  • we're looking for the palce or time we were used to be.

  • Still looking for, aren't you? We, too. From Japan.

  • Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike--GO GARDEN STATE--yeeeah!

  • am I missing something...? :-(( a bit tunless i tought blushing :-) nothing like scarborough affair :-)

  • @treblinska Sorry you'll have to speak up; I can't hear you for the applause.

  • am I missing something...? :-(( a bit tunless i tought blushing :-)

  • Garfunkel still hits those notes like he holds them in his back pocket....

One of the best Vocalists of our time... enjoy, my friends, while you are "laughing on the bus"

This stuff is once in a lifetime....

  • you know that audience wanted to clap...

  • all their songs remind me of the summers of my teen years. we would play the music out the windows of the cottage and relax on the dock or on the rocks in the hot summer sun!!! it was pure bliss, and these songs take me back to those great, carefree days.

  • @lovethemac1 I spent my summers in NYC but I think we are of the same generation because I remember listening to them during the carefree days of my summer.

  • Incredible talent. There will never be another S&G. To the individual that noticed the capo placement, yes, Paul runs the capo up and down the neck depending on the venue and where they want to sing the song. On Sound of Silence he ofter runs for 7 to 2.

  • That Paul Simon hit a huge vain of some great songs. There is something quite existential about this song.

  • i think this is my favorite song they did.

  • ma che capelli hia simon????

  • These guys are GODS of music,..

  • epic

  • nobody does music the way they do it!

  • Rod1148, yes Trough out my long travel journey, this is my semifinal stop USA a super lovely place. I ought to love it and always respect it.

  • A beautiful beach with my beautiful precious angel...let us be lovers we'll marry our fortunes together....ily

  • How many of you tried hitchhiking near Saginaw in the 60's? Truck after truck would pass and would sooner run over the hippies than pick them up! Ha ha

  • And I wondered if she cried when I read about his widowed bride,

the news it touched me deep inside, the day the music died.

  • @frankster47" Bye Bye Miss American Pie. Drove my Chevy to the Levy but the levy was dry. And t dear old boys were drinking whiskey & rye saying this will be the day that I Die, This will be the day that I die."

  • @strobx1 Simon and Garfunkel did not do this song nor was it about them. This song is about Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Richie Valens when they were killed in a plane crash. I dont think S&G even sang it ever. But the guy that wrote this song, Don McClean, actually toured with the boys on one occassion. Maybe that is where you got confused. Cool song though

  • @psi4rick You are completely wrong. Look it up.

  • @actormanic nevermind. You missed the entire intent of the conversation. I might reply to you this way...DUH!!

  • such a timeless duo

  • And you have spoken for our generation of America!

  • two Jewish boys here to save our souls...dejavu? :))

  • this song makes me cry every time.

  • pittsburgh yeah !

  • Wow

  • Brings back many, many memories. All good.

  • Anybody understands the Guitar Technique of Paul ? One of the most beautiful sounds in the world.

  • "I'm empty and I'm aching and I don't know why." Yep, We've all been on that bus...

  • @rod1148 this is where i get off. see ya! :))

  • why on earth was this considered to be an anti-'nam song?

  • really incredible!

  • I personally enjoy Yes' arrangement a billion times more, but seriously, these guys created the original song and deserve a ton of credit.

  • i grew up hearing these two on the radio all the time? and when we drove around town? i will always have a speacial place in my heart for them cheers!!

  • he really ca n play

  • @risto994 I noticed he put the capo down one fret from the original recording. On the original, Simon had the capo on fret 3 but in this performance he's got it down on two. Still a great job and I hope I could sing that well at their age. It's nice to hear Paul still playing good guitar too. I remember reading an interview with him in the early 80s and he commented that he had calcium deposits in his hand and fingers and could not play guitar like he used to. Glad to see he still can.

  • @mrsgstd Capo on the second fret is simpler, just going from C down to Am, as opposed to D down to Bm with a capo on the third fret.

  • @TheJseiler Yes, but he played the same chords after moving the capo. It's likely to lower the key to compensate for their aging voices. Which still sound good I might add.

  • "Michigan seems like a dream to me now..."

  • This song is so amazing. If you haven't heard Yes' cover of it, be sure to look it up, as well. Well worth a listen!

