  • Kantouben, not Tokyoben.

  • @brendanraymond i have heard osaka people call it osaka ben and kansai ben and tokyo people call theirs kanto and tokyoben

  • uggggh i wana move to japan can you please tell me the step by step process on how you did it

  • Ah Japan the most xenophobic country in the world.

  • Soooo one ,ok, two words - Love u. . .You explained everything that interests me. . .Now I have to wait two years to take the test in the Japanese Embassy , because I want to study in Japan. . .and it is my only chance to go there. . .Ticket is very expensive, especially for someone from southern Europe. . .

    soooooo THANK U for all this videos . . so,so,sooo much. . .

are you still in Japan? :)

  • So is thay the common job for Americans when they go to Japan? Teach English?

  • I really wonder, how can you afford to live in Japan when you're working as an English teacher and have to pay 1200$ a month in rent? Isn't about time to purchase a house?

  • ouch man, you had a HORRIBLE experience with NOVA, damn!!!!!

  • Wow, amayzing, it was wery interesting and informative, respect :) If you can answer, how long did it take to you to find new apartment? After first salary?

  • How long were you in classes to do your job

  • oops o.o ignore that comment xD

  • jApan life

  • What is the work you are doing or where doing when you came to Japan? Was that a english teaching or something?

    What do you work nowdays?

  • i enjoyed the vid iama subscribe

  • Really intriguing story teller. I enjoyed!

  • So helpful! Thank you!

  • Bro am an american whose native language is spanish but i been here ever since i was a baby pretty much lol .. ive been obsessed with japan for mostly my entire life.. is my dream to move there .. am currently in college so maybe in 3 years i could go teach english .. but my question was .. could i also teach spanish over there .. have you met any spanish speaking people in japan ???

  • props for sticking through it

  • Awesome

  • i am not english mother language .. so some times i experienced a lof of difficulties understanding what a person is saying in a blog ..

but .. let me tell the truth .. i notice u are a teacher .. ur english is clean and with good speed .. i really get all u sad ..

that's not common to find people who speak english like that

  • nice video man !

  • wtf is nova?

  • Great video! I think for many people, they set high expectations and/or had already drew a painting of how Japan is, thinking it's like heaven on earth or somethin...but when they realize it's not, they bash at Japan. You're absolutely right! Like anywhere else, Japan has it's pros and cons.

  • Good video and smart comments.

I don't typically comment on videos but, Life in Japan is a soft spot for me. Having lived there a few years ago, being back in America for about 5 years I"m still in contact with friends and have even been back for visits. I'm just wondering when I"m moving back.

What is your experience with friends that have left Japan and are thinking about returning ? Do you know folks that have returned and how are they doing ??

    Thanks again !

  • @TrueIntuition i do still keep in contact with some who left. as you may know i came over during the big nova crash so i lost loads of friends. it sucked because we use to have some really great nights out here and now i have really only one gaijin friend. almost everyone i know who has left regrets leaving. although a few didnt make it past a month or even a week and abhor japan.

  • where abouts in japan did you lived Truelntuition?

  • thanks i am glad you enjoyed this video...so wait are you japanese?

  • i have heard that in japan there is a day when people normally put out things for recycling like TVs etc (the stuff you normally give to charity) and that you can go round and talk what you want...is this true

  • well yes and no. it all depends on where you live. i.e. in big city areas pretty much anything can go out on any day and almost nothing is sectioned off for certian days.

but the farther removed you get from that the truer your comment becomes. and yeah its totally ok to dumpster dive. some people make a living off it here.

  • Seriously one of the best realistic and informative video I've watched about coming to Japan. I myself had the idea of going to Japan to teach english or french after my Japanese studies (in two years) and that gives me very good info ~ Thank you very much for these JFAQ videos. I subscribe ! \m/

  • glad to hear. its the reason i make them.

  • Great video, man!

I am Japanese but even I can enjoy the video and it reminded me of first arriving in New Brunswick Canada!

  • thanks for your feedback on my vids. i always appreciate natives of japan commenting as well since i dont get to hear their opinion as much on my vids. hope you have a safe trip back to japan.

  • Excellent, thoughtful commentary.

  • i glad that everything worked out in the end. and that you were able to embrace the country and finally got to do what you came to japan for.

    keep up the hard work!

    keep recording & posting!

  • woah u have HUGE hole in ur ear.

    Never noticed it.

  • Just found your videos and have been working my way through your FAQs. Respect to you for having such an understanding of the Japanese culture. I'm half Japanese half gaijin and I've lived both in Japan and in the west and it drives me nuts to meet gaijin who have spent significant time in Japan and still have no clue about the culture.

Maybe you've covered this in your other vids but how long have you been in Japan?

  • thanks for watching. been here 3 years now:)

  • How big is a futon?

  • about 175cm

  • oh man, that will suck so bad....

i think it was jason (myargonauts) that said that door openings were like 190 high.

    tiny lol

  • man i wanna move there so bad....all my money would be wasted on booze and pachinko lol. thanks for making such a great FAQ

  • I'm newly subscribe to your channel and just want to let you know that you give out great information that is straight forward and to the point. Thanks!

I got one question... You might of answered this before in a earlier video but what is your reason for wanting to permanently reside in Japan?

  • thanks for watching. yeah i am going to be answering that soon!

  • Do you still like it in japan, unrested?

  • love it

  • The new camera has a nice picture quality.

  • thanks yeah i am really happy with it too

  • I didn't knew that the Japanese language is a bit different ib Osaka and Tokyo until I saw your videos. I've learn a lot by watching you. You should write a book .

  • people have told me this before...i suck at writing though lol.

  • ur the man! i wanna move to osaka...screw this tokyo stuff, ur honeymoon was 1 month..damn. MAUAHAHAAAAAA

  • were ready for you whenever man. just let us know when you are moving!

