When I was little, I knew Kennedy's lyrics-- they were in an illustrated children's book, published sometime around '83? Pastel drawings of teddy bears playing sack hop and blind man's bluff, climbing trees, pulling red wagons with honeycombs and the like.
I knew the tune of the first half of the song, but back before YouTube the rest remained a mystery. Hearing this made my day-- thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the lovely comment!. I used to listened to this everyday on radio back in the late 60s growing up in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon). Kiddies corner at 6.00 pm always started with Teddy Bear's Picnic. Further, we had a great music teacher, a nun, an accomplished pianist and a violinist, probably the 'Singing nun of Ceylon', who often used to play this on piano for us to line up and enter the classroom. Good old days !!
This was recorded originally by Henry Hall and the BBC Dance Orchestra with Val Rosing on vocals. This recording is on "Try A Little Tenderness" a compilation of Val Rosing's best recordings with Henry Hall, as well as with his own orchestras. Google Val Rosing to find out more about Rosing - he had a fascinating life.
I remeber this as well; listenning in to Radio Ceylon ? Children's corner in the evenings. I also recall stuff by Danny Kaye, The tooth brush song. Keep up the good work!

Hi Jude,
Wow! an old classic!
This also reminds me a track from 'Oliver' (1968) and I think sung by fagan to Oliver 'you've got to pick a pocket or two'. Nice trumpet!
Thanks for uploading.

Hi Anton,
Thanks very much for the lovely comment. Yes, you are correct, it was Radio Ceylon, and I have corrected it. CBC was way before my time!!
