RV was in terrific form in this fervent and heartfelt rendition of Ingemisco. Just the night before, he launched the opening of the Lithuanian National Opera with a gala concert, then traveled some 1300 miles to Georgia for this Requiem. Truly amazing how he managed to sound fresh and strong in less than 24 hours after a major operatic concert.
Hi DalilaCarmen: Thank you for your quick response & info.I think the reason it did not post here was there were over 500 characters(roughly five lines);if over 500,you have to break and continue with a new post. It's better to post here so other RV fans can read it. I can imagine the magical scene with the entire sports palace lit only by candlelight. When you upload the Lacrymosa, I'll probably be able to recognize some soloists and let you know. Thanks again and best wishes,danbar73.
Hi DalilaCarmen: Thank you for this interesting video, and for confirming my little detective work that this concert originated indeed from the Georgian Republic. I read that this was going to be a big event with several thousands coming with lighted candles. Was this concert done outdoors?Do you know if it was recorded for commercial distribution?I will appreciate very much your reply. Thanks again, danbar73.
The video and sound may not be the best but RV's performance is solid and more dynamic than the Rome Requiem under Mehta on YTube. The faster tempo here suits him better. I notice that the soprano is blonde; others who sang Requiem with him(Frittoli,Cedolins,Urmana) are dark-haired. So,I think this Requiem is one that he sang last year in Georgia to benefit the children victims of war in that country. I forgot Pieczonska, the soprano at Carnegie Hall Requiem this year, is blonde. Thanks
This tenor is very good, sounding beautiful!
He has such a rich, filled voice... just lovely!
