Zappa always had great drum sounds, this Album has been in the back of my mind all along, I wish someone would remaster it as it is 16 Db too Quiet against other Digital records now
seen zappa few times in london, tittles and beer tour and i dont wanna get drafted tour brill. got sent home from work next day for wearing my Titties and Beer tee shirt felt good though as i was working in the city of london haha. just finished reading Pauline Butchers book about her time with Frank and what an amazing book, i think her and frank were the only ones with their heads on straight in hollywood in them daze lol read it folks and enjoy
@jmat412 correct.........Frank was rehearsing the Ikettes on the "Im ridin a small tiny horse, his name is "Mighty Little" bit from the song "montana".....which is a very difficult piece of music , by the way, and they finally got it right, and were very excited with their achievement, when Ike Turner came into the control room, and was heard to mutter ..." What the hell is THIS shit"................
@imajeepster i went to see motorhead/megadeth just last week...but i admit i'd feel a bit out of place at "Foster the People". I still wish i was 23 anyways!
@chall0231 - Zappa played ALL lead guitars, and all guitar parts on some albums, up until the very early 80's when Steve Vai (yes that Steve Vai) was employed as "stunt guitarist" and joined in the lead guitar effort for a few albums. Zappa's early-mid 70s solos are some of the best you'll ever hear.
My mother had this record - I used to sit on the floor of the living room as a kid and just pour over the art on the cover while listening to it. Such excellent times, I was so lucky to grow up listening to amazing music.
thanks for this! AWESOME stuff! I got to see him in Detroit ... in ... late 70's (?) when i was but a kid (about 10?)and still had my youth and happiness!
If you don't get Frank Zappa, you don't get Frank Zappa. It doesn't mean you are stupid, it doesn't mean you have a shitty taste in music. It just means it isn't your thing.
But rest assured, the man deserves every bit of praise he has ever gotten.
Thanks for more FZ on YouTube!!! Frank truly helped me make it through high school in Mormon Mecca Mesa, AZ!!! If it wasn't for FZ I'd be one of the the proto-typical Top-40 music listeners! Due to his creativity I escaped with my own identity and musical taste!
@fadethetrade If I were to venture a guess he probably means "innocent", or "unwordly", or "virginal" All I know is that most chicks at the time thought that lyric was pretty funny
I play the trombone. When I was 18 I finally started memorizing certain melodies and riffs. Dirty Love was one of the first. Red Baron by Billy Cohbam was also in that first group of tunes.
I love Zappa. I love Zappa. I love Zappa.
I have an uncle who is my father's youngest brother. When I was around that same age, mentioned above, I found out that he was going out to see see Zappa when he was 16, 17, 18.....
I helped solidfy the mystery and love that IS Frank Zappa!!
@Spule4 they were probably looking for more 'cereal'
and for the other questions, Tina and the Ikettes did the backing vocals on this track as well as most of the album. Tina says she still has a check signed by Frank for the gig!
@punk137ya I heard that Ike Turner moved into a basement apartment so he could see what it's like to throw a woman UP a flight of stairs for a change.
I read that Tina Turner is an uncredited background singer on this song- and that Ike turner dismissed the song Montana as shit during the same recording session
Yah, of course, why didn't I get that - the fact that it's a toy poodle indicates Zappa is deriding the self-entitled conservative neurotic wealthy class -- I've seen this theme in Zap comix: the young hippies would take society back to native good-hearted humane behavior, and the older generation would be chagrined & slink away - only problem is, they didn't listen to Zappa, so they didn't get the message - but: more important, why let a poodle do it when so many guys would :)
Thanks for putting this on YouTube. There are only two other "Dirty Love" videos out there. One had horrible audio quality and the other had a creepy video of a writhing moth caught on flypaper.
