  • lol aparently according to some there was no bronze age lol

  • Ehh, i dont really like that fundamentalist christianity takes the name of religion. I am a thelemite and spirituality, philosophy and science make my life. If religion were suddenly gone I'd definatley have some sads. Not really if it were just christianity though.

  • If it suddenly dissapeared in todays soceity not much, go back 4-500 years there would have been panic and mayham.

  • Dude, instead being on youtube, we ought to hang out.

  • For example, take the Scandinavian countries. They turned towards secularism in a big way. And now look at them; Islam is rising up in their midst, the shadow of the Arabian prophet looms larger and larger over them. Check out Mark Steyn on this issue. No society can escape from God; He will always find some way of regaining its attention.

  • G.K. Chesterton said that when men cease to believe in God they will not believe in nothing, they will believe in anything. What would most likely be lost is democracy and freedom, bearing in mind that most atheist ideologies invariably produce totalitarian regimes. In a sense the question is academic because God will not allow a society to simply ignore Him. In one way or another He will take that society by the scruff of the neck and say: 'You don't get away from me that easily.'

  • 4:12 >-> delivery?

Definitely agreed with this, Sol. I've asked the question my self of many things. "What would happen if this was lost?" "Does this really help?" etc. It helps understand things in greater detail. And it's rather fun =P

  • what was the music at the start

  • Six - All that remains.

It said it at the end of the video.

  • this to the guy with the negative views comment. With all due respect my friend the whole is a fuckin negative and harsh place to live in henceforth going bak to reality. And no matter how much u dnt like something 9 times outta ten nothin is gonna ever change.

If you can face the true harshness of the world then dig a whole and live in it... maybi you'll be happy there

  • As long as a supposed "god" is held on a higher pedestel than fellow people and individual freedom the world can never accept a perfect society.

  • No offence but if you think loving and allowing God to guide you means not caring about others...your dead wrong. If anything he gave us the tools to love each other and wisdom through the bible and personal relationships to use that love, and he calls us to love our neighbor as ourself. My learnings from God have improved my relationships and life because he's idea of love doesn't change like ours does (with emotions swaying if someone offends or dissappionts us) love is.. 1 corinthians 13:4-8

  • Yup! Because that doesn't contradict anything in Leviticus, Kings, Deuteronomy, Revelations... etc...

"he's idea of love doesn't change like ours does"

Then why such a change between the Old and New Testament?

  • 1)I had some ideas for this rebuttle, and i also spoke to my brother who's really good with this stuff. So here here we go! There aren't any big changes in God, his love didn't change. There's alot of things saying how Kind, merciful and patient God is. People got judged in the new testament aswell.

  • 2)OT focussed on Israel as a nation who got judged when in rebellion against God and they were blessed when they listened and obeyed. They were to be the example for what God had set: Obey=blessing;disobey=discipline. Deut 30:11. NT focusses more on how the church should live, probs they faced and what Christ did better than the OT. Heb 10:9-15, Luke 4:19.

  • I found stepmonsters comments worthy of a laugh, how stating your opinion somehow became some kind of religious persecution based slap in the face to him.

  • the farther we can seperate church and state the better. I think god should have nothing to do with rational decision making.

  • BumLegionair,

I looked and found that you are in America. Interesting. If you hate America so much, why don't you please leave. We don't want you here if you feel that way about America. Move to one of your imaginary Utopian paradises where people are free of religious oppression and can become what they want to be. Oh yeah...that would be AMERICA!

  • what would happen, you ask.

I tell you what would happen: everyone would need to find a new opiate.

  • Unfortunately, you are right.

Its a damn shame our species can be so delusional and stupid.

  • its funny how the fear of "self" results in all these idiots... hahaha

  • You are pushing you bleiefs all of=ver YouTube. I am not. Point made.

  • You are pushing you bleiefs all of=ver YouTube.

    ^^^

Funny, for a guy with a supposed psych degree, you have no understanding of spelling or grammar. Weird.

I'm not pushing my beliefs on anyone - I don't care what you truly think, as long as you do not claim to have specific knowledge of things which are unprovable and think that somehow this allows you to shove your views down other people's throats legally. I mean, how about that gay marriage, or inter racial a few years back?

  • Sol, if we all woke up organic atheists tomorrow, we would all be angry little punks like you.

You are pushing your beliefs more than any "fundamentalist" or "Christian". I am a christian for instance, yet, I have not posted a single "Go get saved" video. You on the other hand have posted 32 rants on atheism. Now, who is the zealot?

  • I don't push my beliefs on anyone - I don't give a damn what you think, as long as you don't want to infringe on the rights of others (Hello Proposition 8), or try to push something into the public domain which is blatantly anti-reason (such as creationism). Unfortunately, religion has a bad habit of doing both of these things, which is the main reason why I target it so much.

  • well, maybe if you woke up and looked at the world around you for what it is, and realized how big of a lie enveloped most of the world, you would be pretty pissed off too, or atleast care about it maybe?the church in america specifically is horrid.for example, most cases of child abuse and molestation is comitted by surpressed religious fundamentalists who are usually protestant.

