I'm not running you down , because it looks very cool and fancy but I am 13 and 5.3 and I use a 6 ft graphite b which is quite heavy but I do shotokan Japanese traditional karate(funokoshi style) ! So I think for you to improve you should add some more strikes , bocks , kicks and stances to make it look more martial arty but otherwise good :)
that's not a bo staff. traditional bo staffs are 6 feet, so unless you are actually 8 feet tall...learn about what you are using before you make videos of it. it looks more like a jo staff like mentioned earlier.
That is some pretty amazing stuff, not only are you good at spinning it in your hand and around your shoulder, but you can do it perfectly on both sides. These moves are really hard to learn for the average bo staff fighters, and it takes some skill to perform the same moves on both sides of the body, well done. All you need to do is take it up to the next level, add other tricks, I noticed in this video that you were doing the same thing every time, add other tricks, make up some, Well done!
This will probably sound amateurish but, hey if you don't ask you don't learn. Are the XMA Staffs really really lite or something? I have a 6' White Oak Bo and though I am pretty fast with it, I am no where near the speed as some people like Nick Bateman and Casey Marks. Given that they have probably had many years of training, I notice that were using XMA staffs pretty much every time I seen them. Are they incredibly light or something. I know the metallic shine makes them appear faster, still.
@Samuel032593 yea they are ALOT lighter. just go to centurymartialarts com and look through the bo staffs they are almost all really light ones so be careful not to get a crappy one like i did once.
Spinning the staff, throwing it up and catching it then spinning it more is crap. Actually do moves and stuff that will actually be usefull. If you were against someone else with a staff and you just did those moves all they would have to do is stick theirs out when you throw it up or are spinning it and it would be on the ground in no time and you would get owned. So actually do moves or dont do anything at all.
@Awesome99138 No duh. But if you do these tricks, you get an excellent feel of the staff (width, balancing, weight) that takes years to develop. Once you have that, you pick up sweeps, cuts, etc. in a week. Trust me, I started seven years ago with a garden stick, without lessons. You can switch to different staffs, and have an overall skill level throughout just by practice with one.
Not trying to hate man but i didnt see a single strike in there. If you lose the strikes and forms and all you do is toss and spin the bo it might as well be baton twirling
Not trying to hate man but i didnt see a single strike in there. If you lose the strikes and forms and all you do is toss and spin the bo it might as well be baton twirling
lol broom handle not bo staff bo staffs r 6ft long if thats a 6ft bo staff then u must be liek 12 ft... a candidate for the worlds tallest man lol... fail...
Maybe good for performance and some shows, but this is really not a bo. Maybe you should learn the practical appliance of this weapon instead of this, but well... it's a free choice.
sure you can... its makes no difference what stick you use.....if ur good with it then you acomplished all u want ...right? its the warrior that really matters
@pimphics it can be hard cause if the stick is to short then you just hitt your self with some tricks and to long it crashes into the groudn and to heavy maybe to hard .. annyway srry for me bad inglish
@rebantus Not really. If it's too long, it can crash into your body during certain spins, and too short gives an uneven balancing from such little length to distribute weight over, so it falls out of grip. I learned this the hard way with many bruises on the chest :).
@s3rg457 Anything goes if it is straight and even. But look for something about 1 inch diameter. I go to Home Depot, not some overpriced karate club, and I do fine.
You did almost all the same thing all your video... you need more pratice man because right now it look not proffessional ... sorry !! try new thing because it's not new things !! keep pratice !!
pas mal, toi au moin tu sais manier le jo artistiquement, mais est ce que tu sauré vraimant t'en servir en combat réel ? ^^ continue coomme sa c'est bien !!! ( +5 )
Excellent stuff mate... loved it... but why do you wanna stand at one place and do the things ur doing... get the grace going bro... u already have it... transfer the flow to your legs a bit... move around... dance with it... Great stuff in any case... Thumbs up.
I'm going to be a little harsh. The 'Bo Staff' does not exist. A true practitioner know that. It is simply 'Bo' for both single and plural. The word Bo already signifies it is a staff. You have a born talent for stick swirling but you are simply twirling and not performing any Bo movements. I haven't even seen the basics in there. Nevertheless I can see you have dedication and talent so I admire your efforts. Please do keep practising and perhaps take up the real art. I'm sure you'd ace it.
I enjoy it as well. Sorry that it's not in higher quality. I'll post this in HD because of your comment in a few weeks. It is shot and edited in 1080i... check plus!
if you found a karate club you could actually be taught the real moves, its just that you're style as "stuntman" doesn't really go well with bo staff. i recommend joining a club or learning with someone who knows, then buying an XMA brand bo and making up a kata. great work though i certainly couldnt teach myself all those moves
This presentation of my skills is very outdated, now even the video responses above are outdated, but if you want to see some progression I would recommend seeing one of those. Take care!
Nice tricks...got to learn them ^_^ ... btw, I'm an aikido practitioner, I know those moves are not effective, but as you say, really entertaining :D nice done man :D
not bad, cool tricks but why don't you stand some where you have room and have balance? I mean it looks stupid walkin back and forth on the brick wall and the rocks.
Though it looks good it takes a lot out of the looks if you shoot a bo staff from any other angle than horizontal if that's what the majority of you're spins are. Think about it, an angle from over the head would make the staff just look like a line.
Just a bit of constructive criticism, good video though.
u know some tricks, but still cant control plains and the hand you don't have your staff in is just hanging there, which ruins a lot of the effect. keep up the good work
