  • That "Businessman" needs to be slapped!

  • RIGHTTORIGHT1, YOU HAVE GOT IT WRONG, BIG TIME! THE REPUBLICANS ARE THE ONES WHO ARE TAKING EVERYONE'S CULTURE AWAY FROM THEM. WHAT COUNTRY DO YOU LIVE IN? FINALLY, THERE'S A PERSON OF COLOR IN THE WHITE HOUSE, AND THE ONLY REASON HE'S THERE IS BECAUSE HE'S PART WHITE. BLACK PEOPLE DESERVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK OF THEIR WOES. OUR BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS HAVE PAID THE PRICE. SOME OF US ARE A CAJUN MIX TOO. THOSE TAKING OVER THE LAND AND STEALING SACRED CULTURE ARE REPUBLICANS. CHECK IT OUT.

  • @righttoright1 I'm sorry to hear that but don't get mad at us. We are aware about the mistreatment of other non-white people we're just talking about our problems but we do talk about others sometimes.

  • They can talk al they want but to be honest it wasn't them that were brought on slave ships and it wasn't anyone alive today driving those ships... it shouldn't even be a topic of discussion.

  • Very Sad!

  • That girl has got some big damn teeth! I'm surprised she didn't say, "I can hear my ancestors tellin me how bigs my teeths is."

  • Places Like Gullah Country, Acadiana, and Pennsylvania Dutch Country should become New States within the US so they can protect their culture.

  • Hi. I would like to take this tour. Could you tell me please where can I locate the ferry and what island are the Gullah people on. Thank you.

  • Why don't the Gullah people take the uninhabited part of the island and make it a resort so they can make profits for their own community and tell the buyers to go fuck themselves.

  • @DanmEveryNameIsTaken That would ruin the whole feel of the island and the culture that they are trying to preserve. The woman at the end of the video said it best~ If I can buy bread and eggs, go to the doctor and pay my bill, what would I do with the excess that the government is going to take from me anyway?

  • White folks always ruining people and people culture there the most selfish race ever

  • @Kevontae678 no youre just racist and the most violent race

  • white people irk me

  • My grandfather was Geechee, and I want to buy land on the island to preserve my culture.. its funny how whites come in with this sense of privilege to disrupt other peoples culture to build a fucking golf course?????? I find it difficult to comprehend the white man's ideology.

  • @ndaimageofimhotep I'm "white" and I agree with you 100%. Why do "we" think that we are "entitled" to everything? O.K. This is America, "our country" and that does not give us the right to take over, but we also are so arrogant that we go other lands and start taking over..... I hate it! I hope to GOD the Gullah's can retain their islands and their heritage and I will even go as far as saying it's their birth right!

  • DAME ALL THIS TIME it was jus a cartoon to me now i no its more then that nice to no sum info on how people can live happy and free

  • I am from Africa and i am ready and willing to by my own land in the Gullah Island. All Africans in America must work hard to develope a strong buying power so that we can combine our financies in one pot and buy to preserved our cultural land (Gullah Island). This video is history. I pray to the spirits of our annestors to guide our brother and sisters at the Gullah Island so that we can take back what belong us (Africans).

  • how many people here are in Ms. Hudsons class?

  • @massacrene1 I am! GREAT video! I need to visit. what a shame but no suprise ppl are ruining such a beautiful place

  • Comment removed

  • man thats sucks

  • they are some nice ppl i met a guy names joe he was gullah what a funny dude

  • It would be nice if the people of the island can gain ownership of their property and wealth. It seems this land was part of their families for generations. How did non-Gullah ppl get control of the island ?

  • I've been traveling to south carolina twice a year to visit family over 30 years and never been to that part of the state. WHAT A BEAUITFUL ISLAND. So rich with black history. Im going to visit gullah island. love the video.

