For those wondering, I'm in masters league, but you don't need to be to pull this off. All you need is to be able to multitask slightly better than your opponent. You can ignore your drop completely and let it do its own thing while you manage the rest of your army and economy. You don't necessarily need to bring spellcasters and micromanage every unit, but you can if you are able.

Also, if you think this stuff is too hard to pull off, you're just bad. Sure, some of the things pros pull off is extremely difficult to do. This isn't one of them.
