Nikon D3100 - best entry-level DSLR?

If I want a video camera then I'll buy a TRUE video camera. I didn't buy my D3100 to take video. As an entry DSLR this camera has an amazing sensor and takes amazing pictures.

since im a nikon guy, d5100. but both d5100 and t3i are good camera`s. So my suggestion is to choose what you`re friends and family uses so you could borrow lenses. But go to a close by photoshop and handle both camera`s an choose wich one you prefer ; )

Auto-focus while filming is something that i NEVER use as a filmmaker. Because everything will get a home-video look wich is really crappy. And i am a beginner in DSLR filmmaking aswell, but my first DSLR is a Canon 600D. Because maybe you dont understand all those extra functions today, but you will understand them in a few hours.

So yeah maybe the D3100 is better than a 550D, but only if you are a little bit lazy i think...

The autofocus is normally very good, either you're doing something wrong or your camera has a malfunction...

I'm digging an Asian-appearing fellow with an English accent. I love hearing people speak with an English accent when you were NOT EVEN expecting it.

Concerning cameras: I've got the D5000 which is REAL close to the 3100, these are GREAT entry level DSLR's. In video mode there is a lot of frame-roll or the 'jelly' effect when you move it side to side.

British English is a lot different than American English the "I" is said different when followed by certain consonants, and that is why you hear him saying it like "Nikkon". Nothing wrong with that, but in all actual pretenses, it is supposed to be said that way in the British languages. All falls down to the area you live in. Try heavy redneck southern and you would get TONS of other pronunciations of the word "Nikun" things like that.

@PurelyStrings This or D5100, I got D5100 for my first, D5100 is on the middle between Beginner and Pro. D3100 is more beginner friendly. If you want a cheaper one, go D3100, If you got more money, go D1500 :)

I recently bought this camera (August 2011) and I've had it now for a couple of months. The only thing i don't like about this is that it has no plug for an external microphone and the video with low light is rather noisy.... For the rest it's a great camera!! :D

@lordjay555 Well yes the 5000 series is upper-entry level and the 3000 series is entry-level. The 5100 has advantages but it's also more expensive. Do some research to see which is better for YOU. That's what's important.
