How to fix: since you did not press delete world and closed the window. Go to the .minecraft folder where the saves are located and right click on your save and copy and paste it to the desktop incase this doesn't work. Go back to the original file in the saves folder, right click it and hit properties, then look for the tab that says previous versions, look for a version thats previous to your death ......tada!!

get mcedit, then open your world in it and hold down control and press "i", it will then come up with the world information and you can change the world type from there (survival, creative etc...) thumbs up so he can see this and continue his epic adventure!

I think what you can do is start a random new world in survivle mode, then outside of minecraft go start, search run and %appdata% then go to ur .minecraft folder then saves. you should then see all the worlds u created. press on the new world u just created and delete everything exept data. then go to ur hardcore world and copy everything but data and paste it in your new world folder. then when u click on your new world in minecraft, it should work. I havent done it in a while though

oh and um you should have made a back up folder from the save at a certain point ... or you can put the save in a server than put THAT save in the game and get a start from spawn point ...You will only have lost the inventory items you had with you in the mine ... Hope i'm right Pure and good luck