  • Interesting points, but it seems that you would ask a religious person (as you define them) to exchange their dogma for your dogma.

You speak of people being programed, but is your indoctrination of atheism not programming in its own right?

You seem to be an informed atheist. How would you say an atheist state could mandate ethical truths or laws?

  • Being skeptical of unlikely claims is not being dogmatic. There is no dogma tied to not believing in a god/s.

Why do you assume that religion is a force for moral behavior, or intrinsically tied to it? I've run into plenty of statistics suggesting that religious beliefs, despite the claims of the religious, do not statistically improve crime rates at all. Assholes will be assholes no matter what they say they believe.

  • One can "say" they believe numerous things, but it does not mean they truly believe those things. So you would obviously say there are logical absolutes? Therefore logic is the governing force behind an atheistic state? By logic do you mean symbolic logic or are you referring to some different form of logic?

  • >How would you say an atheist state could mandate ethical truths or laws?

Logically and empathetically, like any other secular state. And once again, the sheer disregard for reality in your statement shocks me. Name one theocratic society that you would actually want to live in, especially if you were a woman or gay. Theocratic societies are shit holes - there is a reason why church and state are separated in sane society.

  • Just as I am shocked at your disregard for the meaning of separation of church and state within the American system of Govt. You obviously see the founders as trying to keep the church out of the state, this is the antithesis of what they did.

You seem very quick to judge other societies. You do understand that your attitude of demeaning others reflects negatively on yourself.

Empathy? I agree, but you do seem to lack the quality that your state would govern by. Unless empathy is selective.

  • You seem very quick to judge other societies.

    ^^^

What? Are you suggesting that the ones that stone women for being raped, and kill gay people for being themselves should be respected? Are you fucking insane, or just entirely disconnected from reality?

  • You obviously see the founders as trying to keep the church out of the state, this is the antithesis of what they did.

    ^^^

    ಠ_ಠ

Are you suggesting that it was done for the sole purpose of keeping state out of religion?! No. To a degree, it protects both religion and state from idiocy - but the main threat is a single religion taking over the state which has historically led to bad things.

Go read some Jefferson quotes. Now.

  • Go research how many ministers signed the declaration of independence.

I guess the ten commandments are not inscribed on the doors of the supreme court building either! What about prayer in congress?

Should I ignore other Jefferson quotes that speak highly of the Christian religion? Should I discount what other founders said about religion (ie Madison, Henry, Jay).

You may say what you want, but if you view the evidence you would find religious influence has always been in our state.

  • I think the real question here is, "what would be lost if Sol R. vanished?"

The answer: I don't know, it's hard to imagine a world that beutiful.

    Sucker.

  • What would religious people lose, you ask? I say "peace of mind", that security that an afterlife exists and that those who've "wronged" them will be punished for doing so.

If everyone believed, followed a dogma, however, I think technological advances and the evolution of the human mind would grind almost to a halt. We would de-evolve, return to the mindset of the ancients, bring back sacrifices and burnings at the stake and all the religions of the world would be at war--until no one remains.

  • Absolutely correct!

  • It is true that the world we live in is bad. Our fantasies are, as you suggested, preferable, to reality, but that is one reason why we need to live in reality, experience it, suffer it, and endure it. We owe it to our kids, to know what's out there.

You ask what would be lost? The obsession with afterlife would be lost, and instead, people would pay more attention to *this* life. With observation of our current struggles, we can discover a way to improve our world, and not depend on fantasy...

  • I know, I was a once a strong Catholic and slowly I changed to atheism, it took me 3 years and I still said prayers before I went to sleep. what finelly changed me completely was when I read the Bible cover-to-cover.

  • Me too man me too. I was a relatively strong Protestant (Born Catholic but went Protestant at 11) By 17 I read the Bible cover to cover and it was clear to me that it was Bullshit. I was learning about Evolution and really starting to look at the Cosmos so I read it trying to rekindle my faith. It really just made me despise religion. Not all Hinduism and Buddhism have strong morals. The rest are utterly disgraceful.

  • good video!... i can predict what they're going to say though. "SALVATION!" >.>

  • People would start making up a new religion. Then that religion would branch off. Then separate religions would form. Most people cannot deal with death. It is too much for them to comprehend. So they will do whatever it takes to have someone else tell them what happens. What did you think religion was started for anyway? A place to hang out on the weekends? DEATH! Good song by the way.

  • the question was a hypothetical one of "what would happen if religion disappeared" assuming that it's going to come right back again defeats the purpose of the entire question >.>

if everyone suddenly saw how ludicrous religion was and all became non-believers, what would be lost?

  • It is sad when people forgo living their actual lives in favor of a life they *hope* exists afterward. That kind of explains why people can be conned out of their money by televangelists and faith healers and such, doesn't it? People will give up everything they have for the prospect of getting just a little bit more, when it comes to religion. My opinion of it all is "a bird in the hand, is worth two in the bush". Why waste your current life when you only hope the next one will happen?

  • Organic Atheism: Good for diets. : D

If that happened the world might improve a bit, but we still have a way to go.
