They may all close thier eyes but a sign of a healthy monitor is being alert. Period. Look up a care sheet for them, they're one of the most difficult lizards to care for. They need high humidity, space, and cleanliness.
Mine closes one eye when scratched and if i move my finger away his head will follow just to get scratched a little bit more, some people read to much shit written by fuckwits!
im glad i KEPT READING THE COMMENTS couse i got a savanna and he looks just like yours except a little bigger and when i pet him he closes his eyes and every lizard iv had or seen does it so i thought for a second "could it be true does my lizards allways end up stressed" but then i relized all these comments sayn there stress if they close there eyes well my dog does it and so does my parrot so i think you guys need to find a better research place couse your geting false advice srry if i ofend
all lizards close their eyes when they get pet, its how they are, mine always close their eyes, its just a natural response. even my turtles do it. mammals do it too sometimes if you notice that
@112ewr that is very true. because the animals eyes are un-pretected....if someone was messing around with your face your natural instinct is to close your eyes.
What about my leopard geckos? If I pet them for a while they start to close their eyes and fall asleep. =( I don't want them to be stressed... I don't handle them much, and they usually willingly climb onto my hand if I put it near them.
Do you think that they are stressed when I "pet" them?
They close their eyes so they dont get poked out..I have serval lizards that close their eyes when being petted, and you cant tell me mine our "stressed" A lizard is stressed the minute it is put in captivity whether you touch it or not. Play with your lizard take it outside and have fun with it.I dont think this is a reptile forum. Thanks for the video
@bigboy3293 Bigboy knows exactly what he is talking about.. he has owned countless monitors and other reptiles in the past, anyone who listens to these random people who don't know much about sav's should take heed of this message.. there is nothing wrong with the monitor in this video.
Not puppy dog tame or healthy. Notice the eye closing when he touches it at 0:16 , its a classic sign of a stressed monitor. U can tell it was handled to the point where it stopped running and now starts to play dead when it is touched or approached. Hint why he doesn't move the whole video...
@DJKapeesh I know you are concerned for the monitors health but not only was this monitor in good health but is also one of the monitors we held back and have worked on breeding for the last year and a half. He also turned out to be she and shortly after this video was made dropped some beautiful eggs for us. This is also why we kept her. I appreciate the diagnosis but quite frankly it is wrong.
@UNDERGROUNDREPTILES I could tell it was a she by the box like head, males are more elongated, this one has a wide head for a female though... the eye closing is not a sign of a health issue the guy above this comment is talking bullshit.
I have a juvenile female that is very untrusting she will not close her eyes when you do that, yet our male will... and my previous 3.5 foot bosc would sleep when his head was stroked.
@UNDERGROUNDREPTILES Common knowledge. Essentially, it has learned it can't avoid you, and so it is trying to be a bump on a log in hopes that you will leave it alone. An unresponsive and lethargic Sav is a very unhealthy one. I had been thinking of purchasing from you in the future, but after seeing this it is safe to say I will not.
@JakesJayas sorry didnt notice any stress in his body language. I had savs last 25 yrs and pretty much seen it all. Consider other factors such as every touch and time is different, this sav is healthy, robust and confident.
@JakesJayas My lizards fall asleep when I pet them, if they don't want to be pet they walk away. Closing their eyes means they are comfortable a lot of the time. Or it could mean something is just going towards it's face a little fast. Even dogs close their eyes when you put your hand straight infront of them then pat their head. It doesn't mean the dog wants to die. The monitor in this video wasnt even breathing heavy or backing away at all.
stop telling lies they are special eaters like extremly hot and humid tanks air tight to keep humidity in they are not good beginner reps dude and its way to fat
@XoticAnswers hey just let it know where the foods coming from and let it make the first move or it will just play dead in your hands it won`t be tame it`ll be scared to death.........
not healthy... to fat... not tame... obesity causes illness which takes away there activeness and effectivly the will to live.,.. this can allso be mistaken with tameness.. but in reality its just slowly dieing
@jamestheme123 I'm sorry I really have to disagree considering that the animal you are looking at turned out to be a breeder which we are no holding on to and still doing great. I appreciate your comments but your diagnosis is way off.
