Ok Kat or Gail I just gave Breville then best suggestion ever!! Wouldent it be cool if you can have a button or lever to adjust the grinds? And of course I also asked if hey can make it shorter. I know it's hard to tell in your store, but that thing is tall!!! Imagine If this cool coffeemaker had a way to adjust the grinds.
You brew Kat no you brew Gail no you brew Barry hahaha
From watching your video I love this coffee maker, except I don't want to have to warm up the pot prior to brewing. I know that my husband won't to this. Do you know when Breville plans to release the glass carafe version? Now I'd buy that in a heartbeat. I just don't now whether I can wait. So I may have to get the Jura Capresso glass grind and brew instead. What do you think?
I drink my coffee black, and this makes for one heck of a clean tasting cup of coffee. The only con is that it doesn't offer a grind only feature. Of course I consider the burr grinder a bonus.
Notes: Pre-heat your mug or carafe especially if you're preparing smaller amounts.
On single cup mode it seeps the coffee. If larger than the first 3 settings it will seep then run extra hot water through the beans.
@joe4ska Cool! Thanks for sharing; we didn't read the manual, actually, because the designer walked us through it and made coffee for us so just went by his story. Great to know they have more tips on the manual, we'll check 'em out - Kat
@dbrodian It doesn't have the same issue with the steam getting up in the grind chute like the newer Capressos do. I think you can likely set the Capresso to make a richer cup as you could add less water and brew with more coffee; you could only do this with the YouBrew if you used the pre-ground option. - Kat
How's the messiness factor of this machine? I've used some grind and brew models that made a godawful mess, and condensation entering the grinder area was a major problem as well.
@krantul It's similar to a regular maker. The little door mechanism they built that shuts down the coffee chute during brew keeps the condensation from affecting the coffee and grounds. - Kat
Thanks for the review. I saw an ad for this in the Williams Sonoma catalog for Christmas 2011, for 279.95, free shipping. (Sugg, retail price was listed as 350.00).
@romancewriter YouBrew should be out in a few big box stores; we're trying to get a few in if we can swing it :) Keurig is nicely convenient but the cup is not as rich as you can get from a drip pot - Kat
First of all I love your videos!!! Besides doing a comparison with the Technivorm apples to apples e.g. between two machines, have you thought of doing a Breville Youbrew VS a pour over blind taste test against a Chemex or Hario? I would love to see the results!
@Vespagt250 Great suggestion ... but the preps are so different, the grinds are, anyway, and, I suspect, is going to skew it in favor of the pour over vs. standard drip coffee. But I'll mess around with some variables and see if I can come up with a good test. :) - Kat
I've been wanting to get a new coffee maker since I was upgrading my espresso machine and I've been thinking of going Keurig but now Breville has put out this nazzy machine I may change my mind. (again).
Ooh I want this for my office.. I'm sure even my non-coffee-drinking coworkers will appreciate this machine (well, except for the grinding noise maybe :). New camera btw?
Not everyone who visits likes espresso so I need a regular coffee machine for when we have guests. I've been close to pulling the trigger on a Technivorm but this machine looks pretty cool
How's the coffee distribution? From the way the coffee enters, it look like it would all get pilled up on the machine side of the basket, and you wouldn't get very even extraction. I'm also curious about the burrs in the grinder -- are they the same as the smart-grinder?
@zhypoh It's good -- there is a little baffle that the coffee hits and then it distributes evenly in the basket instead of just ending up in one area. The grinder is not as great as we'd like; I'm thinking it's probably closer to the Burr Grinder level so that could be a future improvement if they take it on. We'd love to see some ability to change the grind...but in our next test video we have more info to share on it after we've played with it for a couple of weeks. - Kat
Wow, beem me up Scotty. That machine rock's. the best feature is not having to use all the water in the tank. For a morning travel mug you could maybe get three days of use before filling the reservoir again.
Cant wait for the side by side with the Technivorm.
Breville is in the works for the glass version (no Heating necessary). Stay tuned.

How about reviewing the grinder, that is how good job it does of grinding evenly ?
