  • this brought tears to my eyes and i thought i was tough

  • Great version of this lovely Irish air, borrowed by Friedrich von Flotow for his opera 'Martha' Vienna 1847... music by John Stevenson and words by the Irish poet Thomas Moore

  • a lovely piece of music on its own with out the words

  • although this is a wonderful rendition of the song and the voice of Suzan gives off a startling beauty i think that the Penny-Whistle is too shrill and over-powers the recording. This may not be so evident to the "Live" auditorium. But, all in all, a greg performance.

  • Wonderful

  • ¡¡¡Gracias Dios por la música!!!

  • what was the Green instrument??

  • @ianliao924 A penny whistle.... or did you mean the soprano ;)

  • this an ode to the end of life. The composer was a Christian. I mean a real Christian ,not some stupid European socialist.

  • @peterboy48 I think Irish Poet Thomas Moore would have been regarded as pretty left wing for his time. His songs and poems reflect this . Not all socialists are stupid and not all conservatives are clever. These are random traits in society.

  • Gothic! Pirate's camp!

  • I always give thumb up when i see this video! I love this beautiful melody!!!

  • ANDRE RIEU É D+++ AS MUSICAS SÃO LINDAS!! AMOOOO!!

  • It's a beautiful song but most people just don't listen to the lyrics. All things come to an end ,especially European society. Good-bye.

  • @peterboy48 How do you know that? The lyrics are beautiful too.

  • verry beautyful 0:30 --->0:36 how andre look at flute man

  • This is beautiful Lamoricone. Many thanks for the upload

  • *goosebumps*

  • AO OUVIR ESSA MUSICA E COM ESSA ORQUESTRA SE TEM A IMPRESSÃO DE ESTAR NO PARAISO!!

  • Lindissima a música, belissimas interpretações.

    É a perfeição"

  • wonderful.... WONDERFUL

  • How sad that a beautiful voice was crushed by the volume and over embelishment of the instrumentation. This is a beautiful and sensitive song. I have a version by Clannad, the simplicity of their rendition is in total contrast. Would like to hear Mirusia sing this "Botany Bay" style.

  • Magnífica interpretación y bien ejecutada!!!

  • exploding with happiness right nowww!!

  • It's a sad song about growing old . Are you people so stupid that you can't grasp the meaning? The Irish are sentimental, that is their strenght and their weakness.

  • See Deanna Durban's version - also on YouTube. It is wonderful.

  • @The99Gambo And far superior!

  • Wonderfull!!!

  • does also exist a chieftain's version?

  • so perfekt ,ich liebe es

  • É linda

  • wonderfull just wonderfull like him

  • no words can describe this music , outstanding , Andre at his best, the world is fortunate to have such talent , the singers are wonderful, god bless

  • its only fault... perfection wasted on an outdoor stadium. would love to hear this in an auditorium..

  • It's an Irish song about sorrow.

  • Andre, thanks for giving us these beautiful moments through music

  • Not the best and all these awful pauses and poor breath control. The word is KINDRED pronounced as in SIN as opposed to MINE. Leave these songs to the Irish :)

  • @hamefurgid So Irish don't breath?

  • @pwb54 I am referring to correct breathing techniques while singing. Perhaps the fact that English isn't your first language caused a misunderstanding :)

  • Nádherné.....

  • Great performance!!!!!

  • Suzan the Angel is singing. What a lovely girl.

Suzan de Engel is aan het zingen. Wat een liefdevolle meid.

    With Love from Gio.

  • Do you know what the author was trying to convey? It's over for the West!

  • Leave it to the Irish!

  • Often, the way to beauty is clear and simple...

  • Amazing Susan Erens ! Wonderful song and orchestra.

    Bravo!

  • My Goddess. owo This gave me the goosebumps!

  • Esplendoroso!

    carlosayres

  • I live there XP

    Ha,so funny...

    But celtic woman is better!

  • This was pretty good, but if you want to hear an extraordinary rendtion listen to Celtic Woman or Deanna Durbin. If you are honest with yourself, you will not likely want to hear any other artist after that.

  • @dlrunner I love the celtic women...But this did give me goosebumps!!!

  • missionfarstar - rubbsih.

She sang with feeling & concentration.

Tears in the audience said it all.

    Suzan is a fine singer

  • The song and the mood that this performance is spreading in my soul, strikes me just as hard every time. The music starts and I have to hold my breath so I don´t miss a thing, and when the last notes reaches my ears, I notice that I yet again have tears in my eyes.

  • Shiocking rendition.