  • and then take "us" off? shut the fuck up

  • I had no idea it was a culture such as this until the re-emergence of the tv show gullah gullah island..i never knew what "gullah" meant when the show was on the air...this is amazing....I want to visit this place...

  • It is your birthright!!!! Yes,sir,it is!

  • These wonderful people deserve thier history, and untainted by outsiders! American's such as these people deserve preservation. What a shame and what a loss it would be for everyone, especially for these people, if they should ever go away. Personally, my heart would be broken. I love good people like these. How rich is thier culture?!

  • i tried to post a comment on a zyadeco video that there were gulla people in ga, but they would not post it.why not! most people don't know the difference between zyadeco and cajuen.

  • Story after story after story of tyrants stealing and destroying brown folks' ways of life. Brown people are tired of being exploited. You have tainted your history. Every story of your legacy is one of piracy. Aren't you tired of being the perpetrator of terrorism? You cry about the story of the American Indian, then, you commit the same crime against everyone else in the world. There is something very, clinically wrong with you.

  • I'm a Lowcountry, SC, Sea Island White Boy, near Charleston. Gullah never lived on my island at any time, but their remaining relatives are all over the nearby mainland. Developers aint just a problem for the Gullah. The island i live on used to be a community, my family beenya 4 generations. In the last 20 years I've seen every neighbor on my block bought out, torn down, and replaced by 4 story rentals. It's a damn shame.

Last thing, If you aint never had Gullah BBQ, That a shame too, Mmm Mmm!

  • @mcblah an 1 mo ting, lemme speak jes one mo bit a mind in da tongue i dun dun learn well frum all a'da fine gullah folk i gon ta school wit back on my young year. Da Gullah ain on display like no show n tell kine a'ting. Summa dem gullah folk in my town ain even know what dey is been called Gullah, dey jes know da way dey be. Dey know dey jes talk a luttle diffrent frum ev'ryone else, know dey alway gwine live a little diffrent frum evryone else.

Da comya (tourists) don nevva unnastand.

  • Wow.... God Bless the Gullah, I am so upset that I live in Georgia and just now learning this part of my history. I will share this with my brathas and sistas here in Georgia.

  • @JoJoJokes: Geechee are the ppl... Gullah is the language.

  • @Okie267 The vid is in reference to Queen Quet the spokeswoman for the Gullah people, During the video this is what the people were refered to. Not one time did I hear Geechee, did you even watch the entire clip. r u Geechee??

  • When will the European Ever Quit Stealing sh!

  • These caucasians have no sense of culture , pride or community , Why are they there ? Caucasions are , no Ango Saxo0ns are boring , dull , bland and ugly !

  • @MyriamFrench agreed...anglo saxons dont really have ne particular culture.Blacks, despite being enslaved have retained more of a unique culture than whites have who came to america willingly and under totally diff circumstances than blacks have

  • To my fellow white people: get the fuck off gullah island!

  • Reading the ignorant comments remind me of how sick and twisted people truly are. Post-racial America does not exist! Sad but true!

  • There are no words for to express the beauty and emotionalism of this video.... God bless the Gullah Culture and her peoples............God bless Queen!

  • i used to live in south carolina. i remember going down to charleston and seeing a bunch a gullah women selling woven baskets and stuff like that.

  • I meant to put "Where do you THINK Presley got his moves?" (Continued)." Presley's 1956 single "Hound Dog was a cover song of a 1952 single by the same name. The original was by a black singer named Big Mama Thornton. Yet, some people don't know that. I wonder why. Hmmmm.

  • @tolldoll100 that is my ring tone :)

  • Most styles of music that exist today were started by Afro-Americans. Rock & roll is one. Rock & roll wasn't started by Elvis Presley. It was started before he released his first album in 1956 by Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Little Richard, Etta James, B.B. King and others. Where do you Presley got his moves from? He got it from the black artists I named. He was banned from Ed Sullivan's show for his gestures and music because whites thought he was doing "nigger music

  • @tolldoll100 Elvis even stated himself that he use to sit outside the negro churches listening and he would go home and mimmick what had heard.

