  • interview Buddy Neilson

  • The love I have for this man cannot be written or measured by anything on this planet. Its a big statement to say but, Max Bemis is the soul reason I'm still alive today, every time I feel like "topping myself off", I chuck on say anything and instantly I'm saved. I've laughed, I've cried, I've mourned and grown with him. That saddest part is I don't have the chance to tell him how much he's done for me.

  • Why the hell would anyone dislike this video?

  • Wow, call me ignorent as I have been a fan of Say Anything for literally years, but I never knew any of this about him...I just enjoyed the music,I did not think his songs drew from his personal life and experience...and now I seriously appreciate him and his music on a whole new level. I don't think he is even aware of how real and awesome he is putting all of this out for the whole world to see.

  • It's always nice to have someone to relate to that inspires you and that you look up to; telling you just what you needed to hear, just a little spark can cause a flame, and that flame can cause it to spread. Once you find that fire inside of you it's hard to put out.

Thank you Max for giving us your advice and giving us hope that things are going to be alright.

  • Where's television like this today! Getting personal and deep with the people fans adore. I know it makes me feel closer to Max - in the sense that I get to hear his story and get that much closer to understanding him.

  • @TheRichHobo23 Nah, he was always like this. Even before his drug-induced masterpiece.

  • Wow. It absolutely amazes me, that someone could watch this video...Max Bemis, putting his whole entire life out there...and have the guts to press the dislike button. Like anyone else would have the balls to do this.

  • hey, screw you.

  • @JacobyLong When you deal with a situation like Bi poalr, and you wait 18+ years to find out why the fuck you are the way you are. You cannot help but talk about it........(Same thing happened to me)

  • oh my god. when he chokes up at 1:24. i absolutely die.

  • max bemis is the most incredible guy in the world <3

  • I absolutely love Max Bemis. The most beautiful thing about him is that he's so human and doesn't try to make it sound like he's "fixed and better and making a difference and you can do it too!" He's just telling his story and trying to relate it to other people so that they can understand.

    Plus, his writing is magnificent.

Keep fighting, Max! You're the shit.

  • Fuck yea!

  • I like hearing what max has to say.

    It's honest.

  • wow this guy is really awesome because of this.

    8D

  • I think it might be the case that many creative geniuses are bi-polar. Maybe it's a sad consequence of having a very active mind and imagination. But at the same time, if you are bi-polar, I don't think you should just blindly celebrate it and wear it like a badge of honor, but should diligently try to keep it under control - instead of let it control you.

  • Weed is not physically addicting but mentally and when it comes down to it, addiction is addiction and its hard to break. So stop fighting and just take in what max is saying and use it for yourself please.

  • Listen, Marijuana isn't chemically addictive such as nicotine or coke... it is mentally addictive... people like being high... therefore they do it a lot... it makes everything more fun... it makes sense... its like playing video games... hahahaha

  • @kissxforxyou when you use the word "as" to qualify how bad something is then all your doing is finding something worse to justify it. Killing people is worse than taking heroin, doesn't mean it's good to take heroin. Marijuana may not be as addictive as the next drug but it's addictive...full stop! You're either trying to be cool or trying to justify an addiction!

  • Ive been smoking for over a year and im far from addicted.

"stupid sack of shit ive ever met"

oh,excuse me? when did i meet you? oh yah,,,, never. your hella retarded.

I really dont understand why your getting all offensive because youve "been through this."

you think your all knowledgeable and shit.

    BAHAHA.

    kbye

  • @katelynrene you've been smoking a year and your not addicted? try stopping for a month, then try and tell yourself that.

  • lol ive gone days w/out smoking weed. you cant get addicted; i dont give a fuck what you say...Im sure you can be pretty attached to the way it makes you feel; but you cant get 'addicted' like you get addicted to smoking cigarettes.

  • Weed is very much addictive. Weed smokers will tell you it's not because it doesn't follow the same addiction pathway as any other drug but it's still addictive. I know fine well when you DO go a few days without weed you'll get anxious and irritable like every other weed smoker. Stop lying to yourself!

