  • Paul Webster was Lunceford's high-note trumpet player from 1935-44. Surely it is he on that last trumpet bit.

  • That's a young Gerald Wison on the tpt solo and Willie Smith on alto, Trummy Young on trombone

  • @nealbfinn All the credits I've seen say that's Snooky Young on the trumpet, may he rest in peace. But I wasn't there so I'm not 100% positive. ;-)

  • @Westcoasttony Snooky is on the date, but the solo is Gerald....according to Gerald. He also claims coming up with the title.

  • @nealbfinn That got me to explore this further and I found a sound bite from WIlson graciously explaining that critic Stanley Dance started the credit to Snooky-- "and that's okay," WIlson says,"because he's my dear friend..." WHoever did it, it's a fine classic solo. Thanks for that!

  • Is "Durham" Eddie Durham from Count Basie's band?

  • Eddie Durham did arrangements for several bands, including Jimmie Lunceford. I think it is safe to say this was one of his arrangements. Durham also arranged 'In The Mood' for Glenn Miller!
