@Flamorgan @Flamorgan That's not quite correct. "Eily Dear" refers to an alternative version published in 1918 for men to sing. Fred Weatherly was an Englishman who wrote numerous song lyrics from the mid-19th century onwards, his most famous song being perhaps "The Holy City". The Londonderry Air is indeed a traditional Irish song in its own right, though several lyricists have used it for their own words. The version of Danny Boy I used was published in 1913.

@Flamorgan Fred Weatherly wrote "Danny Boy" to a different melody, but later adapted the words to fit the Londonderry Air. This is the version of "Danny Boy" I used, which was published by Boosey in 1913. I know nothing about it being used for 1st World War propaganda; perhaps you could reveal your source?