  • lol lying to myself? nahhh kid. so why dont you leave it to the people who actually know what the fuck they're talking about. do you try to tell a cancer patient about there sickness ,too ? good luck with that faggot.

  • I love when people who think they know what they're talking about resort to filling their statements with profanities because they have run out of things to say. I think all you've proved is that you're incapable of being logical...maybe cut down on the dope...kid

  • i cuss all the time, it has nothing to do with this conversation. you don't know a thing about me dont make accusations..

  • I never made any accusations, I told you how the route your taking is making you looks.

  • Making me "looks?"wtf? oh cooool dumbass. i really dont care how things make me look. i am who i am and thats all that i am(: idgaf.

  • You're jumping on a spelling mistake? really? Also, are you quoting popeye or Wheatus? :|

  • i really have no idea what your talking about.

    stop talking to me..

  • @katelynrene weed isn't physically addictive but it you can become addicted to the feeling of weed. its like a sex, there's no chemical produced by sex to make it addictive, but you get addicted to the feeling. i'm a pot head, i think i'm addicted, but it was my choice to smoke, and i think that if i really wanted to i could quit, but i mean why give up a good thing? ^.^

  • @katelynrene Obviously you need to go back to grade school and talk to the drug counselor, because you haven't the faintest idea of what you're talking about.

Or here, let me give you a little more credit. Go back to middle school and learn 7th grade science.

  • @katelynrene Now that I'm done insulting your intelligence, let me see if I can help you expand it. Go pick up basic psychology, chemistry, and biology, and take some time to educate yourself.

  • wtf does science have to do with this.. you guys need to leave me alone. your all so annoying. seirously GET LIVES.

  • Wow, seriously? You don't see how science fits into ADDICTION to a substance? Maybe you really do need to go back to school and talk to a drug counselor. Do your self a favor and read into why coffee and soda are so addicting, then read up on some psychology so you can see how things can be mentally addicting.

Also, the fact that you keep trolling proves that the one who needs a life here is you, considering this only my 3rd time writing anything to you.

  • Unfortunatly anything can be addictive to the mind(mentally)

    Weed is not addictive Physically.

    Drinking soda can be addictive.

    Sex can be VERY addictive.

    ANYTHING can be addictive mentally.

I smoke weed too, so i know for a fact that it CAN be addictive(:

Ive experimented with tons of things.

  • well they're implying that he needs it,like its a drug addictions.

    no.

    you get addicted to coke,heroine,oxy.

    all that shit.

experimented? cool. doesnt mean you know what your talking about.

  • ok so, i just quit back in january, and i was addicted to it, i smoked for 3 years, so fuck you i do know abot it, people do get addicted to the state, and i did.

  • Stop talking about issues around pot,

Its fucking Max Bemis, and regardless of whatever shit hes been through with his mental ilness, or drug addictions hes still a genius. Let him say hes shit.

  • Trolling? everytime i fuckingg log into youtube its like "ONE NEW COMMENT" thats not trolling thats YOU NOT LEAVING ME ALONE. SHUT THE HELLL UP

  • quit coming back to look at the comments then..

  • im not. it always says one new comment. i dont go to this just to see what you write back, i have shit in my inbox every time i log in.

  • your never alone man

  • wow, i just watched this whole interview and before this, i thought i was alone with all my mental shit. i do the music thing, write, sing, etc and im realizing more and more how many people like this struggle with these things. i ALWAYS feel alienated and this interview just made me feel a lot better about myself. go ahead and rate my comment bad because it's cheesy but this helped so much.

  • The only thing wrong with pot is,

People tend to become addicted to it,and just want to fit it in everyday they wakeup,

wich is very sad,Its becomes a must,

    making people very lazy,

    Pot isnt bad,People are.

  • pot itself is not physically addictive. and anything can be mentally addictive.

