I don't hate Gasol, I will simply admit that he is not and never will be as good as Kevin Garnett. Last time you checked, you must have been wrong, they both have one ring each.
gasol better than KG? wow lol has gasol ever been the NBA MVP.....has he ever averaged 25 points and 15 rebounds and 3 blocks in one season....nope and he never will.
does luc longley have more nba rings than gasol? just a question. gasol owes his rings to Kobe. KG led the Celtics to their championship. Don't let Pierce's finals MVP fool you because KG finished 4th in MVP voting that year (regular season) and won the DPOY. Pierce did better in the finals because he was matched up vs guys like Radmanovic and had shooters in the backcourt to open up the D.
call me when Gasol comes anywhere near an MVP trophy or DPOY, kthnx.
@SolidSnakeRules Why such hate over Gasol? Whether he's better than KG or not doesn't matter because they're both WINNERS in the end. There were many great NBA players who never won the NBA title, or won while in their prime. Drop this OWE Bullshit, because it's a TEAM game. Neither would've reached the top w/o having high caliber teammates. Both won their rings being IMPACT players (doesn't matter who's No.1, 2, or 3), and NOT cheerleading bench scrubs.
@SolidSnakeRules KOBE OWES his rings to gasol. Before gasol, the lakers didnt pass first round in 2006 and 2007.Gasol was a huge improvement to the lakers.
@LittleFundamental Dirk is DEFINITELY not better than Gasol. The only category he can beat Gasol in is scoring and Gasol has Kobe on his team. Gasol is a much better all around player.
@KingWithoutaCause Right Right, Dirk's Finals MVP puts an end to such debates. Talk to me again when Gasol gets his own Finals MVP. Gasol has 2 NBA rings, sure, I respect him, and he's NOT soft as most idiots think of him. But, Dirk getting his NBA ring and Finals MVP puts him in a different and higher category.
@Francozilla How? That makes absolutely no sense. So what you're saying is Wade is better than LeBron because he has a Finals MVP? Please shut up. You have no real argument, you just use irrelevant things.
@KingWithoutaCause LOL now you're bringing in Wade & LeBron. Queen James doesn't have a ring yet, he'll get his though in about a year or two though. Wade's Finals MVP was more like a GIFT, considering how "marvelous" the officiating was in 2006, one of the "best" ever after 2002, and 2007. Getting to Dirk vs. Pau, Nowitzki's ability to shoot from anywhere, and better ball handling skills puts him over Gasol anytime. Defensively, they're about dead even. So...
@Francozilla How about this since you like to make claims with no proof. I'll give the the ACTUAL statistics of the 2010-2011 NBA regular season. 1. Gasol 2. Dirk
1. 18.8 PPG 10.2 RPG 3.3 APG 1.6 BPG 1.7 TO .823 FT% .529 FG% .333 3PT%
2. 23.0 PPG 7.0 RPG 2.6 APG 0.6 BPG 1.9 TO .892 FT% .517 FG% .393 3PT%
Gasol beats Nowitzki in EVERYTHING but shooting. These are facts. He's a better rebounder, better passer, better defender, less turnovers and more efficient from the field.
@KingWithoutaCause Y'know what, I'm quite wrong about you, and got of the wrong foot. It' nice to see an ardent Gasol supporter, not after his recent playoff demise and getting lynched by BANDWAGON Laker fans, calls to have him traded for Howard or Paul. How they forget he was so intrumental in their 2 NBA rings (in 3 straignt finals). I've always respected Gasol (one of my favorites), and I see no shame in seeing him lose to an eventual Finals MVP in Nowitzki.
@Francozilla Nowitzki is a great player but the reason he won Finals MVP is because who else was going to win it? The other best player was Jason Kidd or Terry. They sure weren't going to win it.
@KingWithoutaCause Every category except scoring? C'mon, Dirk has way more STEALS than Gasol, more 3-pointers, more FT's, better FT%, more FG's (Gasol better FG%), more rebounds (Gasol better rebound average), and just about EVEN in assists (career 2.7 vs. 3.2 in regular & playoffs). It's BLOCKS (1.0 vs. 1.7-9) where Gasol only has clear advantage. Dirk is more all-round than you think, he actually has 2 TRIPLE DOUBLES in his career, just one less than Gasol (3 for him).
