  • how the heck did you figure this out, you Surprisingly Genius Knitter, Jeny!? thank you so much for sharing with us all.

  • The way combined knitting cast ons work are remarkably similar. Annie Modesitt's website has that method, but YouTube won't let me post a link. Google it!

  • Extremely stretchy cast-on! Took a few times to get it, but after getting it right, I loved it! Mine started off a bit too tight, so the first row of knitting was hell, but looks great and stretches to twice the size I need. Thank you!

  • Thank you so much for this video. It's just what I was looking for! Prefect for the bottom up double knit hat.

  • Jeny Thank you so much. I'm a Kiss Loom knitter that has recently started needle knitting. I couldn't help but smile when I seen this cast-on as it is one I do on the loom to mimic the Lucet-Look-Bind-Off (LLBO) I came up with. I have never tried to teach this cast-on on the Kiss Looms but now that I see your video perhaps I will have to. Thank you so much for your techniques they are helping me to make sense of needle knitting.

  • this is awesome i have only been using the long tail cast on since i taught myself to knit. thanks so much for sharing!

  • Hi Jenny, you bought a BIG HA HA HA when that "sea-lion" pic pop out...thanks.

  • Thank you thank you. Watched Cat do your clever cast off and then, just like you say, wanted the cast on. Ah so much to learn and so little time.

  • Ah yes, I know this problem. Thanks for your comment!

This cast-on technique doesn't work well with textured or high-friction yarns. It's great for very smooth yarns (and since I usually use it for making socks, it works out fine since sock yarns are smooth).

You can read more on this topic if you visit my blog, curiousknitterATblogspotDOTcom, the article is in September 2009.

  • ohhhh wat cool \m/

  • This is the only one that is truly universal. Thank you so much! I have been searching for a cast-on that works with my custom ribbing without success until now.

  • Thank you! What a cool technique and excellent explanation. Just yesterday I was looking for an alternative to the loop cast on which I needed to use to add stitches in a row of knitting; this looks like it would work for that. Thanks again!

  • This is THE BEST CO ever!!! It's even better than your bind off. Thanks

  • Thank you so much for this cast on! LOVE IT! I know I can remember this and it looks prettier than the Long Tail Cast-on ;) It is in my video playlist now.

  • Wow, thanks so much. I'm loving using both your bind off and cast on. When I'm doing this cast on I find it a bit tricky to manipulate the yarn itself to make the slip knots. So what I do is make the reverse loop close to the previous st then lay the working yarn over the needle from the front then pick the loop up and drop it over. I then snug up the sealions. Have you tried the CO like that?

  • LOL - well doesn't Knitting and Crocheting in and of itself make the Universe a better place??? LOL.

Thanks for the great new cast on! I must adapt automatically to the purl/knit stitch then on its own? can't wait to give it a try - I'm working on a sweater at the end of the month and I might work for the sleeve ends -- ooo or cuff-down socks ... or band up hats ... or Cowl scarves ...

Now look what you did ... you are making my hubby's credit card universe kind of sad - but I'm happy!

  • hee hee.. you made me giggle..

  • Wow!! So easy.

  • Dear Jeny, for us who suffer with lymphadema swelling in our feet and legs, we thank you with hugs!!! Finally I can make a pair of perfect stretching socks and NOT cut off my circulation.

    God bless YOU!

    smiles, grace in V t

PS I have placed your video on my playlist called KNIT HELP

  • Jeny, you are a national treasure. This is SO clear, so useful, so memorable. I love it. And the sea lions are perfect. —from Cat Bordhi
