This is the only american president worth to be remembered all over the world. From Mexico i salute Franklin D. Roosevelt, the only U.S. president who looked for social welfare all over latin america.
Please stop comparing the great Franklin Roosevelt to the disasterous Wall Street puppet who is Obama. FDR would be appauled at the blantant destruction at the hands of the Wall Street asset strippers, be they Bush or Obama.
FDR, despite the retarded Republicans in Congress and the Supreme Court, did his job to the best of his ability, which is why I think he was one of the greatest Presidents, up there with Lincoln and Kennedy. His administration (with the help of another World War) repaired an economy smashed to pieces by deregulation of Wall Street, a fact which shows that American politicians sometimes fail to learn from the past.
@BigBlueBeast name one thing that obama has single handedly done to benefit this country. See what you dont understand is the democrats of yesterday werent crooked and cared about the poor like FDR. Our military was strong and there were jobs opening everywhere because of it. Thanks to everyones favorite bill clinton cutting our military spending is where our economy started to slowly trickle down and bush got the rap for it. So dont but into liberal media blaming republicans for anything.
@sgcnadesf892 i laughed out loud when u attribute :trickel down" to clinton. regan is the god of that thery...not clinton. clinton was in agreement with all the generals and pentagon brass who said the military cuts where justified. we still increase the defence and cut assistance to poor, children, the arts and humanities and give breaks to rich and allow business to dictate regulation to protect them and screw us while poor and middle class folks cant afford heath insurance. doint u see it 2?
F.D.R. was one of hte worst presidents we ever had. His programs kept us in the depression by spending wildly money we did not have. Many of these programs we have still today and they are still bankrupting this nation. How can anyone be proud of a man that broke the American spirit by making us dependent on the government? How can you respect a man that introduced deficit spending, which continues to plague us? He did much to destroy the U.S. and for some reason we praise him.
@aslynelf you are absolutely insane. policies this great man promoted created a middle class in this country. deficit spending concerns are, for the most part by conventional debate, trumped-up bullshit on the part of opposition forces to programs that improve lives, nothing more. the purchasing power of the US dollar can be inflated and deflated with the fed; FDR knew that and money we invested into roads and dams during this era were paid for years later for a fraction of the original cost.
@aslynelf Why don't you just fucking die? Or how about someone sees to it that you do, you lame-ass Republican. This is a FACT: Anyone in favor of giving money to the rich like Bush is WRONG! End of story. If I ever see you, or find out who you are, you're dead.
@aslynelf@aslynelf Why don't you just fucking die? Or how about someone sees to it that you do, you lame-ass Republican. This is a FACT: Anyone in favor of giving money to the rich like Bush is WRONG! End of story. If I ever see you, or find out who you are, you're dead.
@CHCHuser Obama doesn't have to beat him. FDR would stand next and behind Obama supporting him. FDR would look at the rethugs and shake his head and say that they are the true enemy of the people.
What I meant to write was that FDR was a former Assistant Secretary of the Navy, not Secretary of the Navy. Also, in addition to giving the nation some hope during the 1930s, his WPA provided some public works employment. One mistake was to destroy crops in an attempt to raise prices, instead of giving the food to charities.
@huckstered Farmers were losing their farms before he even took office and foreclosures occurred even before he took office and also continued after. The problem then, as now was the level of debt and in that respect history repeats itself. However, what made matters much worse was the dust bowl, not of his making, which swept the nation around 1935, during his first term and the subject of the Grapes of Wrath. To recount history is to put everything in perspective, huckstered.
@rbf100 Oh , yes. The depression began during hoover's adm, thus the term for
armadillos, hoover hogs, in texas. The level of debt is not it-. It is the unempl. rate. The debt level in real dollars now is what it was in the early fities. Roosvelt was
not detrimental to the u.s. Refinancing of farms helped people keep them under FDR through low interest loans and for seed money loaned against next years crop, profits were the collateral. Roosvelt was the peoples champion.