@Francozilla He's had less triple-doubles than Gasol but he's been in the league longer. That's weird. Like i said. You CANNOT COUNT TOTAL. Because Dirk has been in longer than Gasol the only way to accurately compare is averages. So look up Dirk and Gasols career averages. Post them in the next comment and compare each category. :)
@Francozilla But this is a team effort. Too bad we aren't talking about HEAD TO HEAD. We are talking about who is the better player throughout the season meaning whomever they may play. You continue to try to snoop around the career stats. Lol. Bringing irrelevant nonsense into the conversation. Lets say if every-time. LeBron plays against the Grizzlies and he performs bad does that mean Rudy Gay is better? No it doesn't. Soo....Pau>>>>>Dirk
@KingWithoutaCause It's not irrelevant it's a fact. Dirk has been about 66% of the time the better player. I still like Gasol, and I'm still astonished to see an ardent Gasol supporter, not after the rough time he's had with the media, critics, and fans just because of one lousy post season. He's still a top 3-5 big man, with Dirk taking the best big man title at the moment. Gasol's had his time, but it's now Dirk's time. It's of course a team, but from a individual standpoint.. Dirk >>>Pau.
@Francozilla But thing I don't think you are understanding is that it's a team thing. You can't compare Gasols stats ONLY WHEN he plays the Mavs. That doesn't mean Nowitzki was better half the time Nowitzki is not even guarding him. LeBron use to struggle when he played the Nuggets does that mean Carmelo is better no. Just look at the statistics that mater career average and tell me who is better. I understand you like Dirk but don't let it make you blind to the facts.
@KingWithoutaCause Career stat comparison: Points - Dirk Rebounds - Dirk (playoffs) Gasol (regular) Assists - Gasol Steals - Dirk Blocks - Gasol FGs - Dirk FG% - Gasol 3pts - Dirk 3pt% - Dirk FTs - Dirk FT% - Dirk Of course it's a team game, that what matters most. Individually, Dirk is more accomplished: 2002 Worlds MVP, 2005 Eurobasket MVP, 2006 3pt Champion, 2007 NBA MVP, 2011 Finals MVP, 10 NBA All Stars, and 11 All NBA selections. 2011 NBA ring is his BEST team title.
@Francozilla You shouldn't count 3PT or FT because they don't really matter for a big man. Gasol also has many accomplishments. Which I really don't see necessary to state. I only count NBA trophies and 3PT trophy doesn't count considering Gasol is a real big man and doesn't shoot 3s. He was on the Lakers so of course he wouldn't win MVP with Kobe on his team. Nowitzki has been in the league longer than Gasol and Gasol has been UNDERRATED forever. Even when he won rookie of the year.
@Francozilla Like i said before we aren't counting 3PTs because Gasol doesn't shoot them. He is a REAL BIGMAN. I'm suprised you also didn't count FG% lol. Scoring is only because Nowitzki is the teams first scoring option while Gasol has Kobe. FT really don't matter either seeing how many big man succeed without them. (Shaq, Dwight, Jefferson, and so on.) So if we look at it it's really.
@KingWithoutaCause OK have it your way, I've stated more than enough my case for Dirk & Gasol. I like to look at the OVERALL statistical picture, and considering both play the PF position, Dirk has the overall statistical edge (especially in Playoffs and Head 2 Heads), simply the better shooter, clutch player. Gasol though (for the last time) the better rebounder, passer, shot blocker, and yes, FG%. Both are a great player and great CHAMPIONS. I'm simply happy for both dudes.
@Francozilla Me too. I simply don't appreciate when people pretty much degrade Pau Gasol and say someone whose had a good year are better. Yes I think Dirk is a great player if he isn't better than Gasol than he's 2nd or 3rd at the PF position. Personally this isn't my opinion. Many ESPN commentators will tell you the SAME thing. Not that Dirk isn't good. Gasol is just the more ideal big man. Hell Gasol is rated higher in the video game NBA 2K11. Lol.
