@newyorkyanks22 Really? Tim Russert was so much a part of the establishment, going to parties and rubbing elbows with the elite, the Illuminati loved Tim Russert. He was the elite.
man tim russert was tough.....he's a lawyer.....that's his job; he has to cross examine and challenge the politicians who aspire to the highest office of the land......yeah, i would be a little nervous if he questioned me like that in the debate.....haha!
For a moment i thought Tim was asking Obama if Obama becomes the President of the U.S.A., would Israel remain the 51 State as all other President has secured since 1947. Israel is not the only Semitic Nation, Islamic Nations and Ethiopia are Semitic. Why U.S.A. has to pledge of allegiance to Israel during its Presidential election but not Canada, England , Germany, France, China or India? Which Lobbyist is not Jewish? Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs and others are pro Israel. Who paid Tim...
I never saw him in action before, but only on Charlie Rose appearances. Man he was tough and did a tremendous job of holding them to the fire on valid questions.
Boy oh boy, now that Russert is dead who is asking hardball questions of politicians like he did? I love watching these liars being held accountable for their words. This muslim is officially GOING DOWN..... The latest nail in the proverbial coffin is this memo from the Canadian gov't concerning NAFTA to Obama. He said it didn't happen, until the memo surfaced, now "he wasn't aware". Looks like your hero is a typical deceitful politician who will say anything to get elected. Especially when there are enough ignorant people in this country to SWALLOW it whole. You know who you are....
Here's a clue: After the 2006 Democratic Victory in which liberals took back both houses of the Congress, bigger in overall percentage gain than Newts victory in 1994, the Sunday following the Nation's Repudiation of the War in Iraq, Tim Russert invited Congress' two main Iraqi War Hawks as his exclusive Meet the Press guest: Republican John McCain and Independent Joe Lieberman. Not a single Democrat appeared on the show, after the greatest Democratic Congression Victory since Watergate!
Hillary Clinton shows she has the stuff to be commander in chief. She does not take anything from Russert and she sure won't take anything from foreign interests. She does not get rattled in the way other candidates have, when Russert bulldogs her. She was right on to call him on it!
How is it then that she could not or would not answer Tim's hypothetical question about a resurgent al qaeda in Iraq, but somehow, Baraq managed to provide a reasonable answer? And why couldn't she even pronounce Medvedev's name and only knew he was Putin's hand picked successor? That does not show much foreign policy depth to me.
Regarding the coment about not knowing how Russert stands politically,
I have seen most of the debates that have aired over the past several months, and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind how Russert stands, particulary when it comes to Sen. Clinton. It can be said he's a tough interview, but only if he does not agree or like you. While I'm on it, chris Mathews is like Russert lite. I truly don't know why they don't work for Fox
TPM is JUST now realizing what a right wing hack Ruseert is? His biased unprofessional debate performances? ...I thought you guys were defending him when it was just Hillary he was hitting?? Now you get it huh? He wore aBush lapel pin in 2000 in support of George Bush.
"MOST LIBERAL senator in the senate - e.g. not just for abortion but for allowing babies who are born, breathing on their own to be killed, is just one sterling example) is NOT GOING to unite people who believe in life!! He's not going to unite me because I strongly dislike his views.
You can't force people to unite over issues they despise."
irl(earl) Your statement about 'babies who are born, breathing on their own to be killed. .' is so incredibly IGNORANT on your part that you should have all your crayons taken away. No one believes that, it isn't legal anywhere in the US under any circumstances and no one advocates it.
You are a common BIGOT as are your Repube buddies and there is no place in the USA for your kind of ilk. If you can't accept a black man as president, then get your hillbilly ass outta here!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hillary launches these kind of attacks on Obama all the time. She deserves to meet her match (Russert). Obama diffuses the pressure pretty well, I must admit.
All the same, this is AMUSING when you string it all together.
Why are these questions clownish? On Nafta they both squirmed around saying what they'd really do, and in general everything after that was delving into the core of the issues with that line of questions--to try to keep both Obama and Hillary out of convienient abstraction.
I didn't see Vercafier raise a red flag when Russert had Ron Paul on Meet The Press
and had an aggressive interview that would make this look like a piece of cake.
actually this is very instructive as far as the candidates' records, and without having to hear them bullshit too much and of course yes this dude is crazy
Russert goes on about presidential hopefuls "SUPPORT OF ISRAEL"
Why is that a huge issue on the table? Jewish population in the USA is only 2% and many of those Jewish peoples are against Israel's genocide of Lebanese and Palestinian peoples in occupied territories
Why bring those questions up? Could it be that Russert is persuaded by AIPAC monies and/or favor?