@rbf100 It was not a mistake, you are uninformed. Farmers were getting 2 cents a bale for cotton. Prices equal to the 1600's People were literally starving, small children hired out as field hands had to quit school just to help support the family. Bread lines had run out. There was
no where to go and nothing to eat and no money for anything. The price supports
kept people from starving and put money in peoples hands. There was no money to pay for harvest or shoes, clothes, nothing
@huckstered What seems to be a mistake is that agricultural produce was destroyed in an attempt to reduce supply and raise prices. Produce could have gone to feeding some of the hungry. You are quite correct about the low prices for the crops which I did not mention as a contributor to the foreclosures. It is an example of the deflation of the Great Depression. Much of the world's economy had been ruined by the Great War and the manifestation of it was the Depression.
@rbf100 As I stated, there was the matter of collection and distribution. ou are mistaken if you think you have outreasoned
and outsolved a presidential administration. The logistics of such a notion is just that just a "notion". I am not quite right I am absolutely right , As Europe recovered from the war
and produced cotton the competition steadily dropped prices during the twenties.
That is why, not any ruination of economy. Your ignorance is encyclopedic.
@huckstered As someone whose Father lived in Europe after WWI and recounted his experiences to me and also having read the book titled 1929, it is you who are wrong with respect to the European economies being ruined. The problem was not production by consumption. As far as my comments being generalities, I have included specifics. What makes you the supreme authority? It is you whose ignorance is encyclopedic and besides you are a boor
@rbf100 All you do here is recount what you know as
if you were teaching or as if you knew everything. Daddy, so what? I don't give history lessons on a comments page, as you do. It is funny your info is a skewed through your limited depth of knowledge. The Federal Land Bank aided severely impoverished farmers
who were already standing in relief lines themselves - if they hadn't left with all their possessions heaped on an old truck already by the time of FDR.
@huckstered What better source is there than an eyewitness to the events leading up to and including the Great Depression. The funny thing is that you agree with many of my comments but in some cases expand on them and then accuse me of giving history lesson or being "misinformed." I am not writing a thesis so my comments are not meant to be all inclusive. In many cases you nit pick about what I have written. I am through trading insults with you.
@rbf100 Yes consumption ,demand of farm exports to From the u.s. to Europe declined steadily through the twenties as Europe recovered and began to produce their own goods. Cotton bale, wheat and corn barrel prices dropped
steadily through this time period.Farmers expected prices to remain high
and so mortgaged to the hilt for more acreage and equipment expecting the
high profit years to continue. Soon all was lost even before the depression
At his inauguration in March, 1933 the economy had already hit rock bottom and bumped along the bottom for the rest of that decade. His radio fireside chats gave the nation hope when there had been only despair. As former Secretary of the Navy he was devastated by the attack on Pearl. The stress came from not knowing whether the Allies could defeat the Axis. The Nazi blitzkrieg seemed unstopable and Britain held on by the thinest of threads. Imperial Japan had never been defeated.
@rbf100 The u.s. was unprepared for war and could not defeat the axis. Isolationists had blocked all money approp. for defense and looked extermely stupid and foolish as u.s. senators, they were disgraced. FDR had been warning
for years. Immediate mobilization was required and the u.s. military industrial complex was begun from auto plants . It has been an albatross around our neck ever since as Eisenhower warned it would be in his last speech. FDR already knew . You are uninformed
@huckstered The only branch of the services that was somewhat prepared was the Navy and 1/3 of the Pacific fleet was sunk during the attack on Pearl. Before the attack FDR's hands were tied by the Neutrality Act and isolationist public opinion. However, after the attack the greatest generation rose to the challenge and defeated the Axis but at a terrible cost.
@dbzman1985 No he couldn't "kick" anybodies ass sitting in that wheel chair! the American fighting man KICK the ass of both the nazis and the japs, under the leadership of some of the greatest military leaders this nation ever had, Patton, MacArthur, Halsey, just to nmae a few. Fdr was a true american traitor!