@KingWithoutaCause Larry Nance was a very shooter also for his height (6'9), as was Alex English (6'9), and Magic Johnson becamse quite a good shooter late in his career. Vlade Divac also had a competent perimeter game. Sabonis displayed some gilmpse of what he could've been had he not been injury prone and came to the NBA much earlier. Lastly, Yao Ming was a really good shooter for his 7'6 frame. Stojakovic could shoot, but didn't play up to his height (6'10). You're man Gasol could also shoot
@KingWithoutaCause Lastly, Dirk has way MORE clutch plays, GameWinners, 40-point, 50-point games than Gasol will ever have. Historically, Dirk has outplayed Gasol in their head to head meetings.
@Francozilla Sure he has. Gasol owns Dirk in EVERY statistic but scoring. The only thing that you can actually PROVE that Dirk does better than Gasol is scoring Gasol beats him in everything else. These are facts. What you are saying is just an opinion due to the fact you are not an reliable source and have yet to provide any proof of your claim. That's like me saying Josh Smith is more athletic than LeBron. I can't just say it without any proof.
@KingWithoutaCause Statistically, Dirk is more accomplished (22,297 points, 7,958 FGs, 5,679 FT, 1,197 3pts, 8,315 rebs, 884 steals, 87.7% FT), while blocks (1,243) is the ONLY stat Gasol is better in. Accomplishment wise, Gasol has the edge (2 NBA rings, Olypmpic Silver, Worlds Gold & MVP, Eurobasket Gold & MVP). Dirk has 10 All-Stars, while Gasol has 4 All-Stars. I'd still say that getting his NBA ring & Finals MVP just vaulated Dirk over Gasol tenfold. Dirk ouplayed Gasol in 2006 and 2011.
@Francozilla You do realize that accomplishments such as trophy wise doesn't make a player better right? We are talking about INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE AND STATS. You continue to bring up irrelevant. Things go look at their career stats. That's what really matters it shows you what they do on a daily bassists and how much they produce in a game. Gasol owns Nowitzki in every category but scoring.
As much as I like Gasol, Nowitzki is the MORE accomplished player. I'll believe it more if Gasol manages to reach 20,000 points (13,733 points at present). Dirk is also a beast in the post season (3,214 career playoff points w/ averages of 25.9 points & 10.4 rebs). So...
@Francozilla So what you're saying is if a player accomplished more over a career they are better than a player that is YOUNGER THAN THEM. Nowitzki has been in the league 3 YEARS LONGER. So you can't compare totals. You can't only compare averages.
Pau-18.8 PPG 10.2 RPG 3.3 APG 1.6 BPG 1.7 TO .823 FT% .529 FG% .333 3PT%
Dirk- 23.0 PPG 7.0 RPG 2.6 APG 0.6 BPG 1.9 TO .892 FT% .517 FG% .393 3PT%
Look at these CAREER AVERAGES and tell me who is better?
@KingWithoutaCause In the playoffs, Dirk has a better rebounding average (10.4 vs. 9.6) than Gasol, better in steals (same in regular season), as stated eariier assists are about even (2.7 vs. 3.2) also. Blocks (1.0 vs 1.9) again are Gasol's only clear edge. Dirk's 3-point and FT stats are of the charts in the playoffs, no contest there. Gasols FG% are better (52.2-7% regular & playoffs). You're only brining up their 2010-11 stats, these are their REAL career stats... continued.
@Francozilla No. You can't count the playoff games do to the fact that there are much less compared to regular season which are 82 games. Pau is a better rebounder, passer, defender, FG%, the only thing Dirk beats Pau at is 3PT% and FT which don't matter for big men. That stats don't lie. You continue to bring up irrelevant. How about this before you say anything else. Look up Pau and Dirks career stats post them next to each other and compare on the next comment.
@Francozilla Like I said before. We aren't counting playoffs stats because they don't play enough games for them to actually average out. Regular season is 82 games which really shows a players endurance and what they average throughout a season. As you can tell. Gasol is a better rebounder, passer, shot-blocker, higher FG% and just a much better all around BIG MAN. Dirk has numbers more like a bad guard. He's not a real and dominant big man like Pau.
@KingWithoutaCause Team wise, Gasol is more accomplished: 2006 Worlds Gold, 2008 Olympic silver, 2009 Eurobasket Gold, and 2009 & 2010 NBA rings. He's also gained MVP's in 2006 Worlds and 2009 Eurbasket, to go with his 2002 NBA ROY award. Again, Dirk has the edge in Points, Rebounds (playoff), Steals, 3pts, 3pt% FTs, and FT%. Gasol's edge is Rebounds (regular), Assists, Blocks, and FG%. Either way you look it, that's enough proof Dirk OWNS more statistical categories than Gasol.
