I enlisted in the Marines back in '94. I have scoliosis but the MEPS center gave me a waiver because the degree of curvature wasn't quite enough to disqualify me, but told me I would be examined regularly.
Six weeks into Basic, they told me that the curvature had increased slightly due to the stress of heavy packs, so they gave me the boot. Still, I am impressed I made it as far as I did. I like to think that if my back hadn't betrayed me, I would have made it.
Lol was brought here by cracked and i feel that all army or marine adds should be like this and show exactly what you will be doing and that is getting your ass kicked every day by the gruesome tasks ahead and make you as hard as steel and ready for anything but most people out there are in no way near the level as any of these men in the commercial so yea it will take alot of work and i do believe that the army is easier to join so whatever just be prepared for hell XD

I'm pretty sure it's required that you pass the ASVAB in order to enlist in the USMC. It's not hard, just some basic English and Math. You also will need at least a high school diploma or GED to join nowadays.
@MrCatwaffles You need to score at least a 50 of the AFQT portion of the ASVAB, the rest fo the test is placement. However the Marines no longer take people with GEDs, you must graduate high school, or show that you are on your way and will graduate with a diploma.
Actually the USMC does take people with GED's. I should know since i have one and am in enlistment. If you have at least 15 college credits it puts you on the same level as someone with an HSD.

I'm planning on going to a college in Florida and join it's NROTC program to be a pilot in the Marines. My father only served for 4 years, but I am proud to have him as my dad. Everyday brings me closer to entering my life, graduating as a citizen, and then graduating.... as a Marine. I know right now I am far from being a Marine, But I'm gonna be one of the most motivated Damned recruits the Marines have ever seen! Thank you to all who serve and have served. @charlessol1 the time in service depends on your contract and mos but a typical active duty contract is a 4 year active duty and 4 year inactive duty to total your 8 year military obligation. you can expect up to thirty days per year for leave to see family and friends, but they key is up to, not the full thirty days you may get less depending on the needs of the Corps.

@11bjerke The Marines existed since 1775 but was founded as The Marine Corps in 1776, when it was officially declared a department of the Navy. You learn this from Bootcamp. In 1775 it was called The Naval Infantry and were trained in Philadelphia.

@charlessol1 the time in service depends on your contract and mos but a typical active duty contract is a 4 year active duty and 4 year inactive duty to total your 8 year military obligation. you can expect up to thirty days per year for leave to see family and friends, but they key is up to, not the full thirty days you may get less depending on the needs of the Corps.

I heard the calling... but I didn't earn the title. Was injured halfway through training, on the rifle range. Sent home with a medical discharge. But at least I wasn't one of those bitches that quit. I went in there with honor, and I left with honor. Those idiot docs said my nerve damage was "permanent", and that I'd never run again. I proved them wrong last week, when I ran a straight mile...
