Brubeck did great stuff...but for me this is REAL jazz: young Woody Shaw on his own piece already pushing the tonal limits of straight ahead; Joe rips a mean riff on the first bridge of his first chorus in its 2nd 4--indicative of his ever masterful artisty; Larry Young's virtuosity 2-fistin'(or is he 4-limbin'?) this labyrinthine piece(dig his solo's 3rd chorus foray into poly-rhythmics)...Elvin's uncanny sense of anti-time groovin'; the Van Gelder stamp--this is home to me.
One of my favorite tunes.... and records!
