Dr Mac Greal must be commended for his vision in realising the potential of this abandoned railway line. Crucially, his Herculean efforts in keeping the line in public ownership deserves our unending thanks.
He is one university lecturer, who inhabits the real world - not some ivory tower of academia.
i think the limerick to galway section will be used mostly by college students between ennis and galway and by commuters from ennis to sixmilebridge. its a service that will be a success. i have been behind the project since the start. i think it should never have been closed in the first place.
The track relaying on Ennis-Athenry is complete and Limerick-Galway services will commence in August. Hopefully it will not be too long before we see the rollout of Galway-Cork and Galway-Waterford services
also, together with Galway-Tralee/Killarney. The line is there now, it should be used to the maximum, so as to benefit the whole region.
