I'm very much fond of Denton Cooley myself, but he wasn't the one that performed the first blue baby operation. It was Alfred Blalock (hence the Blalock-Taussig shunt) at Johns Hopkins. His first assistant as Donald Longmire and there was only one junior doctor that had the courage to attend the operation. That was Cooley. The rest is history.
