This is the most wonderful uplifting soulful tender spiritual multi-layered multi-faceted heavenly and just plain ass-kicking profound music that I have ever heard from a group of human beings. They may just be men but what a heavenly sound and message. Amen.
These Universalists, EARTH , WIND, FIRE, made their mark, that is still MONUMENTAL in the BIG SCHEME OF THINGS., .....AFFECTIONATELY NON COMPROMISABLE.
this really is the most uplifting music that has been created... great band, great message, great sound.. there is no other band that puts me a good mood like EWF.....
It's incredible that since I've been enlightened to the existence of the "Illuminati" and it's long history(according to conspiracy theorists and other sources)that I see the symbolism in many many artists albums and pictures. It's crazy!Look just above the Kings crown. The upside down pyramid with the EYE,also the Pharaoh just behind the King or Prince, which establishes the beginning of "secret societies". As a matter of fact,if you look at the majority of EW&F art work and tell me what u SEE!
@Soulman785 and Jerry Hey and the guys wrote and played some great horn arrangements togheter...in fact Jerry Hey and the guys plays on most of the good records from the 70s. 80s and 90s
@SjamanFunk Yes Jerry and the guys did, I know he did a lot of stuff with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones and Rod Temperton on MJ's solo stuff especially "Off The Wall"'; " Thriller" & "Bad".
@Soulman785 I chatted with Jerry Hey for an hour a few years ago..what a humble guy...says is was just about beeing at the right place at the right time..not interested in fame at all. and he didnt get much money for all his hard work..500 dollars pr charts..later years he have worked in the film industry.more money there.
@SjamanFunk Wow, that's great that you got a chance to chat with him! He is truly a legend and a brilliant composer and player. They don't make them like Mr Hey anymore, he came from a time when making and recording music was from the heart and you weren't always out to just make a buck.
@Soulman785 yeah it was great...he was realy cool...his main goal is total perfection...so he don want to play live...so he is a p100% Perfectionist. So sad he seldom play live...but we have all his recorded art :)
@Soulman785 So true..Music from the heart...You cant fake good music...not possible. I think all of our heros did just that. made music from the heart,.. even MJ and Q onthe Thriller album. They set out to make the best and the most selling album in the world but they never stop making music from the heart..
one of the best disco albums of earth, wind and fire. some say it can't be defined, others say it's not disco, but i say that this album is disco combined with percussion and falseto singing
Let me remind everyone that EWF first hit was in the early 70's .Remember Evil, Keep your head to the sky. Please do your homework before making statements like EWF was the best group in the 80's.I love music and several other bands. But until i pulled up this site I trully forgot how brilliant Maurice and (The Fire) really were. For real no band in modern time can touch their craftmanship with a ten foot pole.
LOVE this song! Horn kick ass! and the Vocal Harmony, Man I think in the next Life IM going to ask GOD if I can be in the Horn Section of this GREAT Band!
When I hear this song I imagine myself being "transported" to the tropical island of "Coco Cubana" on a fancy cruise ship. I imagine sitting in a spa, with beautiful women and close friends. I imagine sipping on pinacoladas and midori on ice, surrounded by the spectacle of Earth Wind and Fire on stage singing this song. Being served another tantalizing tropical cocktail of peaches and mango doused in Kahlua liquor, meanwhile a pretty waitresses gives me a massage as I drift my mind away.
I went into the record store every day for a month waiting for this double album "Faces" to come out...I loved it but it didn't receive the critical acclaim it deserved. Fantastic album full of groove, love, and humanity...with a lil' bit of funk and real strings & horns...magic!!! My favorite band of all time.
@geedub43 I have to agree with you. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and only one radio station played songs from this album. This was an underrated album. PS: I forgot that it came as a double album. Mine was stolen, but I found the CD. But is it not the same as those double albums.
I have this box. It is the base of my shrine to these beings from planet EWF which is where Maurice went back for a while. Come back, Maurice, we need more of your beautiful music.
I like to call it 'hghway music.' because it went so well with everything; parties, weddings, sporting events, relaxing and especially traveling. The great ones music always seem to transcend time...
Does anyone do it like this anymore? I am always fascinated when I look at the last hit that comes in for a song, thinking "is anybody else thinking about this song?" Looks like YES!! I haven't heard this song in 30 years...and I"m still in my 30's. I just miss the good music of my youth. Thanks so much for posting this song!
Yes it was a beautiful song. I was a EWF fan all throughout the 70s but the world was starting to get into hip hop in 1980 (Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash and the Sugar Hill Gang) and EWF was beginning to sound dated, at least to my 16-year-old self. Now when I listen to EWF I realize how truly great they were ...it's rare you find a band that can really play instruments (The Roots anyone?!)
I have been blessed to see EWF live seven times. You do not have to make negative music to be successful. Every album and song they have made has always been a positive song. Take that hip hoppers and rappers.
I have been blessed to see EWF live seven times. You do not have to make negative music to be successful. Every album and song they have made has always been a positive song. Take that to the buying hip hoppers and rappers.
this why we must scurry and harvest this treasure before it may be too late. we will then pass it down to our children.. and our grandchildren and all those who have an independent ear to what is meaningful in their lives not allowing external, negatives forces to penetrate the good.
