Im from Flanagan high school. This is a very good routine. And stop worrying about the weight of the rifles...just worry about who can use them better. Like Flanagan.
We use 9.5lb m1903 drill rifles usually. Sometimes demilitarized M1's. Yes they have to be using the 4 pound rifles or something. Impressive nonetheless.
Our drill team is all first-year cadets, except for two:The CO and ExO. And the CO is a senior. And once he leaves we are without leadership. We have gotten 6th place out of 7 at all of our drill meets so far. Not so good. haha
We have a few seniors and a battalion commander over all. I'm a new cadet myself, and so far, we can't get our allignment right. We've been getting 3rd, 2nd and 4th. But thats about it.
We march in step but it is sloppy. And we just started learning exhibition and that will help us out. We only have a company. Not even close to a battalion. Haha
I wish I could have know Chief... Sounded like a cool guy. He is at Winter Park... He should come back and help us out again. We aren't doing too well right now...
I am on this year's and was on last year's drill teams. Last year was okay, not the best. Less intricate than that of 2004 or 2008. And we aren't getting many people out this year... The leaders and a few of the returning cadets and that is about it.
Actually Lake Howells rifles are about a good 10-15 pounds...you people don't even know what your talking about...
I would know. I spin them every day. You just have to build up muscle memory.

my school drill team braddock uses 15lb demilitarized m1's
twinkay321 3 years ago
M1's are 12 lbs not 15, they do not make 15 lb M1's, Period.

lol m1s are 9.5lbs

naa we use 14 lb m1 so dream on you wish you were as good as we are
TrowaaEX 3 years ago
They're using lighter rifles than we use. We have to use demilitirized M1 garands, those make your arms sore. But they're definitely better than us

True, I wouldn't mind seeing one of their competitions
Zaku1234567 3 years ago
Our team sucks so bad though we couldn't do anything like that with any rifles. lol
fartheadguyxx 3 years ago
We're ok. But this year we haven't done so well like we usually do. I think its because some of our members were kicked from drill.

I just came back from a competition over in Sedalia, MO. We got 2nd place overall but the drive back to home was dreadful lol
Zaku1234567 3 years ago
no they can't be..in order to compete at nationals their rifles have to be demilitarized and weight at least 8 lbs.
and theres no such thing as a 14 lb m1
ClarkArmedDrill 3 years ago
I was thinking the same thing (about the 14 lb M1). A 14 lb M60 maybe. Lol

Yeah... It looked great then. Not quite so much now...
I'm on the drill teams there... I wish we could have an epic performance like this all over again. It would put all other schools in their place.