  • sad they didn't take control of the land like indians did

  • just like developers are changing the face of the gold coast they will eventually change the face of this island that will shift its emphasis with the onslaught of the chequebook

  • wow ..this answered so many questions my grandparent all originate from the carolinas and georgia and all moved to the ny area oneway or another and all our family traditions resembeled west indian cultures but we had no actuel evidence of who we are since grand have past on..thank you

  • It's sad how I've never heard about Gullah culture until now:( They are one of the few African Americans who kept their African culture and traditions.

  • @cuzrock310

I learned about Gullah island via the tv show Gullah Gullah island. Isn't that a shame. Had I not had a child, I probably wouldn't know about Gullah as well.

  • @cuzrock310 What I think it is that people did not want to listen. My mother is Geech/ Gullah. I know my culture and traditions.

  • @cuzrock310 lol, thats exactly why you haven't heard of them

  • Respond to this video... search for this video.................. HEBREW so-called NEGRO? (holocaust jew judiasm slavery african mossad black)

  • This is absolutely beautiful!

It just goes to show when you have pride in yourself and your culture, no matter what you may have to endure, you still stand tall strong and proud! They should fight to preserve their land!

    GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

  • these people are not like the isrealites they dont deny they are descendants of the west african slaves , they are not ashamed of who they are.. unlike some we could mention lol!

  • @oluwalogbon58 These people are a very unique fabric of African American society/culture, and the American govt. should do EVERYTHING to preserve their heritage and culture! It would be worthwhile them appealing to the international heritage society, to try to get some sort of protection, in order to halt development there etc. That's one good thing about Europe, this would definitely be of a cultural importance, and no development would take place there only preservation.

  • oh no! i didnt realize that this culture is being pushed out of the land... I hope it gets preserved! it should be like a reservation, like a gullah reservation.

  • Gulluh Island is kind of like a small Bahia, Brazil.

  • Interesting that you say that ! Black communites like these can be found all throughout the world !

Blacks were brought as slaves to every country in the world !

  • this was great. at first when i saw it was gonna be 15 minutes i said i wasn't going to watch the whole thing. it was so interesting to me that i ended up watching the whole thing and it seemed like it was only 5 minutes.

  • amazing. thanks for the post!

  • with an h galahgulah lol

  • anybody seen gullagulla island its AWESOME!!!!!! lol

  • The NAACP should be promoting and protecting Gullah culture not weary about Don Imus, who cares! Blacks being discriminated against is half the story all that political and social capital give to black leaders and they dont focus on serious issues. I also think if more whites know about this they will help! cause this antipathy is obviously discrimination. Yet Don is the one who lose his job not the local politicians, the city planners or the CEOs who are forcing a ethnocide on Gullah culture?

  • the naacp was created by whites to destroy what was left of the UNIA.the UNIA was run by MARCUS GARVEY who said that he didn't trust web dubois.he had good reason not to.these islands should've been under landmark law.the naacp is not our friend.

  • Exactly ! That is the thing and reason why black people are crumbling ! Black people need to organize and speak up and out and preserve this so the black culture does not die !

  • 2:43 her hair is bea-U-TI-FUL! cannot wait to get my hair like that.

  • Sad.. if something can be exploited for money in the US.. it will be

  • Not at all for education. Preservation. No... For the millions this fifteen minutes documentary pulled-in.

  • yea, her use of the word "us" in that case is erronious

  • its important to keep this culture alive All the famous black celeberties and influence should be rallied up gor the cause.Obama,Oprah

  • shit man, i thought Gulluh was just a children's nickelodeon tv show. this is interesting.

  • i know i didnt know it really existed makes me wonder about binyah polly wogs if they exist.