he was the greatest leader the world ever knew who lead America into its golden age and it is sad that he died before he could see us win the war and what his effect his edicts would have.
@historyworm96 You know nothing of history. Let see he sold out all of Eastern Europe to Stalin. Started the Cold War. Increased the national debt and stole many freedoms from the American people. God besided thtat the crippled pig needed to be removed from the as he deserved no credit for winning the War.
@res57 how? "The New Deal didn't restore employment. In fact, there was even less work on average during the New Deal than before FDR took office. Total hours worked per adult, including government employees, were 18% below their 1929 level between 1930-32, but were 23% lower on average during the New Deal (1933-39). Private hours worked were even lower after FDR took office, averaging 27% below their 1929 level, compared to 18% lower between in 1930-32."
Despite some mistakes FDR was a statesman. By comparison most of his successors, with some exceptions were either light weights or incompetents. The stress of the war took a toll on his health. Sad that he never lived to see V-E day one month after his death.
@rbf100 Mistakes he made were all MAJOR! His mishandling of the economy took us from a depression and made it a GREAT depression. Stalin played him for the fool he was at Yalta. He did no fighting during WWII so what stress did he have on him? The only stress he had was hiding his affairs from his wife. What a pig he did not deserve to V-E day and God felt the same!
@TheWilliamcale If you think government made your family's wealth grow you are a fool! Only hard work does that. Govenment only destrys wealth with taxes and social programs. When man is free of over government regulations his wealth will grow through his hard work. You better learn more history, and economics before you make a "foolish" statement like you have here.
If it wasn't for FDR and the like, with their harsh impositions on the liberties of man, with their levelling influence on man's individual talents and ingenuities, we would all be billionaires. The blessings of self-governing Capitalism would be sung with illimitable glorification and exaltation, and the dead-again disciples of the free market would finally flourish under its apotheosis.
this nation would be divided into rich and poor and hand full of white protestant men would run over the rest of us like fuedal barons, un regualted capitalism is no better than the fuedalism that existed before the french revolution
@TheWilliamcale I feel you need to learn far more history, economics and politics, before you make such foolish and baseless statements. Fools like you need to learn the facts before you shoot you mouths off!
@serpentineflame He took rights and freedoms from men. Increased government roll in the private sector and taxed people to the poor house. His foolish ideas on how government and its role have lead to the record deficits we face today with unfunded mandates like social security the TVA farm crop supports and other such un-needed progams that have waited this nations wealth.
Approved fire bombing of German and Japanese cities killing hundereds of thousands of women and children. One of the greatest war criminals in modern history
I have to disagree with this statement! What the Germans did and the Japanese did was far worst then what was done to them! Remeber MacArthur rebuild Japan and became a national hero to them!
Yes the German and Japanese military and gov were bad people. But civilians are not ligitamte targets. What did the fire bombing of Dresden really accomplish?
To tell you a truth my wife is Chinese. They still hate the Japanese for what they did and well they should for what was done to them. But the average Japanese citizen was as much a victim of the war as everyone else. They were not ligitimate targets
Put thousands of americans into concentration camps because of their race. Paid farmers not to grow crops at a time when americans were starving and look for work.
You are correct in your statements! People forget those things when the press lied for you and certain historian created lies and half truths to prop up a failed president and his failed programs!
LOL. Check the unemployment statistics under this president. He brought them down his first year. Um, then they rose year after year. Hoover's make-work jobs increased unemployment. FDR's make-work jobs cured this... temporarily. Then they took us back up over 20% unemployment in 1936. Check the numbers. His own party wanted him out, but he was too popular. That is why the democrats passed the term limits on presidents. Read the book "New Deal Raw Deal."
1938 Agricultural Adjustment Act Continued price supports and payments to (AAA) farmers to limit production, as in 1933 act, but replaced processing tax with direct federal payment.