This is how it should be sung:

    youtube.com/watch?v=4FyzxhLWUxY&feature=related

  • Once again...the best of intentions gone terribly wrong. I feel l sorry for anyone who honestly could like the way this blah blah blah rendition was put together and performed. The cost of putting this number on would have served a far higher purpose feeding at least 386,000 starving children in Africa..

  • @missionfarstar how manny starving children have you fed today?????????????????

  • In my opinion...a terrible disjointed rendition..poorly metered, rushed and monotone. Very boring and no feeling.

  • @missionfarstar Agree, hate all these pauses, added notes and poor breathing technique.

  • sensacional

  • Lovely song. Too much going on though. I'd really like to hear her voice.

  • great music...magnific!!!

  • six people have cold hearts

  • I luvv this song! Itz so beautiful....thumbs up if u agree.......p.s. 6 ppl suck

  • Hm... I know this song from Celtic Woman and to hear this.. It's dissapointing..

  • toccante!!

  • Suzan Erens has indeed a wonderful voice. Is amazing. And this song is beautiful, I didn't know she sang this. I'm really amazed 'cause I love this song and I like them (Andre Rieu, the orchestra and also Suzan's voice).

  • GREATEST SONG AND MUSIC !!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXCELLENT WORK !!!

  • i like the music but i dont like her singing

  • its too bad suzan is no longer with that orchestra. There might be a better soprano but she has what totally fits to this song. Her voice is very special. the way she sings is moving.Best wishes to her up in Norway if she is still there.

  • By the way, the trumpet (or is it a coronet) player at the start of the clip has beautiful come to bed eyes!! :p

  • This girl has a nice enough voice but no stage presence which is a shame. I know 12 year olds who could have sung this far better. By the way the word is KINDRED pronounced KIN as in SIN.

  • there are not many songs that will bring tears to a old solidier eyes ,but this one just did .(retired u.s. army 33 years 1975-2008 )

  • I'm becoming a fan... Just Wonderful !...

  • Susan looks like she dislikes the song.

  • nobody in youtube can see how this video has bee destroyed and arrange it?

  • What a great combo -- Teun Ramaekers (you can't beat this flutist), Andre Rieu, and the magnificent Suzan Erens. If only she were performing again, either with Rieu or in another venue.

In the meantime, this youtube rendition is dysfunctional, and we hope Lamoricone will upload a new version. THANKS!!

  • That damn pipe drives me nuts and spoils a great song. Plus poor Suzan looks like she's coming off an all night bender.

  • @keydet72 Your an Idiot! the pipe is the best part of the song, what the fuck is wrong with you! you have no taste in music! If you agree like this!

  • @keydet72 I think you;ll find that this song is Irish and the penny whistle is a traditional instrument in Ireland.

  • @Scotsbell I have an old book of music which includes several Irish songs including The Last Rose of Summer but it lists it as National Song of Ireland, was this an unofficial anthem prior to independence??

  • @sandyrow100 Sorry, have no idea :)

  • @Scotsbell .Never imagined a penny whistle could sound quite like this.

  • @ianwalkerdownland Yep, I used to murder one years ago LOL!! If played properly they can sound lovely, like this version.

  • Woooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • I love this piece and Suzan! I'm thankful I'm NOT Irish though.

  • Breathtaking!!

  • this is so beautifull! I was borne in belfast 1944

  • ik hou van dit nummer :P

    perfect !

  • Musica perfeitamente perfeitaa....

  • I think you can blame the sound man all together. It even looks like they don't even hear themselves.

  • That lady ruined the song... Great voice, but little control for this song.

  • Very overdone!

    The penny-whistle is too piercing.

Perhaps it's all in the mixing.

Doesn't beat the version of this that I saw in France sung by Nana Mouskouri.

  • One of the Best Versions of this Song! Very good with the Orchestra!

  • The Last Rose of Summer is a poem by Irish poet Thomas Moore, who was a friend of Byron and Shelley. Moore wrote it in 1805 while at Jenkinstown Park in County Kilkenny, Ireland. If you liked this song, you should check out some of the others by this amazing Irish writer.

  • Wow people who compose these songs should live forever!

  • @ct5006360 we all do

  • @ct5006360 They do live forever, through their music. I know what you mean though, what AMAZING music for the soul.

  • Utterly Magnificent.... so moving

  • wonderful so wonderful.

  • A beautiful song and orchestra

  • Beautiful rendition of this traditional song. I will miss you, Susan. Hope you sing some more somewhere else, soon.

  • its godd, but i think its a little too much, i like the celtic woman's version better, it has more drama and solemnity, u can really feel their emotions..i'm not saying this is bad, i just heard someone's version a bit better..

  • Beautiful video and song !!

    Serena

  • very beautifull song and music, the best version i have heared.
