It's not like there are any other options out there. Bell is worse and does traffic shaping and throttling. The smaller ISPs in QC are just different names for Bell or Videotron so you end up having to deal with the same bullshit anyway.

Videotron's never going bankrupt. The CRTC would have to take action against the current oligopoly (two companies rule the market) and the government would have to recognize Internet access as a fundamental right to the Canadian citizens. But instead they're giving subventions and more liberties to Bell and Videotron. Like spying on their customers, throttling the bandwidth or overcharging for bandwidth consumption. We're always gonna lose in the end.

I can live without TV, in fact I have for the past 4 years. But Internet access is crucial for me on many levels. What's happening is that customers are migrating from TV to the Internet and Videotron is losing money on their digital cable service. You can basically watch movies and shows online, sometimes for free. And your cable provider would much rather have you pay them for it. So they just raise the prices, enforce download caps, use throttling, anything they legally can to discourage you.

The government should force the ISPs to have a frozen monthly price for Internet access, with no hidden fees, contracts or bandwidth limit. That way, the ISPs still make profits but they can't legally rape the customers like they are doing now. Sweden is one of the most advanced countries in the world technologically and they have something like that going on with the government having a tight grip on the ISPs pricings. While we look like clowns with our $60 monthly fees for subpar service.
