A lot of people said he died not in the fire, also he was not harmed by the crash, he died because of the asphyxiation!

I just can say, i hope one of my friends would be great as David Purley..... then I'am fine till the rest of my life, cause i know theres someone watching for me.......

Just to clarify, the cars that passed the site of the accident did so because the pilots assumed that it was Purley who crashed in the first place and, afterr safely getting out, was trying to extinguish his own car. The fire marshalls were useless though.

Actually, there was an inquiry after the race to investigate the behavior of the people who didn't help Purley, but they were all cleared of charges because the temperature around the car was over 1000°C.

When the others did try to get next to the car, they were driven back by the high temperature. Have you tried walking up to a blazing race fuel fire? I am a motorsport lover who was only 6 years old when this happened. my dad (who wasrallying before i was a thought inhis head) told me that until the late 70s all marshalls had no fireproof overalls & almost no direction from the GP organisers.

i just want to set the record straight for those under 40 that marshalls were incredibly brave people who did a job in unbelievably hard circumstances that we would find hard to comprehend.
