lately a lot of focus has been made on the T-Veronica virus for the RE5 publicity campaign...I would even say that T-Veronica might be involved in the game itself. and many reviews and the like have been considering RE5 as the "true sequel" of RECVX, so.... and I don't think Steve would be considered as "random". Without him, Wesker wouldn't have put his hands on T-Veronica....I'm sure he's somewhere alive and waiting to come back (hopefully in RE6)

Well it does mention that Tricell has a sample of the T-Veronica Virus, which Wesker gets from Steve's body.Plus in one the old Umbrella memos from the late 70's early 80's that you find in the first room after the underground cavern with flowers it states that a shipment of Progenitor Virus was shipped to Alexia for her experiments in the Antarctic, which is the facility we see here. Other than that though, you're right.