@Francozilla You never presented ANY PROOF. You just ignore my request and put things that I already stated. PLAYOFFS DO NOT COUNT. They are a short period of games and do not show a players REAL average like the regular season. How about this list Gasol's career averages next to Dirk's and compare them.(Except 3PT% because Gasol is a real big man he does not shoot 3s). Just do that a compare each category. Don't say anything else simply get career averages and compare stats.
@KingWithoutaCause You nuts? 3pts and FTs count since both play the PF position. Dirk just has more range, while Gasol is better in the low post. To make it clear for you, Gasol is the better rebounder, passer, and shot blocker, Dirk the better snatcher, shooter. But, the difference in Gasol's betters is not that much (except in blocks). While Dirk's betters (FTs, 3pts, Steals) are miles apart. Playoffs and Head 2 Heads count, bud. That's where Dirk clearly has the edge.
@Francozilla So I have a question would you rather take Ersan Ilyasova or would you rather take Blake Griffin on your team? They don't matter there are many of big man who couldn't shoot either 3PT or FT. Like Dwight Howard, Shaquille O'neal, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabar., Hakeem Olajuwan, do I have to continue? That's not a big mans job. Gasol is a true big man. He gives rebounds, effecient from the field, shotblocking, and inside and low post scoring. cont.
@KingWithoutaCause It's a big advantage if your Big is a good shooter and FT shooter, to go along with getting rebounds, ans shot blocking. Dirk best fits that description, he can rebound and block shots when on a role, to go with his limitless shooting range. Gasol is a good FT shooter, better rebounder, shotblocker, and passer. But, Dirk is better in the CLUTCH, in the same catergory as Garnett, Duncan, Jabbar. Howard is a lousy FT shooter and chokes in the clutch. FT's alone matter.
@Francozilla Dirk cannot rebound and cannot block shots. Sorry to tell you. He is probably one of the WORST 7 Ft. rebounders. Gerald Wallace is a better rebounder than Dirk and he's a Small Forward who is 6'8. Try and name some dominant shooting big man(Power forwards and Centers) FTs do NOT matter. So you're saying Shaq was not one of the most dominant players of all-time? Because he is a horrible freethrow shooter. Shit Rondo is a guard he can't shoot freethrows and still a beast,.
@KingWithoutaCause Of there are (or were) dominant players can dominate by being great defenders or being able to score through sheer will, brute force, talent, or athleticism. Kidd, Johnson, Bird, Shaq, Chamerlain Stockton, etc. are just some of those uncanny players, do whatever it takes to win. Dirk and Gasol have proven enough they too belong in such uncanny groups.
@KingWithoutaCause Dominant shooting big men? Well, there was Bob McAdoo, Patrick Ewing, Olajuwon, Dan Issel, Dave Cowens, Karl Malone, Moses Malone, Jerry Lucas, Jabbar, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Elvin Hayes, Jack Sikma, Robert Parish, BIll Laimbeer. Everyone mentioned was about 6'9 or taller. Everyone mentioned could shoot from as far as 20 feet, with Bird & Laimbeer having 3-point range. Dirk took the shooting big man to the next level. Rik Smits was another solid shooting big man.
@Francozilla You do realize that big man shooter means 3 pointers right? Karl Malone, Moses Malone, Olajuwon, Ewing, Jabbar, McHalle, Parish do not belong on this list. You are being much to LENIENT on the word shoot. I mean dominant big man that shoot like a Dirk, Okur, or Peja. That kind of big men. Half the guys you named don't even have that many career 3 pointers. Sorry to tell you.
@KingWithoutaCause Andrea Bragnani, Kevin Love, Danilo Gallinari, Detlef Schermpf, Toni Kukoc, Arvydas Sabonis, Rasheed Wallace, Dirk Nowitzki, Peja Stojakovic, Memo Okur, Hedo Turkoglu, Cliff Robinson, Keith Van Horn, Troy Murphy, Bill Laimbeer, and Jack Sikma. Skima made 3-pointers in his last 2 seasons, Laimbeer was quit uncanny for his era, and Sabonis, if not for his injuries could've taken it to the next level prior to Dirk's arrival.
