  • Where's Jack Tunney when you need him!

  • 0:57 Most Fake Big Foot ever?

  • 0:35 Andre was FAT.

  • 2 Dave Hepners!!!!! LMFAO

  • The title that andré won was vacated because this refereé was ted Dibiase's twin brother who he payed to get plastic surgery and through in the match while the real ref was subdued backstage.

  • wasnt there an earl hebner also?

  • @acres90 Yep there sure was

  • what was going on at 1:36

  • @SuperArmageddon1 acting...

  • fucking wwe they screwed hulk hoganthat day like bret heart got screwed in montreal thing

  • Comment removed

  • I cursed god that day, and continue to do so today! (jk)

  • 5:13 Is he calling it the World Tag Team Championship? LOL!

  • it was a another referee with plastic surgery

  • I jumped off my couch screaming at the t.v. how could this happen!!!!

  • what a great champion Hogan was, he carried the title with so much pride, back then everything focused on the WWF championship and Hulk was the strongest of all time

  • Man i loved jesse, he was such a professional scumbag

  • I don't get this? Because Hogan's left shoulder was far off the canvas?

  • @itsJackOwens thats because the ref was paid off by DiBiase

  • What was the story behind this? what was the reasoning for the screwjob?

  • @SATAN1KO This was a worked screwjob where Dibiase paid off the ref off to screw Hogan

  • @willisapril but why did they screw Hogan? was there a motive or were they just being jackasses?

  • @SATAN1KO It was all a work the story line was Dibiase came to the WWF after the wrestlemania 3 match and tried to buy the title from Hogan but he refused so he recruited Andre. Hogan had been the champion for 4 years and was taking time off that summer for the birth of his 1st child and agreed to lose the title and the reason for the screw job was to build up Wrestlemania 4 the first time the title was vacant and to have a tournement to crown a new champion

  • "How could there be two Dave Hepner's?" Ventura was the best.....a shame that Cole is trying to be a heel announcer.....he couldn't touch Ventura

  • good ol days of wrestling. Hogan is still the man!!!

  • WHAT .!? WHAT THE FUCK !?!?

    HOGAN WIN .!

  • Notice all of the security that comes out and watches the audience at the railing around ringside. That crowd was peeved lol!!

  • The glory days of the WWF!! You will NEVER see anything like this again. Oh and by the way....WWF!! GET THE E OUT!!!

  • Haha Hogan at 7:25

  • When Hogan wrestled Andre, they always respected Andre for his size and used correct psycology.....when Andre wrestled Warrior, it was like Warrior was working with just another guy.....they didn't give Andre his due.

  • @familyguybro78 You are dead on right. I hated that and turned me from a Warrior fan in the same way that Hogan's always getting over on everyone -- it was over the top. I didn't like the Undertaker either, until he started selling for Mankind big time and then Kane. In the case of Hogan, he never seemed to respect anyone once he became so narcissistic (never put over Savage, Hart, Henning, list is endless.) He had to dominate and it hurt the business overall

  • @bwashinski: What? "hurt the business overall"......Buahahahaha! Vince is now a Billionaire, not Millionaire. The health of the business is doing pretty well. I don't think Hulk Hogan hurt it too much with his contribution.

  • hebner, the master of screwjob officiating

  • This match could have done without the two Hebners. They could have just said that Dibiase paid off Dave Hebner or something.

  • wtf!!

hogan kicks out and he looses!!

    wtf!!

  • Wow, just look at everybody standing up and watching near the end of the match. Talk about hype, and intensity!! I remember this also being a big deal bc this is the 1st time they showed it at 9pm on a Friday.

  • this is so fucking genuis. WWF was one the pulse back in 1988.

  • No matter who wins or loses, the end of the match is predetermined. It's just fun to watch; this type of wrestling is live acting.

  • I was so happy when Hogan lost. I got sick of his schtick around '87.

  • My friend bet a girl he liked at the time a blowjob if hogan lost. She bet thinking hogan will never lose. After the match I left for about 25 minutes and returned to him smiling and her very quiet

  • This was the end of Hogan's 4-year reign.

  • The most watched match in wrestling history. 15.2 rating, 33 million viewers (of a much smaller total viewing audience in 1988 compared to today.)

  • @mongoose704 was it broadcast worldwide or just in America?

  • @mongoose704 still there would have been 250Mill population in 1988 in the USA thats still an impressive audience that wrestling will never see again

  • The single greatest moment in wrestling history. We'll never see anything like this again.

  • andre will go down in history as a former wwe champion

  • @larryjames12 He deserved to. Andre contributed so much to making wrestling as big as it is. This was in part Hogan saying thanks to Andre, but it was also a rub to DiBiase. DiBiase jobbed to Hogan in his first ever WWF match and Hogan was saying thanks.

  • Did Andre ever beat Hogan legitimately?

  • @terminat1

He did at Shea Stadium in 1980 . Dont know about Japan , could have there too

  • IMO, this was a better match than their bout at WrestleMania III!

  • Jesse was the best announcer. "I called it". "Don't ever doubt me again". Wrestling was so much better back when this match happened. The action in the rings is all that was needed to sell the matches. Listen to how the crowd is screaming all through the match. The announcers are so into the match.

  • I totally agree with you. Back then, the wrestlers did whats right for the business (well, some did.) As you mentioned, listen to the crowd, the wrestlers had better ring pyschology back then. They knew how to "work" the crowd back then.

  • I REMEMBER THIS! hogan got screwed just like bret!

  • I think this was the only way that they could get Hogan too drop the belt, I bet they had too pay him one hell of a lot to end a four year reign, there will never be another reign like that

  • has anybody notice that the ref earl hebner always in the big main events?

  • The greatest storyline in WWF history.