I love her and I think she will be much better at fighting John McCain on foreign policy. Republicans will vote for her and not Hussein.
I don't want our President meeting with Kim Jong Il or Acknaminijad (I don't know how to spell his name).
There are videos flying around of voters trying to block Hill (some Ind. and Rep.), and who will end up voting for McCain. I think they are making their own deathbeds.
your argument was intelligent until you decided to use 'Hussein' ClinicalP, as a way to score some cheap shots. I neither love Hillary nor Obama, but I sure would never vote for Hillary, a woman who uses dirty tactics then cries fowl. Either be a professional like Obama and take it @ the chin, or be a political hog and own up to your dirty b.s.
People cannot seem to see that Obama is calculating, very calculating. They often accuse Hillary of that because we know she is very smart. We hold her to a higher standard. That question about the Russian successor, I GUARANTEE Obama would not have known the answer, they tried to play the "gotcha" card with Hillary (when Obama is the questionable one). I'm confused. Actually, I'm not and that is the point.
Your guarantee is dead wrong. Obama did "work" with Medvedev in the CFR, HRC has not. Obama is calculative but not as dirty as HRC. She is shrewd but not as smart as Obama on the issues. And 20% of Obama votes are from Reps and Indies, proving your point wrong. She is the hate figure of the right. McCain has not attacked her and yet she is trailing him by 9% in national polls. Obama is leading by 5%. Obama is a darling to the camera and that is why he always had more coverage.
Tim is in the tank for McCain --he set up the Iraq argument for the Gen election nicely there by getting Obama to say he would go back into Iraq after Al Qaeda, nice Russert, thank you GE owners of NBC, MSNBC ....
I, as many, have been very frustrated with the media for not pressing for definitive answers historically on a number of issues. Lazy and groupthink journalism. You have a point with the line of questioning and Russert's bizarro hypotheticals (obviously not new)...but to characterize his 'approach' as too rough or tough? Seriously? Sounds like a personal bias, and I wish the media would work to flesh out more than 'American Idol' type of moments.
I want him to ask them if they think if Bush and Chaney should be Impeached? And, why haven't they led the fight to have the house of Representatives bring Bush and Chaney up on charges ? They did take an oath to support and defend the Constitution. We're still waiting for that to start.
I don't know, you tell me you fucking dolt. Obviously you aren't paying attention. Ask yourself why the likes of Biden, Clinton, Obama, Clodd Oops i mean Dodd aren't saying anything about Iraq. Because Iraq is doing extremely well AND the issue that Dems most referred to as the lynch pin for their support, "political reconciliation' has happened. You know, the "benchmarks". Read up...
At the end of this clip, I know more about Russert's views and thoughts thatn I know about the candidates positions on issues. He verbally attacks their record and then gives them no chance to defend themselves. It disgusts me.
what are you talking about, they did have a chance this clip was severely edited. secondly, their answers are 99% bullshit so its pointless to ask a question and let them go on and on without even directly answering it. how about a simple answer for gods sake. i will never vote for bullshit.
Russert is not an "attack dog" he is perfectly right to hold both candidates accountable on the issues of Iraq and unregulated trade. The policy of globalization is destroying American jobs and increasing exploitation of low-wage labor overseas. Up to now media heads have given Democrats a pass on these issues. It's about time somebody asked both candidates the tough questions.
I love Big Russ, Jr., and I'm really looking forward to his interview with Springsteen (if it ever happens). But he's gone off the deepend with these hypotheticals from hell, and these irrelevant, inflamatory quotes.
I found these questions absurd, its like every black man who is a public figure have 2 denounce every nutcase including Farakhan.
Reagan was endorsed by right wing racist groups, same for McCain, does anyone asked them 2 denounce or reject?
I'm sick and tired for our political platform, our tax payers money, our dead soldiers being dragged into a Zionist racist state of Israel and a fanatic, nationalist Arabs. Let them sort it out and find a way.
This video is unfair to Russert and a disservice to any American looking to get some answers or explanations from the two running for the Democratic nomination. It's a dirty video that's just as bias as any crap FOXNEWS puts up.