The only people who liked Roosevelt were people who weren't japanese, had gold, a supreme court justice, liked not passing laws against the constitution or didn't like inflation.
One of the things that contributed to FDR's greatness was his skill as an orator, probably unequaled by any President before or since with the possible exception of Lincoln.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt did a poor job of dealing with Stalin. He sold out Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania and all of the "Eastern Bloc" countries. He ordered the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki even after the Japanese were surrendering.
maybe next time you'll check extremely basic historical facts of the second world war before speaking out of your ass and defiling the greatest president in u.s. history.
Well, for some one who thinks they know history you are WRONG! He only authorised the use of the "bomb!" MacArthur and LeMay gave the order! Still need to read more little boy!
As I can tell you are dirty mouth little child! Also I can tell you have no military experience, as there is a difference between authorised and ordered. Need to read "Mr. Webster" a little more often! Truman only authoried the use of the bomb and never gave any order to drop it. You better learn what words mean!
You fail at the use of syntex, my fouled mouth child. For someone who see themselves as a "great mind," you fail! Again Truman never gave an order, only authorized the use of the bomb! And I was not taking it out of context, you fail to understand the meaning of works and that they mean different things!
Hate to break it to you, you foul mouth liberal, but I understand far more then you ever will. RESPECT is something you better learn or the world will eat you alive. If anyone does not understand the situation it is you! There is a difference between authorized and ordered!
Well, well, well, what a witty comment. With everyone of your replies you have shown me just how little you know and just how childish and worthless you are. Just mad cause I have proven you wrong and you can't take it!
It doesn't matter who ordered the bombs, the important part is that they were dropped. Those bombs ended the war almost a year early and, even though the US intentinally killed (some may substitute "murdered" for "killed") almost 300,000 civilians in the prosess, They saved an estimated 1 million US troops, 2 million Japanese troops, and millions of Jap civilians. And about radiation poisoning, no one considered that. They thought anyone who died from radiation would be hit by a brick first.
Not necessarily true actually. The atomic bomb was not necessary in the fact that the fire raids on Tokyo killed more people then both nuclear explosions put together. There was the technology to win the war without requiring heavy civilian loss, Truman had just panicked in the sudden death of Roosevelt. The radiation, however, would kill generations of Japanese to come, which is why the nuclear bombs were unnecessary. Not to mention that the use of the nukes resulted in a full on cold war.
Removing all the posting you have done that showed just how BIG a fool you are. If you knew any thing at all you would take courses in both English and for sure 20th century History. Never seen seen so much crap in my life!
No. Posting on separate accounts to look cool is foolish. Maybe if you educated yourself you would see how much of a prick you are. Go read "The United States and the Origins of the Cold War 1941-1947" by John Lewis Gaddis, "The Cold War: A New History" also by Gaddis, "The Cold War" by Mike Sewell. You obviously have no idea what you're talking about and use unintelligent insults as a way to show your palpable bigotry.
I don't know what the hell you are talking about you little prick. I hold a Degree in History, in this era. I don't to read any book that some snot nosed little uneducated puck like you would suggest! No you are the one who has no idea of what you are talking about! If any one needs to be educated it is you.
You sure flatter yourself! I am far better educated then you and do not need to read such elementary books on the subject of the Cold War as you suggested. I have a far better understanding of the subject then you. I have read more and have taken more course dealing with the subject then you ever will. I believe your whole problem is you can not take criticism. You are the one who needs to get an education, as reading a few books and taking only high school history courses do not cut it!
So removing all your posting where you make an ass out of yourself, is some how cool? Well, a lot of other people have read them and know how little knowledge you have on any historical subject. By removing them you only showed just how weak you position was! But, you are a child and for sure you behave like one as well. Can't prove anything so you just lie about it, that's a real historian for you, lol.
@Lore022092 Hey little boy, I see you still have no guts! Hows that high school honors history working for you. When are you going to learn the real history or are you just going to remove you uneducated posts. Still hiding out little boy, LOL!
I disagree with your statement that dropping the bomb was not necessary. The bomb saved over 1,000,000 Allied lives as well over 3,000,000 Japanese lives, military and civilian. The bomb was a must! What weapons or technology did we have that could have ended the war quickly? Also Truman did not "panick." He was overwhelmed! Also Yalta, was the biggest reason why the Cold War was entered into its fullest. I can tell you have limited knowledge of military matters or political history as well.
Of course this what we are all taught in school and people parrot back. We have all created this myth about the Japanese. Please read a little Japanese history. The entire history is of wars one side loosing and another side accepting total defeat. During these periods emperors were taken prisoner, replaced, executed and ruling emperors forced to live in poverty. The period before this was called the Meijii restoration for a reason. The bomb was dropped to show the USSR what we would do
Thanks "BigBillClinton." Yes we do need more education on the history of the Far East. I find Japanese history to be a very fascinating subject. Have read and study the History of Japan for many years as well as other countries of the Far East. The Japanese are a very proud people who are very misunderstood in the West.
@BigBillClinton : The US embargoed scrap metal and oil that Japan desperate needed and there is still debate by legitimate historians as to what FDR knew and when he knew it. It's clear that the US knew that provoking the Japanese like that would cause a reaction. Remember Truman dropped the bombs not FDR, whether or not we used them as a scare tactic or not again is still up for debate.
I agree, that the use of the bomb shortened the War and saved millions of lives on both sides. But what must be kept in mind is that the Japanese started the War, on a Sunday morning in 1941. As the Japanses gave no quarter it was felt, and rightly so that none should be given to them. You are very correct when you stated that radiation poisoning was not considered. Thats a very good point and is often ignored
