • Billy is by far the best

  • Billi connoly What the !!FUCK!!

  • Dave Chappelle ?

  • Billy Connolly???? Carlin, Pryor, Cosby, Seinfeld, Murphy..

okay as Szaam mentions this is a British show.. so it is biased. granted. fine.

  • Richard Pryor, Howie Mandel, and George Carlin are three of my favorite comedians!

  • Where was George Carlin?

  • @gazzawhite

Carlin's at 62! this is definitely not in order! this is blasphemy!

  • WHERE THE FUCK IS MY FAVORITE COMEDIAN?!??!/1/!!1/1/1/!?!?

  • Peter Kay No/2 hahahahahahaha that is a fucking joke.

  • no milton jones? stewart francis? steve hughes? can't wait till they re-do it or have i missed something

  • no milton jones? stewart francis? steve hughes? can't wait till they re-do it

  • i skipped to number to see lee evans.

  • omfg where is dave chapelle, eddie griffin and wtf bill c hes not fucking funny george carlin would fuck this faggot up

  • @Tupac786Jr You realise that this is a British show? It's predominantly British comedians that made the list because it was compiled by British critics and British polls. Dave Chappelle and certainly Eddie Griffin haven't got a very big following over here. And also, don't use the word "faggot" as an insult, it makes no sense to do so.

  • who the fuck is he ?

  • Paul Merton - in my opnion - should have ranked a lot higher. Also where is Colin Mocherie haven't the British heard of him??!!

  • thumbs up if you think bill hicks should of won....

  • @johnplayer20s

Impossible to choose between him and George Carlin.

  • Thanks for the brilliant upload! Thought they'd forgotten Billy until they said he was number one lol.

  • That's fair, some pretty great comedians, I think Noel fielding should be on there, but still

  • @DriiiverD8 who is this noel fielding???

  • @johnplayer20s english comedian, he's in a duo (although technically theres like 5 of them) that make up the mighty boosh, if you have the right sence of humour he's (and all of the mighty boosh in general) are damn hilarious, look em up

  • Raquel Welch (0:53) was so fucking hot its almost unbearable.

BTW, no Bill Maher? Fuck this list.

  • i cant belive billy is no1 peter kay wipes the flaw with him!!!

  • @dyson0069 lol u loser

  • @dyson0069 no he doesn't. love peter kay but theres no way in hell he would last as long as billy has.

  • sorry but best comedian to ever live is george carlin billy's good george is better

  • @carlo88moe yeah I guess but I mean why was Lenny Henry even on this list, there are better stand-ups and Jim Davidson and Roy chubby Brown aren't even funny, neither is they guy who makes nursery rhymes into jokes :/

  • I can't believe that Louis CK or David Cross weren't in this list, or the 2010 one but Jim Davidson is not only in the top 100 but the top 50?! He's just a really arrogant, sexist dick!

  • @dogarmyrecords i doubt anything but a small British minority know them...

  • Billy who?

  • @RandyC444 typical american ignorance. no doubt you're far too arrogant to even bother looking him up if you haven't heard of him.

  • @RandyC444 connolly. Very surprised you didn't know his surname after a watching a video about him...

  • I remeber when i was in seville for the celtic v porto game of 2003 and i recollect about 50 guys all sitting round billy listening to him telling a story and we were literally pissing ourselves with laughter, its just sensational the way he tells his stories that makes him so special so moan and troll at me at will but I honestly think Billy Connolly deserves his place at the top spot

  • THIS LIST IS SHIT. As a stand up comedy buff, this whole list has been pure crap!

  • no..way..connolly........number.....one

  • #1 - Rodney Dangerfield Billy Connolly

    #2 - Ricky Gervais

    #3 - Richard Pryor

    #4 - Peter Kay

George Carlin and Dave chappelle are shit

  • @LeeSteven1 GEORGE CARLIN IS SHIT????? DO YOU WANT TO GET SHOT?

  • No John Cleese!?!! Maybe not considered standup, but still.

  • lol billy connelly and peter kay top 2?!

get bent, bill hicks is far more entertaining than both of them combined.

  • There seems to be a lot of anger from Americans on the placings here, but remember, this is a British list, and there's far more Americans on here than British in their Comedy Central version. They only had Connolly and Izzard, and Connolly was incredibly far down for what he has done in comedy. Having said that, Carlin would undoubtedly be top 10 if he was more known but he stayed in the states. Hicks was deservedly highly placed as he made his name over here.

  • @skynyrd202 Bill Hicks would win in an internationally unbiased list, I believe.

  • When Im in Glasgow I go to the People's Palace Museum and bow and worship under the big portrait of Billy and his banana boots! Billy Connolly is THE BEST AND ALWAYS WILL BE!!!