I'm glad Tim Russert was there because I'm sick of double-speak, false promises, and empty poetry--he's finally stripped the candidates of their arrogance and I'm beginning to understand where these two people who might lead this country are coming from. Thanks, Tim!
We really need to find a way to have some interesting, civil, intelligent people asking the questions in our televised open presidential forums. John Stewart feels ambivalent about engaging in real journalism, but I think he could do an excellent job.
He probably just doesn't want to get caught in the media web. He honestly WOULD be a great journalist, but then he would have to be mainstream.. (not in comedy, but in news)
You have ties to extremism if you support Zionism, which I get the feeling you do. See, I can say I'm a moderate because I want peace between both Palis and Israel. I don't like Israel's strong military arm and Palestinian terrorists. Yet I realize BOTH sides are wronging each other. Obama realizes this too. But due to Jewish influence in the U.S., he can't say much for Palestinians. Extremists like you, however, continue to support state terrorism.
i want to hear the candidates speak about NAFTA... i want Hillary to explain her record. I want to know what Obama plans to "change"... SO what? Russert doesnt let the politicians get away with their duck and run and swerve tactics. boo freakin hoo. Times are tough now on both of the ONLY TWO PARTIES in AmeriKa. Fantastic. Let's cheer for our favourite party! YEAH! fun times. Perhaps Russert needs to focus more on HGH and Patriots footbal scandals right??? insert rolly eyed smiley icon: here.
What's up with MSNBC? They are another FOX news. I'm so tired of these oldsters like Chris Mathews and Russert trying relive the Kennedy years thru Obama. What kind of change is that? Mathews, well, he is just an entertainer, but Russert can't claim he's a journalist anymore after last night.I hope Hillary wins, just so I can see them eat her poo. Video's amazing!
great video. accurately captures what is so terrible about the debates 'moderated' by the likes of tim russert.
tim russert is a despicable turdlick.
note to turdlick: the debates are supposed to be between the candidates, not between YOU and the candidates you egotistical coward. your job isn't to land as many punches as you can and pretend that you and your partner in slime, chris 'tweety' matthews, are just being hard nosed-journalists.
Russert is not interested that we be informed. His questions serve his ego. He wants to create controversy (real or imagined). Seeks atta boys from his colleagues and confuses journalistic opportunism with journalistic integrity. It's pretty annoying. I'm an Obama supporter, but I wanted to sock Russert on Hillary's behalf. The Farrakan question was just strange. I am so tired of every black person always having to be accountable for what other black people say and do. That is just way old.
The questions were fine. The problem was Russert wouldn't let them answer. He wanted to ask and answer the question himself. The nest answer came when Mrs. Clinton told him he was giving too many hypothetical issues. He is an idiot.
I think Russert was over the top and I am a fan of Meet the Press. This wasn't meet the Press. He couldn't get the moderator role down. Yes, it is good to not let candidates evade questions but he went too far as a moderator. And I watched the whole thing - not just this clip!
What's the point of chopping this all up, the whole point of Youtube is so we don't have to watch soundbites. I watched the debate and I commend him for aking them the questions he did, for some reason the questions didn't seem as "clownish" in full context.
I think Tim Russert is fantastic. He's one of the only ones who asks tough questions of EVERYONE that are about as un-biased as you're going to get on cable TV/network TV.
So McCain ripped Obama a new one after his remarks on Al Queda. Whoah.
It's great to see the media being critical. We could of used some of this during the build up to the war in Iraq! It's our job to question the candidates, not to praise them and give them our unconditional support. Senator Clinton and Senator Obama whatcha about?
The part that I thought was the most important and no one seems to be talking about it was when Obama said that he would re-invade Iraq. They didn't let Clinton to respond to it and cut to commercial. He pretty much uses the same justification for going into Iraq again that Bush used to invade the first time. Did anyone else catch that part or was it just in my head?
