@koobl0 the MIAO have 4 major sub-groups and the hmong is part of them...if u go google for hmong population only 4-5mil+ hmongs but when you google miao populations theres 10-12mil+ miaos (inclued the hmong).

its just the that side joke is that hmong leeg (green) people have the tendency to call the colors blue as green. and therefore the joke was made. that was how the green/leeg joke was made, and people seperate themselves now. ex. pang: bring me that green bottle lee: *brings green bottle* pang: no not this one. that one! lee: but taht is blue. pang: I know. xD;;; I know because I'm green.

I dont know what Hmong meant. it's what we called ourselves. but the word miao meant "rice children". It's the name the Han(chinese) gave us becuase we are the first people to cultivate rice in modern day China. Hmong meant "free man" only because Dr. Yang said so. hmong/miao never meant trouble maker or barbarians or cats.

No it's not. The Mandarin Chinese just gave us that name. We call ourselves Hmong(Hmoob) or Mong,, depending on what dialect we speak. I don't know where you got your info from, but its not true.

Hmong is us, The Chinese call us "Miao", because we like on the high lands, Miao means "Highlanders", but only in Mandarin Chinese. You see Hmong has gotten angry at Chinese for calling us that, because in other Languages, the sound of the word "Miao" will translate to "Cat", which angers us.

These are Hmong people, My Aunt is Hmong Chinese from China, shes been in the Us for 4 years now, shes says they call themselves Hmong as well, but kinda pronounce it "Mong", without the "H" sound, because its kinda silent. At first I could not understand my Aunt, because she spoke the Hmong-Chinese Green dialect and I spoke Hmong-Lao White dialect, Understanding her was hopeless, but my Uncle can speak her language. My aunt can speak White Hmong kinda clear now, but she still talks kinda fast.

Not because of starvation. It was a ritual and it was not just random people, it was little kids that they where said to eat and not any older than 10 years old. They eat them for health and longer healthy life. It what I heard from my Great Grandfather, who is a Hmong-Chinese with a minor Mongolian background.

Before the secret war all cultures including western cultures called the Hmong "Miao", and it was not until the secret war that the Hmong started requesting others to call them Hmong. So yes igot2remember is right about that part. However Hmong have always called themselves Hmong and that has been around since the beginning of the Hmong. it is not a new word for the Hmong people

mostly like they are in southeast of Guizhou, check Xijiang vallage. They normally performance this kind of dancing during their festival, which has about over 150 different one in Guizhou alone. But now they do it all the time for tourist.

yes... did this is widely practice all throughout most Miao tribes in CHINA... i have the video of this dance... not this dance but another dance like this one.. sorry, i can't upload it.. hmong people do not dance slow.. because we're from southeast asia, we lost many of our dance styles.. but this is one that many miao chinese still practice.. ^^