  • @Cody111079 just go on wikipedia, see if he is on it, problem solved. are you seriously saying you sat through 22 whole parts looking for only one person? and you are trying to blame someone else for this idiocy?

People getting worked up makes me laugh. Channel 4 hopefully do these things with tongue in cheek. Loads of the profiles were people ripping on someone. Most of the time they do it so one or two unknown nuggets can get some air time amidst the rest, it is better than nothing.

  • Wow, jus just goes to show what happens when you let the unwashed masses vote for something. Surprised we didn't end up with Bennie Hill.

  • My top five would have to be

    Bill Hicks

    Lenny Bruce

    George Carlin

    Mike Birbiglia

    Jon Stewart

  • now I love Connolly but if it's not Pryor...this is not any acceptable list.

  • Connolly is hilarious, but he isn't number 1. Carlin or Prayor are the ONLY acceptable answers.

  • the only funny british comedy is monty python. 100 unfunny comedians in a row, Wow! and last 5 were the least funniest. except for george carlin

  • the only funny british comedy is monty python. 100 unfunny comedians in a row, Wow! and last 5 were the least funniest.

  • George Carlin: 62, Mitch Hedberg: 78 that’s just blatant stupidity, I mean Carlin and Hedberg have to be top 10 min.

And how the fuck did Andrew Dice Clay even make the list let alone 36 he was fuckin shit along with Jim Davidson.

Jimmy car should also be top 10 and Hicks needs to be top 3.

How the fuck does Harry Hill make top 5 and Peter Kay number 2 he is fuckin shit.

I don’t know who voted for some of the clowns on this list but just goes to show the state of the world today.

  • George Carlin is the best comedian to ever do it. This list is void.

  • At the height of his brilliance, no-one can touch him. He was a comedy genius and this list is perfectly accurate.

  • There is no doubt in my mind that Billy is the best stand up comedian ever. There is even a documentary on him with commentary from guys like Robin Williams, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Steve Martin etc where they all agree he's the best.

  • Comment removed

  • I desperately wish I found Billy Connolly Funny

  • I've never heard of this dude

  • lee evans should be number 1.

  • Keep in mind that everyone, sense of humour or not, got to vote on the list. Most people have shit taste.

  • No Rodney Dangerfield, yet Jim Davidson makes the list?

WTF is wrong with you people?!

  • WTF! No Rodney Dangerfield Sam Kinison or Henny Youngman anywhere on this list

but somehow Andrew Dice Clay, Roseanne and some guy named Peter Kay make it on the list!

    those crazy brits

  • yeah, but where the fuck is russell peters.....??

  • @califinn

    Scots ARE Brits you retard.

  • @califinn

    Scots ARE Brits you retard.

  • Fuck yeah Billy is the man very pleased he got number 1 :)

  • Bigger fan of the Scots in comedy than the Brits...reminds me of American humor.

  • Everyones list is personal, mine wouldn't have Chubby Brown, Bernard manning, Jim Davidson and a lot more.

  • British biased. But I don't blame them because other than Ricky Gervais I wouldn't list any british comic in my Top 100 comics. Not even Billy Connolly.

  • billy conelly is good...But fck it must have Been like 75% British/irish Voters for this top 100 crap list..

  • How is the number one not bill hicks, george carlin or lee evans? WTF

  • @sw33n3ybill

    Because Lee Evans is shit

  • Billy Connolly is the funniest man alive in the whole world - all these new people are just kids, he was funny before anyone else. Dave Chappelle!? Don't make me vomit. Everyone in stand-up today owes something to Billy.

    FUNNIEST MAN ALIVE.

  • @UnOxonien Haha, yeah, Dave Chappelle? Please.

  • if you don't like Bill then FUCK OFF YOU FUCKING BEIGISTS!!!!!

  • Billy Connolly is the British version of Dave Chappelle.

  • @TheSpy009 Except funny...

  • @anonymousLeroy Whether you think a comedian is funny or not, is arguable... unless your just a racist. I find both comedian incredibly funny for very different reasons. If Dave was still doing shows (HBO Spe. tours etc) he would be a king among kings(in the US comedy circuit) cause, he is that good of a comedian and so is Billy. And this is just the British perspective of their comedians and humor of that time.

  • @TheSpy009 Well I wouldn't consider myself racist, but the term has become so loosely used that practically anything is considered racist now. As is, I find that most black comedians talk about one of three things: 1) The differences between black and white people, 2) Drugs and 3) The word "nigger". Now, I must admit, this can be funny. But after listening to every black comedian talk about it, no matter how different their perspective is, it begins to lose it's funniness.

  • this is sooo biased !! it was supposed to be the top 100 greatest british comedians !! plus if it's the top the british where is michael mcinyter, danny bohy, russell howard and more !! stupid ranking !!

  • @YAS9112

This was done before Russell Howard & Micheal McIntyre were famous.