  • Max♥

  • ow can you not die from pot? itll destroy your brain cell and just mess you up. and why would you even want to smoke pot or do any other drug? its just stupid

  • Amen

  • i LOVE this man!

  • i just listened to max just tell me what my life was like in the past and what i need to do in the future to achieve goals that are noy nessarly being a musican but just being someone who can touch the world and so many people in it. i hope to someday touch half as many people as he has emotionally, mentally, sprituality, and physically. although i don't know all the lyrics to your songs i identify with you more than you would believe max..

  • You have inspired me. Thank you, Max Bemis. I don't get inspiration from other people that I don't know personally a lot, but you and Jason Becker have done that.

  • my heart breaks for you, max

  • i love weeeeeeeeeeed

  • maxs music is doing good too, hes in a new project with saves the day called two tongues

  • And it kicks ass.

  • maxim adam bemis, i love you, please marry me.

  • he's already married xP

  • Brother doing pot behind me... i had to plug in my headphones to listen to this. If he were to die tommorow by anything via pot i would laugh and have a hard stare at my dad who does it too

  • LMAO you cant die from pot.. dumb ass, no one ever has. ever, you cant

  • Yeah you can. Maybe not from smoking it, but just by having it. Things happen and btw i wasnt asking for your pothead opinion. You don't think you can die from it because you havent died from it... Go get a road show...

  • you can only die from pot if you smoke your body weight within something like 2 hours, so while it is improbable, it is possible.

  • That's not true. It's physically impossible for a person to OD smoking pot.

  • @jiarb you CAN OD on pot, but you will pass out before you can smoke that much. You can OD on pretty much anything, its just impossible to get that much of a chemical into your system before your body passes out from the drug or substance.

  • @scottypotty4 In order for a human to consume enough marijuana to be fatal, they would have to consume nearly 40,000 times the amount of THC required to intoxicate them. So theoretically it's possible. But....

  • @jiarb

@jiarb Slightly incorrect. Marijuana can become addictive after prolonged periods of use. Anything that you can get addictive to, you can OD on. As Sarahbearuh19 mentions, however, it is incredibly improbable.

  • @jiarb unless literally being suffocated with smoke. which is a completely different thing.

  • @jiarb not true, inhaling any kind of smoke into your lunges can cause enough congestion to kill you. This is an extreme case, but it is possible.

  • @jiarb could be laced.

  • @jiarb you can OD eating it tho i know from experience. i'll never touch pot again after last hempfest not only did the pot make my tourettes worse it made me feel horrible. i vote to legalize it. but personally ill never touch it again

  • what the hell does this have to do with anything he is talking about?

  • Comment removed

  • @sarahbearuh19 its not possible to do that...? thats like saying you can eat 1,000 pounds of food in 10 minutes without throwing up. do you have any idea how much weed it would take to weigh the same as a person?

  • He is the all around artist. I love him even more for doing this. (and his eyes make me melt too!)

  • wow. what an amazing man.

  • Max is incredibly awesome.

  • He...is awesome...really now...

  • i never knew any of this stuff about max, it really amazes me how fucking strong the dude is. no wonder why hes SO talented.

  • He's really my hero. Not JUST because of his music, but because of what he's totally... I don't know, there's no other way to put it other than "what he's totally survived".

  • agree 1,000%

  • @nutsinyourbedpost if handled the right way any struggles in life make you so much stronger...Max has been through a lot and he uses it to help other people. he is amazing.

  • It takes a real man to come out and admit he has a problem with anything.

    Max I love you man.

  • yeah, i agree with the guy.

people get upset now, when he does get all "pop-y" & stereotype-y.

    like their new cd..

its good, but i like his earlier ones better, BEACUSE he's more "messed-up" in them.

idont know if that makes sense..

but i do know some people agree with me.

still, max bemis will always be the best.

  • COOL... hah.

  • <3.

  • He's caring. He's smart. He's amazing! That's pretty much all there is to it.

