all their songs remind me of the summers of my teen years. we would play the music out the windows of the cottage and relax on the dock or on the rocks in the hot summer sun!!! it was pure bliss, and these songs take me back to those great, carefree days.
@lovethemac1 I spent my summers in NYC but I think we are of the same generation because I remember listening to them during the carefree days of my summer.
Incredible talent. There will never be another S&G. To the individual that noticed the capo placement, yes, Paul runs the capo up and down the neck depending on the venue and where they want to sing the song. On Sound of Silence he ofter runs for 7 to 2.
How many of you tried hitchhiking near Saginaw in the 60's? Truck after truck would pass and would sooner run over the hippies than pick them up! Ha ha
@frankster47" Bye Bye Miss American Pie. Drove my Chevy to the Levy but the levy was dry. And t dear old boys were drinking whiskey & rye saying this will be the day that I Die, This will be the day that I die."
@strobx1 Simon and Garfunkel did not do this song nor was it about them. This song is about Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Richie Valens when they were killed in a plane crash. I dont think S&G even sang it ever. But the guy that wrote this song, Don McClean, actually toured with the boys on one occassion. Maybe that is where you got confused. Cool song though
i grew up hearing these two on the radio all the time? and when we drove around town? i will always have a speacial place in my heart for them cheers!!
@risto994 I noticed he put the capo down one fret from the original recording. On the original, Simon had the capo on fret 3 but in this performance he's got it down on two. Still a great job and I hope I could sing that well at their age. It's nice to hear Paul still playing good guitar too. I remember reading an interview with him in the early 80s and he commented that he had calcium deposits in his hand and fingers and could not play guitar like he used to. Glad to see he still can.
@TheJseiler Yes, but he played the same chords after moving the capo. It's likely to lower the key to compensate for their aging voices. Which still sound good I might add.
It was so good that these two were able to patch things up after so long a time. I don't know which one said, it, but they said, "How long can one hold a grudge?" meaning that it was stupid to keep being so mad at each other for things that happened so many years ago.
They sing of places, scenes and imagery--Music you can see! I close my eyes and they've painted a beautiful picture in my mind. Wholesome and heartwarming music that I want to wrap myself up in.
The guitar sounds terrible! It's like a tin can with baling wire for strings. The problem is those insipid piezo pickups that make it sound like a cheap casio keyboard instead of a naturally mic'ed Martin. Listen to any other version of this from the 70s and you'll hear a sweet airy guitar tone, not this tinny nonsense. How did people forget how to make good audio in 30 years of technological advancement!?
I'm glad you like the guitar sound! Seriously, because this is one of my favorite songs, and in spite of my grumbling, I like every version of it. (But, I'm a recording engineer, so I get picky.)
Whether you're into folk music or not, it's this kind of song that appeals to everyone. A simple tune sung with a single guitar and a nice harmony line. And most important, lyrics that conjure up such vivid imagery. These guys are among the very, very best at their craft. What a precious gift they've been given and in turn given us.
There a reason its Simon and... Garfunkel I don't know what but it's obvious it nothing to do with singing , song writing, or Instrument playing . Look as they transfer to the seats Puals like go away, take my guitar almost makes me sad for Garfunkel but he is loaded and will never need to work another day in his life!
@idle44 I'm not sure if your familiar, but speaking of cry parts, nothing gets me like the Statue of Liberty smiling back down reassuringly in American Tune. It's like having a kid and watching I am Sam.
Oh wow. Didn't know they had been working together. Ok, a little older and shakier but still sublime. Art's voice is none the worse for being a little hoarser with time; still one of the best male voices ever. Thanks for this treat.
@dogs1905 - It doesn't matter what age you are. Life is all about what you do not what you have. You can have youth, age, riches, poverty, love, hate, but if you do nothing then you get nothing. A 90 year old guy can show god just as much as a 20 year old one, a 20 year old can die just as much as a 90 year old. All that matters is living and doing.
my god art garfunkle still has it after all these years, impeccable voice! and paul simon is just the same as he always has been, the most amazing talent !!! I love these guys they have been with me my whole life and they will stay till im gone!
What started as a trickle, as beats and hipsters read "On The Road" in the late 50's, became at stream in the mid 60's...and a then a rushing torrent as the 70's arrived...as the self-liberated youth of America left their tenement slums, their rural back-waters and suburban cul-de-sacs and took to the ubiquitous 'Road' themselves...

I'm 14, and this is my favorite song, and this is the song I sing to myself when I just need to sing. This song has made me cry, and I listen to it everyday
about when I was 14, I think this became my favourite song. I like a lot of music, so I always say this is one of my three favourites, but I don't know the other two. Anyway, 5 years later, that's still true
One of the most inspired and passionate songs of our generation. It took me until recently to figure out why I was so empty and aching back then. And sometimes I still miss her so.
This (and classical music) is the only thing that can calm me down so quickly, when I'm stressed. I believe they were called, "Tom and Jerry" back in 1955 or 1956 when they sang their hit, "Hey School girl!" Letterman simply rocks!
