first impression is that it's very sweet. Then you start to realize something is terribly wrong with the society when you reach this level of ignorance.
that's so sweet. I guess its alot like the therapy dogs around where I live (they take puppies to nursing homes and it's highly loved) The interaction stimulates the elderly person's mind and keeps them alert. It's a very good thing ^--^ (doesn't help that now I want a paro DX]
Anything that makes the elderly happy is good. Old folks being happy is awesome.
Any family that puts down the cash for the cutting edge in elderly-happiness technology is cool with me. Yes, they should visit more often, but cute robot baby seals are cool too.
I admire the psychologists and the technologists who put their heads together for this. That's a really good example of smart people not wasting their talents.
I'm so happy saw that they love paro so much..paro is so cute!
But it sad to know that they don't spend their time with their family. If my parent become older, I will take care of them with my self. Beause I love my parents.
Who's idea was it anyways? I dunno, but it just brighten things up a bit to share with them for a moment. Kinda nice a bit... but families are BETTER than a stupid mechanical baby seal!
I guess that's the point of the robot.. a lot of elderly people feel like they've been abandoned by their families because they're too much maintenance etc. The baby seal enables them to relieve the depression they feel, there have been a lot of great reviews from psychologists and therapists about this seal!
Or, you know, maybe their families can't stay with then 24 hours a day to keep them company? I'm sure a lot of their families still come and visit. I don't think it's a replacement for their family, maybe it's a replacement for a pet like a dog or something, only better because this won't get tired of being picked up and petted all the time.
i pet one of those in the osaka airport! it's so frickin cute! it responds to your movements and if you pet it, it arches into your hand and makes adorable noises
I wish I can give my grandma this =( She always seem so lonely after my grandpa died.

The robot is bringing the people together. They are definitely socializing more with the other humans.

Cool idea, but he's really not any better than Pleo. This guy has very limited expression from what I've seen :(

A robotic pacifier for humans the rest of society is too busy to deal with.

I feel so sorry for these old ladies.
They are so nice and lonely and frail.
I am glad they look so happy with this artificial pet.

Their families should be keeping them company, instead of a toy. They should give them pets, but those might be hard for them to care for.

Such a neat idea. I've taken my Furby to work at the nursing facility and my residents adored him, even the ones without senile dementia.