  • Max is very intelligent and creative but he isn't only that...he is a good leader. Good leaders speak out for the good of others usually based on their own experiences. They have to because others won't or don't learn from it. Cheers to Max, we do need more like him in this world. Oh and synething757...I think you need to go into rehab, it's a great program and I know you would benefit it...just ask your dad.

  • go comment another form nub

  • I've seen them in concert and they were amazing, so go fuck yourself.

  • I went to a Say Anything concert. It was the first concert I went to ever. It was incredible. You sir, are either an idiot or...actually no, you're just an idiot.

  • Kudos to Max.

  • I think thats really shallow. He's trying to help people who are like him. He went through a lot of crap and he cares enough about the fans that he wants to help them. I respect him a heck of a lot more for speaking out.

  • You're completely wrong. Obviously that "sex drugs and rock and roll" lifestyle DOESN'T WORK for a lot of people and saying that he should be a spokesperson for drugs is ridiculous. he's talking about medical problems and how people can fix them and not feel so alone. its healthy. what you seem to want is not healthy. oh and im NOT one of those people who think im better because i dont drink or smoke. i can just recognize when someone is in danger of harming themself and others

  • You're an idiot and you yourself probably belong at a rehab clinic if you think smoking weed is "cool"

  • He is really awesome because of this.

The world needs more Max Bemis...es.

  • yess if they clone anyone it should be him!

  • i don't think he'd want to be cloned.

  • there can only be one max bemis,

the fact that this man has gone through so many mental issues, faced them, rehabilitated, and come back to make the greatest music of our time is simply amazing.

i just got a summer assignment for an ap language class, and we have to write about one person that has influenced our lives. these words have cemented the fact that maxim bemis has been an inspiration not only to me, but to people everywhere, mental issues or not.

  • I wass going through a tough phase in my life... I got held back in school and I wasn't a very social person... The only friend I had that was in my grade told me to listen to Say Anything. When I heard their music it motivated me to try and become a better person. I owe who I am today to Max Bemis. His music can change lives...

  • it's like he's my clone.

    without the drugs.

    =\

  • why the fuck are these videos separated into 6 parts

  • i love this man

  • role model.

  • i love you max! you are just an amazing man! you are so smart and funny and talented!

    stay awesome!

    ily <3

  • The amount of respect I have for Max is beyond thinkable. This interview has changed my life. He is astronomically amazing and Say Anything produce the most beautiful, creative and engaging music ever.

  • I really wish I could talk to him myself. Seems like an amazing individual.. shook my hand once...

  • shook mine too, and signed 2 vinyl covers for me :D

  • In Defense of The Genre is incredible..just keep listening to it...it will grow in time.

  • You know I think he just sounds that way. He sounds like he's just nervous to be speaking in general. But he does clear his throat a lot. It's kind of cute though.

  • Yeah, he's really speaking his mind, and it's tough, you know?

  • It's an emotional issue for him is all

  • Oh no, I totally get that it's an emotional issue, I wasn't insulting him or anything by asking if he talks strange. I'm judging from the -4 that people thought otherwise. I was just confused.

  • well he's really nervous all the time especially when talking one on one like that, plus he's just rather awkward <3

  • you didnt like 'In Defense of the Genre"? have you listened to the whole thing? its not as pure genius as is a real boy or was a real boy but it is great music. dont listen to the singles, they suck. that goes for most singles.

  • its a concept album, just as is real boy was. i mean its ur opinion, i'm not one of those people who shit on everyone elses opinions on you tube. but i love all of say anythings stuff, but personally i think the new album is the best. yeah is a real boy had a more rock vibe to it which makes it great for live shows but idk, i just feel alot of different emotions can be felt when listening to "in defense of the genre"

  • 'These issues make you cool in your own way' i like that. i never knew max was so messed up! i just thought the songs were really good =D

  • I have so much respect for this man.

    He is amazing.

  • love him.

  • you're amazing Max

  • I have never seen a better or more excedingly fantstic man. This story needs to be heard. How great that he is telling it.

  • max bemis is my hero.