Wrong. The Japanese didn't start the "war." The war was already in progress in Europe. The Japanese brought the United States into the war, which may have then brought the title of "World War". If you ask me, some of the biggest mistakes in history have come from being overwhelmed. The use of the atomic bomb was one of them. Have you ever asked yourself whether FDR would have used the atomic bomb had he still been alive? There was a reason why he kept it as a secret.
I hate to break it to you but 1931 is considered the starting point of WWII. As almost every reliable historian would back me on that one. So I guess the load of bullshit is on you.
I have the proof on my side. Again your historic knowledge is limited and seems to be very Euroscentric. Also your lacking of knowldge on Eastern cultures is amazing. So this leads to your lack of understanding in the use of the bomb on Japan. The West was only part of the War.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Your incompetence to understand the context of the origins of World War II is incomprehensible. If I'm not mistaken, It was GERMANY who had been most impacted by World War I and it was they who were sanctioned into a state of economic, political and social crisis. This had been going on long before World War II and thus the bulk of the conflict was started by Germany way before 1931. The Japanese would not have expanded as far as they did without the strong presence of the German Reich.
You are the incompetent one. You have no knowledge of the subject. Your rambling answers shows me and others just how little understanding you have on the subject. I know where it started and your foolish posts just proves to me and others your total lack of education and knowledge of the subject. And as far as a load of BS, I can tell it hit you right in your face.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Your points are invalid as Japan was NOT the reason why the atomic bomb was created. It was from perpetual fear that Germany was also creating the atomic bomb, to which they had been very close to doing in the later parts of the war. Thus the atomic bombs intention was towards Germany, NOT Japan. Fighting about who started the war has nothing to do with the issue at hand.
It seems you have no idea of what you are posting about . You post off subject and change the debate to suit your invalid answers . You most have ADD or some other mental problem. You are a perfect example of what is wrong with the public education system today. You are the one who started the debate on who started the WWII and where it started. So changing the subject to suit you does not make you right as it shows weakness in your knowledge and ability to debate the topic.
What, no responce from your incompetent brain. Or did you just run and hide like you did when others proved you wrong, like you usually do? Or are going to remove all your dumb ass postings like you did to others? You are a fool and your lack of historical knowledge proves it.
I see you to have also taken on that little pussy boy! Don't be surprised if the little magot removes all his post to cover his lies. He is an uneducated piece of crap who knows nothing of this Nations history and only knows how to repeat the ignorance he was taught in public schools, you know a mind numbed robot liberal!
@hiya502 I can tell you know little or nothing of history, like all you crppled pig worshippers, especially about WWII era. At 22 your knowledge at best is limited. So expand your reading list and do some research and you might learn something that will surprise you. Why don't you start by reading "New Deal or Raw Deal!" You might learn the truth about our history.
@ardenspanzers Do you know history?, Obviously not. The start of WW2 was when Germany invaded Poland. Germany allied Japan in 1935, four years before WW2 started. Before they allied Japan was a lone country fighting for their own beliefs. So lets see, I am the idiot? You obviously have no clue what you are talking and have no historical skills what so ever. You need to read a book. I suggest Dr. Seuss.
Einstein himself stated that one of his biggest regrets was that he had helped create the atomic bomb. Do you realize that through its use it began an arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union? There was more then enough technology to deal with the already overstretched Japanese Empire without using the atomic bombs. And don't even try to say that i have limited knowledge on the matter just because you don't agree with me. That's just stupid.
So what technolgy are talking about? It is common knowledge about Einstiens feelings. There were many others who built the bomb who had a greater part then Einstein. And you are showing limited knowledge on the subject, as you have fail to provide what technology. Answer please.
Maybe if you had actually read my post earlier on the fire bombing of tokyo that killed more people then both nuclear bombs combined, then maybe you would know what I'm talking about.
Fire bombing was failing to break the Japanese. And this "tech" was not able to break them. Fire bombing had been going on since very early 1945. The U.S. and our allies realized that something more powerful was needed. So the use of bomb was needed. So if that's you have offer, it's not much.
Don't get me wrong, there were other issues that dealt with the occurrence of the Cold War, such as that of the partitioning of Germany, the Soviet post war spheres of influence and capitalist/communist conflict. However, the atomic bomb did not help any of this in the aftermath of the Second World War which cannot be denied.
Well, well well, just a typo and you have a fit! Well, the truth is I have tacked your foul mouthed little back side to the wall with facts you can disprove. And you still do not know the proper use of works or syntex, for this you get an F just like the new word you have only recently learned!
Well then mouth disprove them! You are the who fails to use proper grammar. No you are the true failure as all you can do is call me childish names and acted like a little baby! As you have made no attempts to disprove anything I have stated, you are only showing just how sore of a LOSER you are! Cause if you had any facts, like do and then I disproved your false statements. You have no facts or proof, you are the real loser, and an ill-manned child!
Not to old at all my little foul mouth child. fdr was referred to that by a number of people including Col Robert McCormick! Showing me just how little you really know about history of this period! So no proof as usual!
You are so gutless. Removed all my comments. Well, what could you expect from a liberal, who are known to censor or limit free speech and especially when its the truth. But, again still waiting for that so called "proof" you have. Must be still look through those limited research resourse you have! You pull this in college and the Prof will eat you alive. Your grade will be an "F" for failure, not f%$@ like you thing, which you are, failure!
Also where in then hell is all this proof you kept crowing about? You called me a lier with out presenting a single bit of proof. Your actions are those of a child and a child you will always be, LOL!
The is no day in American history happier than the day FDR was wheeled up the disabled access ramp to the gates of hell.
My we post a perpetual military guard at those gates to prevent his escape.
May the memory of his deceit, connivance and destruction of the United States, its peace and its economy ever be forgotten.