@Francozilla The only dominant player you just mentioned was Rasheed, and MAYBE Kevin Love. Now it's my term to name some REAL BIG MEN dominated such as Shaquille O'Neal, Dwight Howard, Hakeem Olajuwon, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Pau Gasol, Blake Griffin, Amare Stoudemire, Yao MIng, and I could go on for days. You can compare ANY of these bigman to yours and they DOMINATE. They are the TRUE BIG MEN of the NBA. They have Points, Rebounds, and Blocks.
@KingWithoutaCause With Shaq and Yao retiring, the NBA is now severely short of TRUE big men. The Gasol Brothers (Marc & Pau), Brook Lopez, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, Chris Kaman, Andrew Bogut,
LaMarcus Aldridge seem to be the only remaining true big men out there. Al Horford is undersized, but quite solid, while Joakim Noah is quite solid himself, very scrappy player. There's also Amare and Boozer, both really good players, but nothing special.
@Francozilla Wow. You just kicked Zach Randolph in the nuts. Lol. 20 and 10? There's Andrew Bynum, Nene, Garnett, David Lee, Jefferson, and many other true bigman that you either left out or just don't know about.
@Francozilla Playoffs does not count because their is a much shorter playing period. That's like saying someone who averaged 30 points in 5 games is better than someone who averaged 30 over 25 games. It's much harder to consistently produce numbers and it shows a players true averages. Head to head doesn't count UNLESS they guarded each other the entire time WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE. There are too many factors for a head to head to count unless it's literally 1 on 1. Sorry to tell you.
@fothgt rings does not count in measuring a players greatness.. that's like comparing MJ with 6 rings and Horry with 7 rings oh yeah is Horry a better player than MJ because he had more rings?? i don't think so
Does Gasol have any Defensive and regular season MVPs?? Just a question. Has Gasol damn near single handily carried a franchise into the playoffs for like 12 years?? Just asking.
@dvdylan KG is the fucken man.. But when the Lakers got Gasol, Kobe stayed and they won 2 championships, and another finals visit. Gasol is a better offender. KG is a better Defender. I wish they were both on my local team!
Search Mrkobes1 up top or click on the blue MrKobes1 to see 3 different videos of my 8 year old son Kobe,a cool kid singing to Big Time Rush and Bruno Mars, drumming, and jammin out and please post him a positive comment to make his day!!!! THANKS
@ImmortalSpammer If NOT missing a game for a whole season (82 regular, 10 playoff) is considered 'soft', then your stupid like any BANDWAGON Laker fan (UNGRATEFUL, SPOILED BRATS). He was just burned out like the rest of the Lakers, 3 straight NBA finals (2 NBA rings) will do that to you. He'll bounce back, all great players do. BTW, give the Hornets and Mavs DEFENSE credit, they gave Gasol a tough time, and the Laker BENCH was nonexistent.
@ImmortalSpammer you must be so happy right now after your Bulls took game 1 emphatically. well, i'm happy for the Bulls, be great to see them in the Finals.
Thank you for replying, so I can continue repeating: The LA Rapers... errr Fakers... err Lakers... are OLD, ANCIENT and DINOSAURS. Even Bryant (THE Rapist) is now in his mid-30's, pushing 35. LA GOT RAPED by THE MIGHTY MAVS. (How's it feel Dopey Bryant to have it done to you!). And Plow Gasshole(yeah, that Pau Gasol guy)... The Ugly Geico Caveman Twin... is just plain effing UGLYYYYYYYY!!!
@lakerlover48 Bro i feel what you're saying but i think i would put Gasol in front of dirk only because Gasol is a bettter defender. Though it is tough because you can't stop dirk offensively.

@SolidSnakeRules Why such hate over Gasol? Whether he's better than KG or not doesn't matter because they're both WINNERS in the end. So...