  • how did wwe fake this

  • THIS WAS NOT WWE. IT WAS WWF!!!!!

  • Watching the two refs at the end of the match duking it out looked like an old Charlie Chaplin film from the twenties....lol

  • 3:07 is fucking unfair.....

    Hulk Hogan should have wun

  • Comment removed

  • I never thought I'd see this footage. This was an even crazier night than I thought.

  • i remember watching this live.... now of course i see the funny part of it is that one of them is about 50 pounds heavier than the other.... lol

  • Was Vince Russo handling the storylines at this time? I know he created the "Attitude era."

  • This was when wrestling was cool and i thuoght it was all real.

Remember thinking the Milloin dollar Man had payed someone the have plastic surgery when the second Ref came into the ring

  • It is all real. The outcomes are the only think fake.

  • Back when wrestling was real. Classic ending.

I punched my TV that night.

  • Yeah, it's cool, and it was a great set up for Wrestlemania IV. It's just funny to watch the pin. It like: Andre suplexes Hogan and goes for the cover. Referee counts:

    One...

    *Shoulder up*

    Two...

    Three.

  • I remember loving this match. I still love it, but how is it that Andre, at just about a minute in, kicks Hogan in the chest and Andre falls down too? What happened there, did he trip or botch a move or what?

  • Probably a botch, since Andre's back was messed up in RL, and he was in constant pain.

  • I don't EVER wanna hear you doubt me again McMahon

  • Andre the Giant (1946-93) RIP

  • one of the best ending to a match in history. nothing could even touch that today.

  • Absolutely. I remember freaking out as a kid and admiring the genius of the WWF to pull out a twin referee.

  • Ed Sullivan would have said: "A really big shoooow! "

  • Andre suited the belt :)

  • t=1m10s ...Shit, you know why he did that McMahon? lol

  • The Night Andre The Giant officially became Champion!

Who cares if it was a questionable call...Earl Hebner counted three, just like Bret Hart said "I Quit" in 1997.

    Andre beat Hogan....fair and square!

  • That was the setup for Wrestlemania IV. Vince needed something that could top WMIII, and this was the perfect way.

  • Man wrestling isnt what it used to be. It was so easy to get into the story back then and really anticipate a match to see the outcome of the story. Its not like that anymore.

  • too bad andre was never intercontinental champ, he could have been a triple crowner, rip andre

  • thanks for posting. great memories from feb 1998 and no WWE watermarks on the video, either.

  • mother fucker referee

  • asterix vs obelix :D

  • it looks like Montreal screw job Part 1........but obviously is scripted unlike what happened to bret which was real.....

  • But if it is scripted, it's not a screwjob - by your definition they have been countless screwjob in WWF history, just consider the title wins of Slaughter, Undertaker (1), Hogan (4), Flair (5), Yoko (1+2), Hogan (5) etc.

  • thats wht i have written friend, it is scripted hogan new he was booked to loose this match in real, bret did not new he would counted as in reality he was not booked to loose, thats why bret and shawns case is know as "The montreal Screwjob".

  • so if its scripted and hogan knew it it was not a screwjob.

  • dude my point is that wht happened to bret hart with his match against shaun was a real life incident which is popularly known as "the montreal screwjob".

  • actually, that was MY point. Your point was to call this incident "screwjob" which IMHO does not fit at all.

  • Ventura... awesome!

  • "I don't EVER want to hear you doubt me again, McMahon!" Loved Ventura.

  • @bainsey89 mcmahin is money grabbing dick

  • Great memories!!!! This was classic WF!!!!

  • In a real fight an average man could beat Andre the Giant. He is so fat and can barely walk.

  • This is my favorite screwjob.I thought it was hiralous seeing Andre do that suplex.God that was ugly and then that pin.Hoo!Hoo!hoo! It was suspenceful because to see Andre pinned for a second time only to have the ref's back turned.

  • Agreed - underrated screwjob.

  • Great match! This is when wrestling was fun!

  • Classic. I remember this. This led to the tournament at WrestleMania IV.

  • Notice Andre said "world tag team championship" instead of heavyweight the first time he mentioned the title.

  • Almost none of them can. Tom Billington, the Dynamite Kid, could genuinely wrestle. Davey Boy Smith and Bret Hart had some wrestling ability as well. Very few others from that period would have stood any kind of a chance against a real wrestler like Lou Thesz. And today? Nobody at all, I would guess.

  • well O dont think it mattered I mean it was just entertainment but you hit the nail on the head when you said no one from today would stand a chance a gainst a real wrestler

  • Of course, Thesz was an entertainer, too. That's what pro-wrestling IS.

  • Absolutely brilliant television. That the senior ref (who always reffed these matches) actually had a twin brother and one who would agree to do this is perfection. LOVED this. I freaked as a kid watching this. Genius WWF.

  • The twin was actually an NWA referee until literally a week or two before this show.

  • its dave and earl hebner

  • was the highest rated wrestling televised show ever

  • Whatever he should have been disqualified for all those eye-rakes. That's just unacceptable behavior for a champion.

  • The only time Hogan was pinned cleanly to lose the heavyweight title in the WWF was by the Ultimate Warrior

  • I dunno...I think the Yokozuna pin was 'clean'...it's not like the 'cameraman' (aka Harvey Whippleman) was in Yokozuna's corner.

  • true but it was still "outside interference"

  • Regardless, as Bret Hart so rightly said in his book, it was a disgraceful way to do a job.

  • The camera man was Japanese....That seemed like a set up, I mean within the script of course.

  • this is bullshit vince probably bribed the reff its fuked up that wrestling u dont go by replays

  • The first time Hogan "lost" the WWF championship, he didn't really loose it at all. His shoulder was up.
