It would be interesting to do a comparison today of the current shape golf and the peugeot 308.
I bet the outcome would be the opposite. Peugeot have totally forgotten how to make a car drive well, while VW have got back some of their old sharpness. Looking at that golf on the corners, they probably needed to!!
My near standard GTi6 does 0-60 in 6.8 and was bhp tested in jan this year at 166bhp. It's only got 3 engine mods inc' a K&N and NGK plugs with Powerflow pipe.

Nah this is wrong, the pug isn't the lightest, and yes it has more bhp but the 0-60 run it is the slowest! also the Fiat he is talking about has 154hp, not 147hp as he stated, the Bravo that has 147hp is the 16V version not the 20V! There must have been some mods to these,
Fiat 2.0 20V HGT (154bhp) 3d 7.7 s 132 mph 154 bhp 1190 kg
VW 1.8 T GTI 3d 8.2 s 134 mph 150 bhp 1238 kg
Pug 2.0 16V GTi-6 3d 8.5 s 135 mph 167 bhp 1215 kg.
My first was a grey (colour code MOTH) 306 2.0 XSi Phase 1 on a 1996 plate, and I prefer the more edgy styling to the later revisions. The handling was insane and the feedback through the steering wheel was constant. I had TSW Blade alloys on 195/50/15 tyres which looked great. Sadly this car rotated on black ice and hit a wall........R.I.P. Pug.
Actually the published 0-60 figures for the GTI6 and Rallye are wrong. Most of the people I know in the GTI6 owners club have clocked 0-60 times between 6.7 and 7.0 seconds.
the 306 GTI-6 times is wrong - its around 7.7 secs.. but the Rallye - raw version of the Gti-6 takes 6.9 secs to 60mph offically - i have a stripped Rallye, i've took it to 60 in 6.6 sec :)
i have a pug and this is correct i love dring it and wen your ready for that flick in the corner thers nothing better now tho . ive gone the turbo route 3.2 v6 turbo. and yes it fits!!"" 18.00mmm each side arches rolled and running on sixteens lol
i just brought an 94 306 roland garros and its only got a 1.6 8valve beast lol but it handles superb, steering is a little heavy but it does have power steering, i love it, havnt given it any flick yet but its alot better handling than the rover 200 i just scrapped. lovin it, go pug power!
Well I am 6'1" tall with long legs, so yes my knees are higher than they should be but apart from this, the position is perfect. Out of all the cars I have owned, this is actually a decent long journey car for a hatchback.
The 206/207 are another matter, with cramped pedals and an off-set driving position with the wheel to the left of the pedals. HORRID!
I own a peugeot 306 GTI-6 and it sure is fun to drive. people don't expect the accelleration from this car, so at trafficlights you can really surprise them.
Ive raced a 1.8 gti golf same model as in this vid, it had a remap, roughly 175-180bhp, and it was slightly faster than my pug. So i think the 210bhp golf would win.
look how many golf's still kicking about! peugoets drop to bits, fiats fall to bits, remap a 1.8 20v t to 210 bhp and you got a proper gti that lasts. lol
So what. Any fucking plonker can get his car remapped. Fact of the matter is Gti-6's are faster, better-looking and more entertaining than a Top-heavy looking shitbox that you call a proper gti.LMFAO.
And also If you take your engine to richard longman to work his magic to 285 bhp, coupled to a sadev six speed sequential gearbox, with flat shift and launch control , stuck in a 306 maxi bodyshell with 14 inch discs yes 14 inch with 6 pot AP racing calipers you get a fire breathing 306 oh yeah and it weighs 900kg that will burn the paint of any vw golf... good cars that they are . checkout youtube rockingham stages 2007
I bought my second 306 the other day and while I was paying for it etc, there were four different people getting into mine to try it out. They later came in asking about buying it but too late of course! I suggested they could go for the Golf 2.0 GTi that was also on the forecourt, but they were not interested one bit. Nuff said!
I think the handling is supreme on the 306 but it does need decent low profile tyres for best results, and I think the best balance is 195/50/15
I absolutely love this video! But I know of something else that everyone would love. It is kinda creepy, because it actually works, but awesome. I found a way to figure out your crush. Try it for yourself at crush.wantsDOTit(replace DOT with .) before you say it's impossible.

Ever driven one? I'll agree the lower models without seat hieght adjustments can be "interesting" but the Gti/XSi is spot on.
