I own an SL2 (Specialized crankset, Mavic wheels, all else Record). It is in a different league from previous SLs, or anything else I've ridden. So efficient. You feel like Pantani on the climbs. It's for racers only tho -- stiff ride, twitchy steering -- like a fast horse you have to show it who's boss.
I have a 58cm SL2 and it weighs in the low 15 pounds with clincher wheels. I've found that it is a great climbing bike, stiff and responsive when descending.
Is there a preview of the 09 graphics? Ive been looking at the Soloist SL for its good looks. If Specialized comes with a good paint job I sticking with Specialized.
Specialized is preparing a little modification on the SL-2 for 2009. They have increased lateral stiffness by 50% making an already strongest carbon frame on the market even stronger.
I got an sl2 a couple weeks ago. Being an employee at a high end shop, so I've ridden MANY of the nicest bikes around. This is the BEST race bike I've ever ridden. The only thing that comes close is the pinarello prince, at over $2,000 more for the frame.
I am riding a Tarmac that is carbon up top and has an aluminum downtube and seatstays: it is the S-Works Tarmac E5, the original model of the Tarmac. It was very expensive to build due to the need to bond the two materials, but the result is lots of shock absorption with a very stiff bottom bracket. Production ended in 2007 but it is a brilliant bike. Light, very responsive and startlingly quick. Looks good too, and descends as if on rails.
Hey specialized fans, whats that frameset thats a combo of carbon up top, and aluminum downtube and chainstays? Isnt it Mike Sinyards favorite? Is it in the same league as the SL-2 that Bettini rides? I like the way the Sinyard flyer is made in 57cm also. I dont race up mountains also, and weigh 180lbs, so isnt a carbon steerer pointless for me, in short hills CT?
beauty :)))

The Sl2 frame is, without a doubt, way too heavy to be a climbing frame. If your goal is to be competitive you'll need something lighter.

haha mate, if your riding a SL2 up a hill and not getting anywere fast, it's not the bike.

True that!

I am at the Specialized launch with their '09 bike and there is no structural change between the '08 versus the '09 SL2. Graphics were changed only.

Specialized now offer a "hooligan" graphic treatment for the SL2. Check out their site. Good luck getting one tho.

There is no change for the 2009 model. The 2010 will be different, but give me a break with the 50% stuff.

I must say, The Quick Step team is the Ultimate Proving ground for the framesets. But how many frames did Boonen break?

Hey, great video! I'm riding a specialized allez elite, it's great fun, but close to that one.
jurgemaister 3 years ago
An allez elite is very far from that one.

what I obviously meant to say, was that it's great fun, but not close to that one
