  • Gosh I love her accent! But I don't entirely understand the song? I mean, I can tell it's about an affair but I don't really understand the jokes. (Sorry; I'm just a dumb American. ^^; But I'd love to learn!)

  • @MizCactus the couple has to leave their home, but the wife saved money every time they had sex and she bought cottages with that money. As they got older they had less sex > less money, so it took "all the twenty years" to get the last cottage. The husband didn't know she was saving money, he had an affair and no interest in having sex with his wife. If he'd knew that she was saving he wouldn't have had an affair, more sex with his wife, leading to more money to buy the "Dog and Gun"

  • @m92lte as well... the woman knew her husband was having an affair so she did the same with the milkman, she saved money when she'd sex with the milkman and so she was able to buy him the "Dog and Gun" instead of buying it for her husband... that's how I understand it, but I'm not quite sure either ;)

  • @m92lte What is the Dog and Gun? Is it a place?

  • @MizCactus Its the local pub

  • @m92lte The joke isn't just that the wife was shagging the milkman, it's that both the couple were having far more sex with other people than with each other. The Dog and Gun would have been very expensive to buy, so it would have needed a *lot* more sex. The wife was clearly having a huge amount of sex with the milkman, and the husband was having just as much, because as he said, if he "hadn't played away" (hadn't been shagging other women), that amount of sex would have paid for the pub.

  • @dunebasher1971 yup, that's how I understood it too. It's just that I'm German and not that good at expressing myself in English ;)

  • @m92lte Thank you very much; I appreciate it! Gosh this song amuses me. :)

  • It's just yorkshire. We all have it =]

  • What accent? I come from less than 20 miles from where she was born. But honestly even she has a slight accent to me, because she's from Penistone which is like the posh/rural area of Barnsley an Barnsley people have the proper Yorkshire accent. But then my mum's family are from Barnsely so I don't notice that either.