  • So easy, but so seldom...still.

  • I... I think I have something in my eye...

  • @squidflakes yep me2

  • It was so good that these two were able to patch things up after so long a time. I don't know which one said, it, but they said, "How long can one hold a grudge?" meaning that it was stupid to keep being so mad at each other for things that happened so many years ago.

  • song of the day!

one day early- it would appear to post a song called "america"- but in this town, our fireworks and 4th celebrations are on july 3rd.

i also like this song bc it's my parents "love song"- they've been married 42 years...yay mom & dad:-)

  • Still as beautiful as ever. I know this was 2003 but it's like they didn't miss a beat. Thanks for posting this.

  • love them. just love them singing...

  • You can tell that Artie really feels the song. Love the way he modulates his voice.

  • these 2 were magic together.

  • truly amazing

  • this makes me (still) cry

  • They sing of places, scenes and imagery--Music you can see! I close my eyes and they've painted a beautiful picture in my mind. Wholesome and heartwarming music that I want to wrap myself up in.

  • The music of the greats hopefully can humble and knock some sense into todays popular music.

  • The guitar sounds terrible! It's like a tin can with baling wire for strings. The problem is those insipid piezo pickups that make it sound like a cheap casio keyboard instead of a naturally mic'ed Martin. Listen to any other version of this from the 70s and you'll hear a sweet airy guitar tone, not this tinny nonsense. How did people forget how to make good audio in 30 years of technological advancement!?

  • @Cre8tvMG In my opinion the guitar sounds awesome.

  • @fricco1994

I'm glad you like the guitar sound! Seriously, because this is one of my favorite songs, and in spite of my grumbling, I like every version of it. (But, I'm a recording engineer, so I get picky.)

  • Gotta be a Martin! Awesome Gittar!

  • Whether you're into folk music or not, it's this kind of song that appeals to everyone. A simple tune sung with a single guitar and a nice harmony line. And most important, lyrics that conjure up such vivid imagery. These guys are among the very, very best at their craft. What a precious gift they've been given and in turn given us.

  • @ChrisBoylan - u know u like the YES version better lol!

  • @edguitartorres Yes!

  • Art Garfunkel may be older

but He is still one of the best Vocal talents of both the twenty first and twenty

second Century Challenge: WHO IS BETTER ?

  • This is the first time Dave seemed to actually like the musical act on his show.

  • i love art's voice more than anything. good god. and he's so old here!!!! amazing.

  • There a reason its Simon and... Garfunkel I don't know what but it's obvious it nothing to do with singing , song writing, or Instrument playing . Look as they transfer to the seats Puals like go away, take my guitar almost makes me sad for Garfunkel but he is loaded and will never need to work another day in his life!

  • so so good. I'm almost crying hearing this.

  • @idle44 I'm not sure if your familiar, but speaking of cry parts, nothing gets me like the Statue of Liberty smiling back down reassuringly in American Tune. It's like having a kid and watching I am Sam.

  • imagine all the songs they could have made if they had,nt fell out im guessing over money i dont know

  • They were special to me.

I wish we could all stay young forever..old age makes fools of us.

  • Oh wow. Didn't know they had been working together. Ok, a little older and shakier but still sublime. Art's voice is none the worse for being a little hoarser with time; still one of the best male voices ever. Thanks for this treat.

  • Makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.......... is the only place i have any hair nowadays ............ Thank you

  • Nice song in his jeans.

  • This music could only come from "Old Friends." Together or apart, S&G will always be part of each other, and of us...

    God Bless!

  • Listening to this makes me wonder where have all those years gone.

If you're young, get out there and visit places - don't think you'll always have the chance later

  • @dogs1905 - It doesn't matter what age you are. Life is all about what you do not what you have. You can have youth, age, riches, poverty, love, hate, but if you do nothing then you get nothing. A 90 year old guy can show god just as much as a 20 year old one, a 20 year old can die just as much as a 90 year old. All that matters is living and doing.

  • @dogs1905 You've got it. Travel, explore, never stop if you can. But here's the key: don't do it alone.

  • 感激です。アメリカの夢を感じます。

  • Deja Vu or what? I'm about the same age group as them and I hear my past in the song and see my present while they sing it, amazing.

    Thanks for this.