What I meant to write was that FDR was a former Assistant Secretary of the Navy, not Secretary of the Navy. Also, in addition to giving the nation some hope during the 1930s, his WPA provided some public works employment. One mistake was to destroy crops in an attempt to raise prices, instead of giving the food to charities.
rbf100 1 year ago
@rbf100 Farmers across the nation were starving too, losing farms
and becoming homeless too. On a huge scale. You need to stop writing if you know nothing.
huckstered 1 year ago
@huckstered Farmers were losing their farms before he even took office and foreclosures occurred even before he took office and also continued after. The problem then, as now was the level of debt and in that respect history repeats itself. However, what made matters much worse was the dust bowl, not of his making, which swept the nation around 1935, during his first term and the subject of the Grapes of Wrath. To recount history is to put everything in perspective, huckstered.
rbf100 1 year ago
@rbf100 Oh , yes. The depression began during hoover's adm, thus the term for
armadillos, hoover hogs, in texas. The level of debt is not it-. It is the unempl. rate. The debt level in real dollars now is what it was in the early fities. Roosvelt was
not detrimental to the u.s. Refinancing of farms helped people keep them under FDR through low interest loans and for seed money loaned against next years crop, profits were the collateral. Roosvelt was the peoples champion.
huckstered 1 year ago
@rbf100 It was not a mistake, you are uninformed. Farmers were getting 2 cents a bale for cotton. Prices equal to the 1600's People were literally starving, small children hired out as field hands had to quit school just to help support the family. Bread lines had run out. There was
no where to go and nothing to eat and no money for anything. The price supports
kept people from starving and put money in peoples hands. There was no money to pay for harvest or shoes, clothes, nothing
huckstered 1 year ago
@huckstered What seems to be a mistake is that agricultural produce was destroyed in an attempt to reduce supply and raise prices. Produce could have gone to feeding some of the hungry. You are quite correct about the low prices for the crops which I did not mention as a contributor to the foreclosures. It is an example of the deflation of the Great Depression. Much of the world's economy had been ruined by the Great War and the manifestation of it was the Depression.