  • and teletubbies! i swear i saw one once... but i was on shrooms and it was riding a segway for some reason

  • lol

  • im from sierra leone, these are my peopl. thanks for the video

  • im from sierra leone, these are my people

  • As a white guy from Georgia, I'd like to point out that Gullah culture is also a big part of Southern culture. Our histories are entwined and it saddens me to see this important part of not just African-American hiistory, but American history buried under golf courses. No one should allow their heritage and culture to be cast aside, whether your ancestors slept in "the Big House" or a slave cabin.

  • Im truly saddened by that info but what can be done?

  • I love this video

  • beautiful video

  • This is truly the American way. Wipe out a culture and a way of life in order to make a playground for spoiled rich White people.

  • Must be hard walking around with that giant chip on your shoulder.Forgive................ Forgive.......................

    every sin is forgivable

  • agreed.

  • @angel7publications u snatched the words right out of my mouth! I agree

  • @angel7publications why do you gotta say "White" if you know much about gullah culture alot of white people are gullah too lol.Im a South Carolina Gullah Redneck bo

  • @mattotherebel Gullah or Geechee peoples are remnants or descendants of slaves brought in from West Africa. They thrived in those islands because they came from a similar environment and had vast experience growing and harvesting rice. Their language is historically a mixture of broken English and several West Indian French dialects. Please do not try to claim a culture that is not your own. Our culture and heritage is all we have. Being from the region does not mean you can claim the culture.

  • @angel7publications and some rich black people. Money is the god of this world.

  • Gullah people are normal freaking people with a slightly different laugnage amongst themselves, they associate with blacks and whites alike I can assure you, I live on hilton head island, sc where there is a sizable Gullah Community and they are like anyone else.

  • I was told by my great great aunt that I was geechee and to be proud of it.

    A Daughter of the Dust!

  • Is this where the movie "Conrack" was based on?

  • "They have come in not to be part of the community, but to displace the community."

Someone said it earlier ... The more things change, the more things change the same.

  • sweet crown royal hat

  • I spoke with Mrs. Bailey, she is a very nice person, whom helped me and my family a lot. She and her family was very family towards me.

  • if you do not empathiseize with the distruction of a culture by the capitalistic demons of U.S., then YOU are trully the one who is backwards.

  • Thank you for this video. They taxed all of my family "off" of Hilton Head Island. My grandfather held on for as long as he could. We still 100% Gullah no matter where we live!

  • The suggestion that only people of a certain race should be allowed to move into an area is ludicrous.

  • ....I don't get it...

  • Last time I checked, Gullahs don't associate with other Blacks, are very wary of them, and don't mix with big business. They are a proud people, they don't need bigots like you making fun of them.

  • What is bigoted about wanting fast food on an island??? YOU ARE THE BIGOT! GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE RACIST GUTTER YOU PIG!

  • They dont associate with other blacks? U can here the gullah accent in Charleston south carolina and off the coast of Savannah, Georgia. My famiy have Gullah people in it. Thiers a little Native American mix with the culture too and the blood!

  • From what I read about them, they do associate with other blacks, they are wary of them. I read somewhere that they are a very proud, good people, the last of the remaining African culture, in the South, and stick to the roots and always have, even through tough times.

  • U can see the Gullah influence in African-Americans. U can here it in black dialect and the way we express ourselves and dance too. I wished black americans

  • knew the creole language!

  • I'm sick of soulless generic development/suburban sprawl too but losing cultural heritage to gentrification happens.

The one-two of a big check and heavy taxes may close them out and understandably some people will sell out for the check.

  • The cookie cutter mentality of the wealthy is so pathetic.

  • this is such an informative video.

  • gullah creole, offspring of guinea coast creole of West Africa--very much alike--Gullah creole shares the same roots as West Indian creoles--(jamaican patois, etc)

  • If you pause it at 00:43, the guys looks like Big Worm from the movie 'Friday.'

  • The more things change the more they stay the same:(

  • thanx...