  • ysple, me too. Me too. I see my life in their song.

  • ...Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike...

    (so sadly beautiful...just amazing)

  • I like too. Something about this eloquent little line that conjures such sense of time and place. Always raises the hairs on my neck.

  • "I am empty and I am aching and I don't know why..."

  • "...and the moon rose over an open field..." what a beautiful song/lyrics. Thank you.

  • and the man in the gabardine suit was a spy...

  • foreverrr

  • They still got it!!! Yay!!! 

  • my god art garfunkle still has it after all these years, impeccable voice! and paul simon is just the same as he always has been, the most amazing talent !!! I love these guys they have been with me my whole life and they will stay till im gone!

  • i love this witty guy!

  • Brings the memories of my youth all coming back.. So nice...

  • Wellcome Japan!

  • PLS PLS PLS make a new cd together. OH GOD WOULD IT BE GREAT!!!

  • What started as a trickle, as beats and hipsters read "On The Road" in the late 50's, became at stream in the mid 60's...and a then a rushing torrent as the 70's arrived...as the self-liberated youth of America left their tenement slums, their rural back-waters and suburban cul-de-sacs and took to the ubiquitous 'Road' themselves...

...with this song on our lips.

  • beautiful words man.

  • i love this song! it makes me want to just run away! and live as much as possible! just in aww! Dez!

  • I am trying to go see them in sydney next month, i will die if i cant get there.

  • Simon and Garfunkel should be applauded for hanging on to their voices for all these years. They look and sound much better than most of the musicians from their era.

  • you are so unnecessary

  • That sound is inseparable. The name is Simon & Garfunkel....get it?

  • are you frikkin stupid?

  • simon was singing the low notes, and garfunkel the high notes. the sound is amazing

  • how can you say that??? are you insane or just stupid? without both of them there is no harmony and thats what makes them so beautiful!!!

  • the word is harmony. H A R M O N Y! This was the basis in the sixties as it is now.

  • u suck lizsoccer123

  • this is so beautiful. it's just perfect.... it about makes me cry it's just so perfect. almost like mere mortals don't deserve to hear this.

  • they do sound like angels even after all these yrs! :)

  • its taken me 35 years to work out the lyrics are 'mrs wagner pies' one of my all time favourite songs

  • iam 23 and since i was tvelve the most feared teacher in our school intoduced us to songs of silence and i have listen them ever since. i love them

  • They still have it after all these years ......great song!

  • Goosebumps.

  • captain picard on the new jersey turnpike!

  • pmsl i never picked up on that before

  • counting the cars

  • The range of emotion is incredible when i listen to this song.

  • Just Amazing !!! What a beautiful song.

  • Really wonderfull, im only 18 but this song touches me... Thank You Simon & Garfunkel for all the great Songs.

  • I am from their generation. Their songs span the generations. They are about the lives and life experiences of people that are timeless. I am glad you liked them.

  • I'm 14, and this is my favorite song, and this is the song I sing to myself when I just need to sing. This song has made me cry, and I listen to it everyday

  • about when I was 14, I think this became my favourite song. I like a lot of music, so I always say this is one of my three favourites, but I don't know the other two. Anyway, 5 years later, that's still true

  • Best American group ever.....

  • Comparing the clothes they wore in their concert at Central Park with this appearance, it's almost as if they traded styles of attire....

  • One of the most inspired and passionate songs of our generation. It took me until recently to figure out why I was so empty and aching back then. And sometimes I still miss her so.

  • Still buyin a pack of cigarettes and mrs wagner pies and walkin off to look for america. Love to see more interview

  • How lucky are we to be here to listen!

  • I love Simon and Garfunkel.

Their songs are beautiful and timeless.

They are a big piece of music history!

    Just think, fans ...

Simon and Garfunkel have more to come!!

    I view them as art!!!

    George Vreeland Hill

  • my favorite song of all time.... they still got it

  • deffo one of the top 10 songs ever made

  • Masterful singing, without histrionics. Musical giants.

  • This (and classical music) is the only thing that can calm me down so quickly, when I'm stressed. I believe they were called, "Tom and Jerry" back in 1955 or 1956 when they sang their hit, "Hey School girl!" Letterman simply rocks!

  • No words to explain how much is beautiful the semplicity they play and sing. Love this video!