  • Wait what! That's sick! You didn't know they spoke kansai-ben?! Must've been confusing!

Well the best comedians comes from this area where they speak kansai-ben so it must be pretty interesting too~

I've been told that even if you ask to repeat slowly in Japanese they'll forget what they say and/or will just not repeat nor slow down.. Did that happen often to you?

  • yeah now i love mansai and the comedy, but god is that repeating thing totally true. i heard gimmeaflakeman say the same thing and its a fact. it drives me insane. every time they just ignore you asked them to repeat things and come up with a whole new sentence lol.

  • Oh gosh so it's totally true, I thought GABM was kidding about, and that my friend who told me that was just not good enough at Japanese(well he was obviously not good enough XD). Well thanks for the swift answer~

  • Thanks for the heads up!

  • can you elaborate more on the tokyo-ben and osaka-ben ? i don't really understand .

but i love your videos , i found out about you yesterday and i basically stayed up all night watching like 50 of your vids ;)

  • whoa all night? well thanks!

ok so those two are dialects. i.e. in osaka people use the word mecha for Very or Really but in okinawa-ben they would say Deiji or in tokyo-ben they would more likely use totemo.

  • I like how you don't mask anything about japan. You are straight forward about it and that's cool.

  • thanks yeah i just want people to know what they are getting into if they thinking about or planning to move here.

  • The whole Kansaiben and Tokyoben got me worried >__>

Should I continue learning what I am?

  • all depends on where you want to live in japan.

  • Yeah, this language is complex to some degree. All I can say is learn Vocabulary first then go into grammer.

I love the fact we're out side and in the world and not in your living room!

    Keep it up!

  • its got to take a lot longer then just 4 months, 2 years and you might be a little ready but even then its still going to be hard i imagine. it took me around a month and a half of daily practice just to learn hiragana and katakana

  • wow, i didn´t recognized you with the short hair.

I am enjoying your videos. Keep it on. =)

I am also searching for videos with tips to pass a few weeks not spending too much, the less money as possible to sleep and eat.

  • Interesting and helpful, as always. Thanks, dude..

  • I guess the man at the end with a green hat was trying to hide is face :) btw even I have never been to Japan, I love watching your videos. I have been to china and faced similiar hardships but I have to admit it is just amazing experiencing a culture or a language shock:) and of course respect that i guess this is what you call a " self-made man".

  • Is your girlfriend also gaijin ?

  • Nice vid.

  • Great video. I had no idea about the lack of street signage. Thats good to know in advance.

And only one suitcase!? Not that I'd bring crazy amounts of stuff, but thats pretty hardcore.

  • One of my favorite videos bro :)

  • this was great

  • cool video!

  • awesome video, great info, ill be their in 2 months :)

  • gratz man! where will you be living?

  • I'm leaving around Oct 20th and ill be living with my in-laws in Nagoya for awhile until we get settled and find a place in Tokyo. CANT WAIT!!

  • you should say hi to daichen and gimmeaflakeman! good luck on your journey.

  • Awesome vid~

  • GREAT VID SCOT

    5 Stars!

  • one more thing i know japanese people wear that thing over theyre mouth like when they sick or whatever but is that the only reason like that guy at the end why was weaaring it and riding a bike??

  • ppl wear those masks when there's a flu or something going around or if they're sick to keep other from catching it.

Hope this helps a little! ^_^

  • where is sasuke you know that big ass obstacle court they called it ninja worrior here have you ever seen it or want to try it out??

  • no idea what that is sorry.

  • Its in Yokohama~ near Tokyo.

  • Very, very interesting. 5 stars!! I hope you`ll do these kind of videos more.

  • dude thanks uploading this,

    it helped alote!

    5/5 =] and fav'ed

  • very nice vid =)

  • interesting ^_^ video

thought it sucked how nova was acting

i am going also to move to japan after 3 weeks :) and i think it will be the happiest thing in my life like it was for you :P

  • yeah the president of nova, saruhashi, is just morally debase and evil to the core without a doubt. still, my fellow teachers were quite nice. i really feel bad for alot of them. alot of dreams were crushed when they fell.

  • very nice vid :d

  • dude the guy on the bike must think your weard sitting there talking to a camra lol

  • camera. no camera. japanese always think i am weird lol.

  • lmao thats a little mean lol

  • do they call you kowai? hehe

  • yeah sometimes i hear it lol.

  • It's interesting how different dialects can be. I went to Italy last year and silly me I thought because I could understand the Italian that my grandparents had taught me (which is Marche dialect) I'd be able to understand basically any Italian that I would encounter. I was so wrong. The Italian that I did come across might as well have been Spanish for all I understood! Fascinating FAQ!!

  • Just wanted to thank you for the vlogs you've made up until now! Seriously great and informative. Kudos to you on wanting to stay there for good. I recommend anyone who wants to go to Japan for any reason to check your vlogs out before they go. cheers!

  • hey man,

I got a quick question. not this video related.

I am going back to Canada on August 24th, and I am looking for gift items to take back. Do u know a good and fairly cheap place in Osaka, where I can get gift items?

For example Japanese t-shirts that are less then 1000yen, or like nicely packeted green tea.

BTW, u are right about slowing down your english when u are teaching. I faced the same thing.

    Thanks

  • there is a store in shinosaka station that has cheap gift items perfect for that.

  • I think I know what u are talking about. I believe they have a shuttle bus service to the bargain mall from the shin-osaka station.

  • Just wondering: When you first got to Japan how did you end up finding your way around anywhere? It seems like it would be really scary to not be able to read streets signs and end up getting lost....then you wouldn't even know how to ask people the way back =/

  • always brought my english/japanese dictionary with me.