  • As a non-American and non-British I am just pleased all my favorite stand-ups are included in the list. George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Robin Williams etc (although I agree with many, Carlin's position is WAY too low). And Billy Connolly is my #1 as well. There isn't a perfect list for everyone. And I certainly don't believe Comedy Central's list is better at all. Letterman in top 20? Come on! Everytime he talks I want to punch him in the face.

  • I wasted a lot of time watching this bias British bullshit.

  • @itcanbecheezcaketime The list was voted for by the British public, how did you not expect some bias?

  • where is dave chappelle?

  • @billydakid6826 dumb ass, this is top 100 british comedians in case you havnt noticed

  • @deathmoster then why didn't they say that in the title or description?

  • @deathmoster

I didn't know Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Andy Kaufman, Richard Pryor, Jerry Seinfeld and Steve Martin were British DUMBASS

  • @Dhammond5 they were bigger in britian than they were here fucking retard

  • @deathmoster

Well its still not top 100 BRITISH comedians then is it fuck stick

  • @billydakid6826 Probably in Africa "finding" himself

  • @billydakid6826 HE IS THE BEST!

  • Nobody better, this man is the best British comedian ever, every modern day comedian that is around now would not be doing stand up comedy if not for Billy fact!! Jimmy Carr, Kevin Bridges, Frankie Boyle mere imitations of the great man!!

  • @Kbillyssupersounds87 I suppose so, he started of as a comedian and did a few performances, one at the Edinburgh Festival. But his famous characters of Mr. Bean and Blackadder, probably created an image of himself as an actor. It's a shame. But you can watch some old performances he did just by typing in Rowan Atkinson school teacher sketch. It is him doing a bit of stand-up.

  • this a bullshit top!

  • Where is Michael McIntyre on the whole list?

  • @Benvnc Haha

  • Billy Connolly

    Stewart Lee

    Eddie Izzard

My top 3 comedians from this list

  • @pickupthepiecez completely agree and Ross Noble would be 4th.

  • For my whole life, I thought this was John Cleese with a beard... heh

  • Pretty good choice for Billy Connolly. That's a guy who doesn't screw around! I really am glad that Lee Evans and other comedians made it on the list. They didn't come where I wanted, but at least they got on the list somewhere. Cool stuff.

  • when will people see that bill burr is the man

  • I only have seen this guy on a series of unfortunate events

  • Was Russell peters in the list... and yeah Richard Prior made it.. he was like the 5th and so did Eddie Izzard (he is awesome)

  • Did Richard Pryor make the list?

  • @CoolerKing37 number 6 i think.

  • Comment removed

  • At first this list seemed to be worth less than the paper it was written on.................but then billy connolly won and it saved the whole thing

  • This is interesting. I'm an american. i haven't heard of a ton of these. i did like how our comics were put in a different order than we put them in. emo phillips would never beat mitch hedburg here. but i love them both. and it was nice to not see george carlin way up the list. he is awful. he is always in our top 5.

  • wheres tommy cooper?

  • were the fucking hell is jim carrey fucking stupid

  • Reading these comments through has riled me a little. This isn't about America or Britain. It's simply a poll done by British people to find out who we feel are our favourite stand-ups. Simple as! I'm sorry that the American people on here felt it necessary to judge not just the list but British culture in general. As one of the listed great American comedians once said "have a coke n a smile n shut the f*ck up"

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry, wrong answer. The correct order is:

    1. Eddie Izzard

    2. Dylan Moran

    3. Ricky Gervais

    4. Jimmy Carr

And that includes American comics. I love Geroge Calin, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and Dave Chapelle but they does not stand a chance to these guys.

  • why isn't katt williams in this

  • the biiigg yiinnn!!!

  • Where did Bill Bailey come in this list?

  • michael mcintyre?? pablo francisco???rodney carrington??norm macdonald??gilbert gottfried??jim carry???maz jobrani??bernie mac??? Dave Chapelle???

    WTF??!!!!!?!

  • The problem with these lists is the humor differences between Britain and the US.

My objective top 5 which is NOT in a particular order. George Carlin, Billy Connolly, Bill Hicks, Richard Pryor, and Lenny Bruce.

Sorry Brits/Scots/Irish, but other than Connolly(who is truly a Comedy Titan), there are no others that can TRULY be placed ahead of those other 4. You can make a case for guys like Izzard, Gervais, and O'Briain but without those 5 you likely don't have them either.

  • Hmmm.... not my choice for number one. Its not about talent, for the vote, its about whose most well known.

  • @TulipFarella he is most well known... in the world for whathe does. do some research.........dont you hear steven wright...the american saying how good he is?