who were already standing in relief lines themselves - if they hadn't left with all their possessions heaped on an old truck already by the time of FDR.

Soon all was lost even before the depression
began. The depression was the coup de gras.

Imperial Japan had never been defeated.
rbf100 1 year ago
@rbf100 The u.s. was unprepared for war and could not defeat the axis. Isolationists had blocked all money approp. for defense and looked extermely stupid and foolish as u.s. senators, they were disgraced. FDR had been warning
for years. Immediate mobilization was required and the u.s. military industrial complex was begun from auto plants . It has been an albatross around our neck ever since as Eisenhower warned it would be in his last speech. FDR already knew . You are uninformed
huckstered 1 year ago
@huckstered The only branch of the services that was somewhat prepared was the Navy and 1/3 of the Pacific fleet was sunk during the attack on Pearl. Before the attack FDR's hands were tied by the Neutrality Act and isolationist public opinion. However, after the attack the greatest generation rose to the challenge and defeated the Axis but at a terrible cost.

jimymax58 2 years ago
It doesn't matter who ordered the bombs, the important part is that they were dropped. Those bombs ended the war almost a year early and, even though the US intentinally killed (some may substitute "murdered" for "killed") almost 300,000 civilians in the prosess, They saved an estimated 1 million US troops, 2 million Japanese troops, and millions of Jap civilians. And about radiation poisoning, no one considered that. They thought anyone who died from radiation would be hit by a brick first.
warman1944 2 years ago
Not necessarily true actually. The atomic bomb was not necessary in the fact that the fire raids on Tokyo killed more people then both nuclear explosions put together. There was the technology to win the war without requiring heavy civilian loss, Truman had just panicked in the sudden death of Roosevelt. The radiation, however, would kill generations of Japanese to come, which is why the nuclear bombs were unnecessary. Not to mention that the use of the nukes resulted in a full on cold war.

@BigBillClinton : The US embargoed scrap metal and oil that Japan desperate needed and there is still debate by legitimate historians as to what FDR knew and when he knew it. It's clear that the US knew that provoking the Japanese like that would cause a reaction. Remember Truman dropped the bombs not FDR, whether or not we used them as a scare tactic or not again is still up for debate.
youmepolitics 1 year ago
I agree, that the use of the bomb shortened the War and saved millions of lives on both sides. But what must be kept in mind is that the Japanese started the War, on a Sunday morning in 1941. As the Japanses gave no quarter it was felt, and rightly so that none should be given to them. You are very correct when you stated that radiation poisoning was not considered. Thats a very good point and is often ignored
ardenspanzers 2 years ago

Lore022092 2 years ago

Four points to prove your limited knowledge of this periods history.
1 Japan invaded Manchuria in 1931. Hitler did not come to power till 1933.

3 Mussolini was considered to the bigger threat then Hitler
4 Hitler had no knowledge of Japans plans for Perarl Harbor and really didnt care what he thought
So you are wrong once again. You show just how limited you knowlegde is and how Euroscentric your limited view is.

Lore022092 2 years ago

Fire bombing was failing to break the Japanese. And this "tech" was not able to break them. Fire bombing had been going on since very early 1945. The U.S. and our allies realized that something more powerful was needed. So the use of bomb was needed. So if that's you have offer, it's not much.

Don't get me wrong, there were other issues that dealt with the occurrence of the Cold War, such as that of the partitioning of Germany, the Soviet post war spheres of influence and capitalist/communist conflict. However, the atomic bomb did not help any of this in the aftermath of the Second World War which cannot be denied.

Well from your posting you made it sound like the bomb was the soul reason!

No, I was just stressing the importance that the atomic bomb had on the seriousness of the Cold War.

Your post did make it sound like the bomb was the only reason. But, you later posting did explain your position in total.
