I just turned 20 a month ago but still i know some people who havent even heard of aphex twin or any of his entrancing work which is a sin because they listen to flux or skrillex i call blasfimy indeed. This was the begging and true roots to what dub or dubstep is now or had atleast a huge influence
Possibly my favourite track of all time. I could live for 1000 years and not get bored of this. I've thought before about having one question to ask Richard D. James, and definitely high up on my list would be about the voice samples that he used for this track. I bet though that that it will always be shrouded in mystery to all but his closest friends... I always bear in mind that he was 21 when it came out. Who knows how young he was when he made it.
You can talk about knowledge or you can give knowledge. The primitive way to transport knowledge is to use words but the advanced way to transport higher knowledge is to project it trough music into your higher mind and this is what Aphex Twin does with some of his older stuff.
@deadmau5suckz What is it with you "_____sucks" users? There's been one for Bon Iver, Aphex Twin, and now deadmau5. And they all seem to love David Guetta. I'm guessing you're the same person.
@deadmau5suckz They don't even work in the same genre, not even a common broad one. Guetta makes dance/house music, Aphex Twin is electronica. Guetta is decent and at times can be good, but he isn't very creative. While I may have enjoyed his songs from time to time, it's not even fair to compare them. Aphex Twin is on such a higher lever, on a totally 'nother plane.
people are mentioning kanye probably because he acually samples the last part of the piano in Aphex's "avril 14th" on his song feat. john legend: "the blame game"
man my comment is pretty dumb now that I read it 9 months later... it's like one of those copy and paste comments that people write just to get thumbs up
@aa7111 so true and it is interesting how squarepusher took the opposite approach to digital music, he went to the complex rythms and beats just goes to show what a genius can do. best album by aphex twin love it.
I have this album, and I must say, it defines the genre of electronic music. Its an absolute masterpiece and I think EVERYONE should have it in their collection, or at least listen to it. Albums like this arent produced today, and thats a pity. But at least it will always be a classic.
@ElectrumZephyr I LOVE BT! lol alot of people consider his stuff just dance music, but theres more to it. You hear substance and soul in there. BT doesn't write 'fluff"
@ElectrumZephyr The Tao Te Ching is such an amazing book. I'm glad at least one other person in the world has had the pleasure to experience it's beauty.
@KWIfilms haha... i think kanye is a good rapper, and a better producer. i don't even know what prompted me to write that comment, or why so many people thumbed it up...
@colenbrak Hip hop is full of self-proclaimed geniuses, kings, "Christs", and "Gods"--Kanye, the loon, is a perfect example. But does anybody really RESPECT Kanye West, the man? Fuck no. Electronica, on the other hand, has artists like Aphex Twin, who, though they truly are geniuses, don't try to inflate their ego to Godhood. They're just true to themselves and their music. And that is a hell of a lot more respectable.
it might just be my laptop speakers but that pat pat pat pat that goes throughout the whole song sounds like someone hittin from the back real slow and steady hahahahhaaaaa
@colenbrak you're right about their difference though... this is art, while most of western mainstream consists of identity supplements for the commercially hypnotized human resource

@colenbrak I have to concur with you! As I read in the Tao Te Ching,
"Those who know do not speak; those who speak do not know."
Precisely why I love artists like Aphex Twin and BT.