Nowitzki >> Gasol
Francozilla 6 months ago
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause Y'know what, I'm quite wrong about you, and got of the wrong foot. It' nice to see an ardent Gasol supporter, not after his recent playoff demise and getting lynched by BANDWAGON Laker fans, calls to have him traded for Howard or Paul. How they forget he was so intrumental in their 2 NBA rings (in 3 straignt finals). I've always respected Gasol (one of my favorites), and I see no shame in seeing him lose to an eventual Finals MVP in Nowitzki.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla Nowitzki is a great player but the reason he won Finals MVP is because who else was going to win it? The other best player was Jason Kidd or Terry. They sure weren't going to win it.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla He's had less triple-doubles than Gasol but he's been in the league longer. That's weird. Like i said. You CANNOT COUNT TOTAL. Because Dirk has been in longer than Gasol the only way to accurately compare is averages. So look up Dirk and Gasols career averages. Post them in the next comment and compare each category. :)
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause Here's their career HEAD to HEAD stats:
Games - 32 (Dirk - 21 Wins 11 Losses) (Gasol - 11 Wins 21 Losses)
Dirk Nowitzki - 23.7 PPG 9.6 RPG 2.6 APG 1.1 SPG 1.2 BPG 2.3 TO .868 FT% .476 FG% .329 3PT%
Pau Gasol - 18.9 PPG 7.8 RPG 2.8 APG 0.3 SPG 1.0 BPG 2.3 TO .733 FT% .515 FG% .000 3PT%
Overall... Dirk >>>> Pau
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla But this is a team effort. Too bad we aren't talking about HEAD TO HEAD. We are talking about who is the better player throughout the season meaning whomever they may play. You continue to try to snoop around the career stats. Lol. Bringing irrelevant nonsense into the conversation. Lets say if every-time. LeBron plays against the Grizzlies and he performs bad does that mean Rudy Gay is better? No it doesn't. Soo....Pau>>>>>Dirk
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause It's not irrelevant it's a fact. Dirk has been about 66% of the time the better player. I still like Gasol, and I'm still astonished to see an ardent Gasol supporter, not after the rough time he's had with the media, critics, and fans just because of one lousy post season. He's still a top 3-5 big man, with Dirk taking the best big man title at the moment. Gasol's had his time, but it's now Dirk's time. It's of course a team, but from a individual standpoint.. Dirk >>>Pau.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla But thing I don't think you are understanding is that it's a team thing. You can't compare Gasols stats ONLY WHEN he plays the Mavs. That doesn't mean Nowitzki was better half the time Nowitzki is not even guarding him. LeBron use to struggle when he played the Nuggets does that mean Carmelo is better no. Just look at the statistics that mater career average and tell me who is better. I understand you like Dirk but don't let it make you blind to the facts.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla You shouldn't count 3PT or FT because they don't really matter for a big man. Gasol also has many accomplishments. Which I really don't see necessary to state. I only count NBA trophies and 3PT trophy doesn't count considering Gasol is a real big man and doesn't shoot 3s. He was on the Lakers so of course he wouldn't win MVP with Kobe on his team. Nowitzki has been in the league longer than Gasol and Gasol has been UNDERRATED forever. Even when he won rookie of the year.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause OK Since your so obsessed with career Regular season stats, here again...
Dirk Nowitzki- 23.0 PPG 8.4 RPG, 2.7 APG 0.9 SPG 1.0 BPG 1.9 TO .476 FG% .877 FT% .381 3PT%
Pau Gasol - 18.8 PPG 9.1 RPG 3.2 APG 0.5 SPG 1.7 BPG 2.4 TO .522 FG% .751 FT% .224 3PT%
Dirk better in - Points, Steals, FTs, 3pt's
Gasol better in - Rebounds, Assists, Blocks
That's 4-3 edge for Dirk in the statistical category.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla Like i said before we aren't counting 3PTs because Gasol doesn't shoot them. He is a REAL BIGMAN. I'm suprised you also didn't count FG% lol. Scoring is only because Nowitzki is the teams first scoring option while Gasol has Kobe. FT really don't matter either seeing how many big man succeed without them. (Shaq, Dwight, Jefferson, and so on.) So if we look at it it's really.
