    Optics Ident

  • The night-time had a serenity about it in the days when television still closed down. And even closedowns themselves were serene affairs, this video being a perfect example. I mean, surely twenty to three in the morning is late enough for anyone to be finish watching TV. I'd love to get some kind of ratings as to how many people are watching TV in the wee small hours. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Have had similar thoughts as yourself, just recently...if the likes of ITV were to bring back it's night time service as it was in it's early days, then at least there would be a broad spectrum of not bad quality programming to choose from. Even in my area, up until about the turn of the century, Scottish Television would have endless repeats of it's own archive series Weir's Way, which, on it's own, was worth staying up for and/or time shifting. Closedowns were friendly, and are sorely missed.

  • Very good quality clip of the optic ident you have there - possibly the best quality on youtube since most of them aren't that good.

And the /B/B/C S C O T L A N D title was generated by a laserdisc that was overlayed over the ident footage. Over the 1991 - 1997 years there were many errors when idents would come on with no /B/B/C/ logo at all. This didn't happen so often after '97.

  • This is from the last night of 1995, or the first hours of 1996.