This is a classic and I am glad to have seen the Mighty Mighty EWF in concert twice in my life when they were big! Back in 1981 for New Years Eve in Oakland. Also at the Cow Palace. When you walked on the ground floor during the concert in the General Admission area and if you put your foot up you can feel the sound waves going through your feet! Now that is power! I love EWF long live EWF!
Wow!!! what a groove! it makes you move after the first few notes...i'm a musician
myself and i know there is still music with quality in our days...just hard to get it
because the big labels don't care about quality anymore...today you just take a few samples and that's it. but the sad thing is.....people buy this shit! and the good thing is...we still have EWF!
I wonder if music will ever return back to it roots and stop this stuff they're producing now. This is PURE MUSIC how can you stray from this. I will stick with the old school music when it was about love and pain and heartaches not booty shakin, cars, wannabe Men saggin, women with hardly no clothes. Sorry I got carried away, it just makes me upset the way music has gone now days
I agree witih you to some degree....but the same things prevalent today were taking place then too...just behind closed doors. Homosexuality was rampant in music, drugs, promiscuous music artists, early deaths, etc. If you really think about it, it's just media hadn't cashed in on the woes of society like they do now. So today, it's glamorized. but the music itself was better...I agree.
By far one of their best albums(TWO LPS) that the masses missed. But we didn't. We are blessed to be able to connect with their message. Spread the love.
great song...verdine is killin' that bass line.....too bad this didn't get much airplay when it first came out.....it only peaked around #44 on the pop charts.....
When music is as great as this, it stands the test of time...My son is in his high school band (shout out to St. Aug's Marching 100's) and they played this song last Mardi Gras...it was awesome!!
I was 3 years old in 1980. I remember this song at that age. They say that most adults remember their earliest childhood between the ages of 2 and 5, and when I was these ages, Earth, Wind, and Fire was (and still is) on fire. I may not be old enough to go to the club in the late 70s and early 80s. I may be way too young to buy the music or go to their concerts, but at least I was alive when Earth, Wind, and Fire was hot!
yeah you're fully right, i always loved ewf, still do , but " they sold their soul to the illuminati. and when you turn you're back against them you die!!! just michael jackson, tupac, bob marley etc etc. peace to everyone.
The year was "1980," and the school bus was racially charged and segregated. Only this time, the whites sat in the back of the bus. There were no set rules, you just did it, that is, if you knew what was good for you from both sides. And in order to satisfy all, our bus driver switched radio stations each day from R&B, to White Pop music. Had it not been for the R&B station "OK 100" in D.C., I would have never discovered the greatness within Earth Wind And Fire's song, "And love goes on."
@cawleym1 - Earth Wind & Fire were visitors brought here to enlighten and transcend. They on a high plane of awareness. No one today is close in the music biz.
My best friend and I would listen to this song! His mother came in the room and said Why don't they make music like this anymore? What an incredible group!!
What a tune! I just have to hear that start of that brass intro and I can't stop grinning every time! Got hold of a really scratched copy of the second LP of this album in a junk shop when I was about 13. Fifteen years later and I've never tired of it, the whole album is fantastic (have the CD now). Thank God for these guys, this music is so full of love
I have always loved Earth Wind and Fire I grew up with them....Moms put me on with them! RIP Mother....And BTW, this is my song for my best friend who I am in love with and she knows but I am married and we cant take it to that level.... (sad face)
Faces is probably their best album technically - the whole sound got to a peak they could never top afterwards. The whole MW project got to this peak. There's no obvious single, but as a whole, can't beat this sound... Thank you EWF! And thanks for posting.
DAMN!!! will we EVER get this kind of creativity and originality in music again? I mean all we got today is some sub-par singers who use samples out tha ass and wish that they had as much talent in their whole body that EWF had in their pinky.
@Shaolin913 caint nooooobody do it like... the Earth the Wind and the Fire... well... unless Water shows up soon enough... and they all sing together again...
This is the most wonderful uplifting soulful tender spiritual multi-layered multi-faceted heavenly and just plain ass-kicking profound music that I have ever heard from a group of human beings. They may just be men but what a heavenly sound and message. Amen.

Original album Faces in 1980.
One of their most versatile album and it's all about crossovers
in this album but you can called it R&B most of the times.
But it's not clearly as R&B they just experimeting with the
new sound and style for 80s.

I may not be old enough to go to the club in the late 70s and early 80s. I may be way too young to buy the music or go to their concerts, but at least I was alive when Earth, Wind, and Fire was hot!

yeah you're fully right, i always loved ewf, still do , but " they sold their soul to the illuminati. and when you turn you're back against them you die!!! just michael jackson, tupac, bob marley etc etc. peace to everyone.
omi53 2 years ago
Now, you don't believe that the beautiful content of EWF songs are the idea or product of the illuminati do you?

@ghanboy
great point!
definitely not! nothing like today and this slezebag tik tok crap.
love peace joy and true illumination was the goal.

EWF: more rated as a disco band than funk, undeservedly so.
Timeless (if you like this kind of music .:-)

probably one of the best dance records ever made...what a band, pure genius!

The way the music started from the beginning I thought that the Doobie Brothers came out with a new song.
But that feeling lasted only for a moment back in early 1981.(when I first heard this gem from EW&F).