Gasol-Rebounds,Assists,Blocks,FG%
Dirk-Points,Steals
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause OK have it your way, I've stated more than enough my case for Dirk & Gasol. I like to look at the OVERALL statistical picture, and considering both play the PF position, Dirk has the overall statistical edge (especially in Playoffs and Head 2 Heads), simply the better shooter, clutch player. Gasol though (for the last time) the better rebounder, passer, shot blocker, and yes, FG%. Both are a great player and great CHAMPIONS. I'm simply happy for both dudes.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla Me too. I simply don't appreciate when people pretty much degrade Pau Gasol and say someone whose had a good year are better. Yes I think Dirk is a great player if he isn't better than Gasol than he's 2nd or 3rd at the PF position. Personally this isn't my opinion. Many ESPN commentators will tell you the SAME thing. Not that Dirk isn't good. Gasol is just the more ideal big man. Hell Gasol is rated higher in the video game NBA 2K11. Lol.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause Larry Nance was a very shooter also for his height (6'9), as was Alex English (6'9), and Magic Johnson becamse quite a good shooter late in his career. Vlade Divac also had a competent perimeter game. Sabonis displayed some gilmpse of what he could've been had he not been injury prone and came to the NBA much earlier. Lastly, Yao Ming was a really good shooter for his 7'6 frame. Stojakovic could shoot, but didn't play up to his height (6'10). You're man Gasol could also shoot
Francozilla 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause Lastly, Dirk has way MORE clutch plays, GameWinners, 40-point, 50-point games than Gasol will ever have. Historically, Dirk has outplayed Gasol in their head to head meetings.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla Sure he has. Gasol owns Dirk in EVERY statistic but scoring. The only thing that you can actually PROVE that Dirk does better than Gasol is scoring Gasol beats him in everything else. These are facts. What you are saying is just an opinion due to the fact you are not an reliable source and have yet to provide any proof of your claim. That's like me saying Josh Smith is more athletic than LeBron. I can't just say it without any proof.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla You do realize that accomplishments such as trophy wise doesn't make a player better right? We are talking about INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE AND STATS. You continue to bring up irrelevant. Things go look at their career stats. That's what really matters it shows you what they do on a daily bassists and how much they produce in a game. Gasol owns Nowitzki in every category but scoring.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
As much as I like Gasol, Nowitzki is the MORE accomplished player. I'll believe it more if Gasol manages to reach 20,000 points (13,733 points at present). Dirk is also a beast in the post season (3,214 career playoff points w/ averages of 25.9 points & 10.4 rebs). So...
Dirk >>> Pau
Francozilla 6 months ago
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause In the playoffs, Dirk has a better rebounding average (10.4 vs. 9.6) than Gasol, better in steals (same in regular season), as stated eariier assists are about even (2.7 vs. 3.2) also. Blocks (1.0 vs 1.9) again are Gasol's only clear edge. Dirk's 3-point and FT stats are of the charts in the playoffs, no contest there. Gasols FG% are better (52.2-7% regular & playoffs). You're only brining up their 2010-11 stats, these are their REAL career stats... continued.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla No. You can't count the playoff games do to the fact that there are much less compared to regular season which are 82 games. Pau is a better rebounder, passer, defender, FG%, the only thing Dirk beats Pau at is 3PT% and FT which don't matter for big men. That stats don't lie. You continue to bring up irrelevant. How about this before you say anything else. Look up Pau and Dirks career stats post them next to each other and compare on the next comment.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause Career Regular season stats:
Dirk Nowitzki - 23.0 PPG 8.4 RPG 2.7 APG 0.9 SPG 1.0 BPG 1.9 TO .877 FT% .476 FG% .381 3PT%
Pau Gasol - 18.8 PPG 9.1 RPG, 3.2 APG 0.5 SPG 1.7 BPG 2.4 TO .751 FT% .522 FG% .224 3PT%
Career Playoff stats:
Dirk Nowitzki - 25.9 PPG 10.4 RPG. 2.6 APG 1.1 SPG 1.0 BPG 2.3 TO .892 FT% .463 FG% .384 3PT%
Pau Gasol - 17.9 PPG 9.6 RPG 3.3 APG 0.6 SPG, 1.9 BPG 1.9 TO .737 FT% .527 FG% .286 3PT%
continued..