I believe he was given orders to be "on attack". This is not his "usual" style. It was the good ol' good cop bad cop approach. However, I don't think it made this debate any different from the others.
Yeah, Tim did ask a few too many hypotheticals, but I think mots of his questions needed to be asked. The truth is that when it comes to homeland security, in particular, most poilicies are preventive, if not preemptive, and hypothetical scenarios have to be discussed in order to keep the American public safe.
Russert reminds me of Joe"Tailgunner"McCarthy waving the papers and pamphlets around and badgering the witnesses. The point is the gotcha moment ,the point is ratings. But he's a regular guy from Buffalo just up Rt.9.
I liked the tough line of questioning, but I think that the American people really deserve to know where Obama stands on the vital question of diamonds and pearls.
russert is a jerk... he is more interested in playing "gotcha" than asking real questions about issues. he thinks it makes him look tough. the whole debate was more like a trial. it shouldn't be about the moderators. we should hardly notice that they are even there... not with russert though! it's all about him!
When the "moderator" takes 60 seconds to wind up a question, it's usually a bad sign. When the underlying premise is "you're a liar! you lied! admit it!", the moderator is not doing his job.
Also, there are, almost certainly, no more Republican debates. So Tim probably won't be beating up McCain, with a huge national audience, any time soon.
Okay, maybe he overstretched it a bit with the follow up questions on Iraq and Farrakhan, but altogether I appreciate, that he didn't just go on, if the candidates gave some wishy-washy answers. One of these candidates (incl. McCain) will become the most powerful individuum in the world. She or he will have the power to decide over war and peace. They should be able to answer every question.
I would prefer a moderator act tough and be an ass, than for a moderator to be a gushing pushover. I'm sure there could always be some happy medium between the two, but of those two extremes I would prefer aggressive questioning regardless of the parties involved. We've all seen what a complacent and spineless media can do. Just look how they empowered Bush after 9/11 to abuse our trust and exploit our fears, all the while allowing him to escape responsibility & accountability.
there is an unwritten rule amongst politicians that forbid discussing a seated president's policies, I know that sounds crazy and there is nothing to back up my claim other then the blatant oversight of what Bush is currently doing otherwise the question would be posed: If either of you upon being elected have evidence of wrong doing of the Bush administration, what steps would you take to see that justice is carried out?
your guess is as good as mine. I am a Obama supporter and my belief is that with his presidency transparency shall preside over politicians ability to seal this and that for 25/50, etc. years in their hopes of anyone implicated in their divisive actions are dead before they pay the price for their deeds.
Having said that, I believe in karma and this has only been fortified when I see the Clingons getting what I think they deserve from their contribution of disrespecting the people of the US.
Great clip. Li'l Russ is disrespectful. He tries to play tough when it was uncalled for at times. Just ask a follow-up if they dodge your question and save the theatrics.

I think Russert is one of the better political personalities in America.(though that might not mean so much these days, lol!)
It is hard to figure out where he stands politically, which is a good sign in an interviewer!
colster4life 3 years ago

She was right on to call him on it!
ellscruiser 3 years ago

This is a very scary time for America.

your argument was intelligent until you decided to use 'Hussein' ClinicalP, as a way to score some cheap shots. I find something very funny.
We know they hate her.
ClinicalPsych55 3 years ago
Your guarantee is dead wrong. Obama did "work" with Medvedev in the CFR, HRC has not. Obama is calculative but not as dirty as HRC. She is shrewd but not as smart as Obama on the issues. And 20% of Obama votes are from Reps and Indies, proving your point wrong. She is the hate figure of the right. McCain has not attacked her and yet she is trailing him by 9% in national polls. Obama is leading by 5%. Obama is a darling to the camera and that is why he always had more coverage.

Russert is not an "attack dog" he is perfectly right to hold both candidates accountable on the issues of Iraq and unregulated trade.

The part that I thought was the most important and no one seems to be talking about it was when Obama said that he would re-invade Iraq. kensdad44 3 years ago