  • billy connolly remindes me a bit of george carlin

he isn't better or worse, but has the same kind of humor

  • Connolly! My favorite, shame he isn't more popular here in America.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm American. I love Billy Connolly. Even if I wouldn't put him in the top position, he's definitely in the top five for me.

  • Billy won fair and square.... although some should have gotten up to top 5 with intelligence stand up like Dylan Moran and Jimmy Carr, and that routines that include "nigga/shit/muthafucka" shouldn't be on the top 20 in the first place but it's all fair.

For all the Americans who don't know who Billy Connolly is.... watch "the last Samurai" or "Beautiful Joe"

  • Comment removed

  • @lelandpruitt99 huh? ummm... ok.... you just further enhanced my point lol

  • he is hilarious not the best though Frankie boyle or lee evans should be top

  • Why wasn't Dave Chapelle or Russell Peters in this? SAD!!

  • @sajmeister Because no Brit has heard of them maybe?

  • Dave Chappelle?

  • No Chris Tucker, Bernie Mac or Lewis Black? George Carlin and Dave Allen eclipsed by the likes of Alexis Sayle and Peter Kay? Who did they poll, the insane?

  • I live in the US and have never heard of Billy Connolly either. Just goes to show how insular the US is.

  • @DominicanLou excellent comment ,open and unbiased,

  • @DominicanLou sorry what?

  • Actually i meant to say los angeles not vegas lol

  • Billy Connolly has conquered practically every country in the english speaking world, hes done world tours, been in documentaries and stared in films. How the fuck could anybody not know who he is? I dont know how americans dont know him, considering he lives in las vegas. Right for all you stupid yanks, billy connolly = best ever, to be honest he's done way funnier stuff than whats showed here, but they are probably not allowed to show it. Hes was in the last samurai with tom cruise. LEGEND!

  • people it dosent where people are on the list are it just matter there on the list

  • Looking at the american list I hardly no ANYONE on there. Of corse it must be weird watching this from an americans perspective. Why complain about it?My main complaint is that jim davidson and bernard manning made it in at all? Awful racist unfunny comedian's. A total embarrassment to comedy in britain. Personally I would of also wanted rowan atkinson on the list somewhere, jim carrey, dave chapelle, hugh laurie, frankie boyle. Interesting to see bill hicks is only number 19 on the american list

  • FUCK THIS LIST!!!! its a lie how the fuck these cats ahead of richard....No cat williams?? martin?? Gorge lopez?? this list should of been the funniest comics in england..Straight up

  • @LosCabosdenuevoleon billy Connely is scottish

  • Not sure how Harry Hill and Victoria Wood made into the TOP TEN, I've never laughed at either, and I've seen enough shows to have given them opportunity enough to make me laugh - ONCE. Just ONE TIME. But... nope. They're just not funny.

  • eddie izzard is my no. 1

  • As much as I love alot of American comedians I doubt the list would be any better I am sure terrible comedians like Dane Cook would end up in the list.

Peter Kay number 2 really?? I dont understand how that happened.

  • U.S list has connolly at 73! but we put Carlin 62! But our list is much better overall

  • They may be UK best of all time, but not world best.Still, most of them made me laugh quite hard.

  • Shame the British never gave George Carlin a shot, I think he's the greatest. Love Connolly though, and Izzard. Not much for Peter Kay, but that's because I just don't think his material translates that well to an american audience. Nice to see Hicks so high up on a list for once, he's horrendously underrated here in the States.

  • Ah diddums! All you shermans from across the water. Not enough American comedians on the list for you, eh? Well, it was a British poll, so what do you expect? Personally, I love Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Robin Williams and Reginald D Hunter. But up against Ricky Gervais, Eddie Izzard, Billy Connolly, Peter Kay, Lee Evans and Omid Djalili (OK, so he's supposed to be Iranian, although I would never have guessed it), US stand-up just doesn't compare. Please don't argue for it is the truth.

  • Nah. Gimme Eddie Izzard.

  • yeah wheres rowan atkinson? and wheres COLIN MOCHRIE? he entertained me for hours with his jokes on Whose Line Is It Anyway!!

  • Is this a joke? Seriously? Un-fucking-believable. This top 5 was shit (aprt from Harry Hill) No Lee Evans, Frankie Boyle, Russell Howard, or Dara O'Brian! Pathetic!

  • rowan atkinson , jim carrey where the fuck are they.

well i can understand jim carrey because he didnt do that many stand up.

but its unforgivable for all basterds who voted not to put rowan atkinson anywhere in the top ten or at least in the top 100. ignorant basterds

  • @sudeti couldn't agree more... I was waiting for him to pop up and he didn't! And hugh laurie! And rik mayall wasn't high enough in my opinion. I thought these guys would be a shoe in for the list voted for by british! How could they have forgotten? I was only a small child at the time but I do remember watching rowan atkinson's stand up and my dad just being in stitches!