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla Like I said before. We aren't counting playoffs stats because they don't play enough games for them to actually average out. Regular season is 82 games which really shows a players endurance and what they average throughout a season. As you can tell. Gasol is a better rebounder, passer, shot-blocker, higher FG% and just a much better all around BIG MAN. Dirk has numbers more like a bad guard. He's not a real and dominant big man like Pau.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla You never presented ANY PROOF. You just ignore my request and put things that I already stated. PLAYOFFS DO NOT COUNT. They are a short period of games and do not show a players REAL average like the regular season. How about this list Gasol's career averages next to Dirk's and compare them.(Except 3PT% because Gasol is a real big man he does not shoot 3s). Just do that a compare each category. Don't say anything else simply get career averages and compare stats.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause You nuts? 3pts and FTs count since both play the PF position. Dirk just has more range, while Gasol is better in the low post. To make it clear for you, Gasol is the better rebounder, passer, and shot blocker, Dirk the better snatcher, shooter. But, the difference in Gasol's betters is not that much (except in blocks). While Dirk's betters (FTs, 3pts, Steals) are miles apart. Playoffs and Head 2 Heads count, bud. That's where Dirk clearly has the edge.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla So I have a question would you rather take Ersan Ilyasova or would you rather take Blake Griffin on your team? They don't matter there are many of big man who couldn't shoot either 3PT or FT. Like Dwight Howard, Shaquille O'neal, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabar., Hakeem Olajuwan, do I have to continue? That's not a big mans job. Gasol is a true big man. He gives rebounds, effecient from the field, shotblocking, and inside and low post scoring. cont.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause It's a big advantage if your Big is a good shooter and FT shooter, to go along with getting rebounds, ans shot blocking. Dirk best fits that description, he can rebound and block shots when on a role, to go with his limitless shooting range. Gasol is a good FT shooter, better rebounder, shotblocker, and passer. But, Dirk is better in the CLUTCH, in the same catergory as Garnett, Duncan, Jabbar. Howard is a lousy FT shooter and chokes in the clutch. FT's alone matter.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla Dirk cannot rebound and cannot block shots. Sorry to tell you. He is probably one of the WORST 7 Ft. rebounders. Gerald Wallace is a better rebounder than Dirk and he's a Small Forward who is 6'8. Try and name some dominant shooting big man(Power forwards and Centers) FTs do NOT matter. So you're saying Shaq was not one of the most dominant players of all-time? Because he is a horrible freethrow shooter. Shit Rondo is a guard he can't shoot freethrows and still a beast,.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause Of there are (or were) dominant players can dominate by being great defenders or being able to score through sheer will, brute force, talent, or athleticism. Kidd, Johnson, Bird, Shaq, Chamerlain Stockton, etc. are just some of those uncanny players, do whatever it takes to win. Dirk and Gasol have proven enough they too belong in such uncanny groups.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla Yes they have. Even though you didn't answer my request of naming the dominant shooting big men. But okay.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla You do realize that big man shooter means 3 pointers right? Karl Malone, Moses Malone, Olajuwon, Ewing, Jabbar, McHalle, Parish do not belong on this list. You are being much to LENIENT on the word shoot. I mean dominant big man that shoot like a Dirk, Okur, or Peja. That kind of big men. Half the guys you named don't even have that many career 3 pointers. Sorry to tell you.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
Francozilla 6 months ago
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause With Shaq and Yao retiring, the NBA is now severely short of TRUE big men. The Gasol Brothers (Marc & Pau), Brook Lopez, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, Chris Kaman, Andrew Bogut,
LaMarcus Aldridge seem to be the only remaining true big men out there. Al Horford is undersized, but quite solid, while Joakim Noah is quite solid himself, very scrappy player. There's also Amare and Boozer, both really good players, but nothing special.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla Wow. You just kicked Zach Randolph in the nuts. Lol. 20 and 10? There's Andrew Bynum, Nene, Garnett, David Lee, Jefferson, and many other true bigman that you either left out or just don't know about.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause hehehe my bad, I don't watch NBA games as often as I used to. Too busy with family real-life stuffs.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla I do. I like to watch them with my teammates or my coach (No homo). It helps a lot.
KingWithoutaCause 6 months ago
@KingWithoutaCause I forgot to mention Kevin Garnett, a really good shooting big than given credit for.
Francozilla 6 months ago
@Francozilla Playoffs does not count because their is a much shorter playing period. That's like saying someone who averaged 30 points in 5 games is better than someone who averaged 30 over 25 games. It's much harder to consistently produce numbers and it shows a players true averages. Head to head doesn't count UNLESS they guarded each other the entire time WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE. There are too many factors for a head to head to count unless it's literally 1 on 1. Sorry to tell you.
