  • doyle dykes gave me his guitar pick for free while i was in church with him.

  • To mrguru182 and tonybengtsson. Doyle dykes got this good by practising a lot but God has also helped him cause this is Gods plan for his life. However you tony.... got good thru practise alone and by the way mr guru is right why do athiest use the word hell if you dont believe in it especially when athiests tell someone to go to hell.

  • @416234765 Dude.... he got good by practicing, fuck God

  • Maan, I'd put my face in a hover-mower to just be able to play this tune like this. dykesy, you are an inspiration. god bless you my friend :))))

  • sige na ikaw na.:D

  • brrriiiiiiiiillllliant!!!!!

  • what a blessing my small church had for him to come to our tiny church!

my head was blown off by this guy!!

  • Doyle Dykes should be a household name. He and Tommy Emmanuel are the best. They don't just play the notes, the play with all their heart, and really know how to turn a phrase, caress a note.

    Gorgeous playing !

  • I didn't know this type of music still exists.

    Take a bow Doyle.

  • I never thought an old man could give me an erection

  • my dad is obsessed with this

  • That is AWESOME

  • Amazing

  • This Man has truly been blessed by God.....such a talent...

  • @ronftlvr Amen. I'd love to play that...Maybe God will bless me too lol

  • 1 of nicest blokes i have ever met

  • Wow.

  • does anyone know what tuning this is in?

  • @gr4yhound D G D G A D

  • @RondoGuitarDude Is it not DADGAD?

  • @5K1NN1T No, but that was very good guess. It is actually DGDGAD (Open G). It is a great tuning, and it is a great way to sort of give yourself a head-start if you want to learn 5-string Banjo but don't own one yet!

  • After hearing that I want to throw my guitar out the back door. That was awesome and can't wait to check out his other stuff! This is why youtube is great........WOW!

  • @sledgeguitar lol i was thinking the same thing

  • Doyle Dykes is the best Acoustic Guitarist i ever heard "T...h...e B...e...s..t ".The first time i heard him play was at Harvest Christain Fellowship ,He was touring the "Hurricane Earthquakes and Tomatoes " .I love his playing so much i went and bought his CD.I love that CD.......................Buy the way Doyle ,somone one had to steel that CD....and it had to be one of my favorites.

  • Athiests don't believe in heaven so why do use Hell as an expletive. You can"t have it both ways you jealous mediocre' good" guitar player. Some things are above you ,So go whine in some corner and be insulted as much as you like. Doyle is gi

    fted period.....

  • What the hell has god got to do with talented musicians?? I worked hard at becoming a good guitarist and I'm an Athiest. I consider it an insult that anyone would give credit to all my hard work to some deity.

  • wow, what a fantastic guitar player. i dont like country music at all, but this guy had me from the first couple of notes he played. absolutely amazing. i have never heard of this guy till today. im glad i stumbled upon this gem!

  • Awesome.....

  • At the begining I thought he wanted to play sweet home albama

  • i've been in the room with Doyle, and there was an unmistakable "presence" in the room that you cant explain.

  • Plain awesome can't believe anyone would dislike this.

  • that was nice

  • ah, It's not tuned in EADGBE. I see.

  • The rose on the headstock is beautiful !!

  • that was greatness!

  • daffydoug, check "Doyle Dykes B bender techniques" I think he explained the tuning there. Good luck....

  • What tuning is he using? Anybody know?

  • @daffydoug DGDGAD - open G except the 2nd string is an A

  • He ain't "blessed by god"...it's called practice!

  • @MorningBuzz they aren't mutually exclusive

  • @MorningBuzz where does talent come from? where does the desire to practice come from? where does music come from?

  • @jdlow77 Where? The human brain. Next question: Where did this amazing brain come from? Billions of years of evolution.

  • @jdlow77 Answer: the human brain. Next question will be: "and where did this amazing brain come from?" Billions of years of evolution. Hey, thanks for posting. Great video, we can agree he is awesome!

  • @jdlow77 aspiration

  • @jdlow77

God has really blessed Doyle Dykes...

It's kind of funny because Doyle himself gives thanks to God. Also his daughter is a big part of the Assemblies of God.

  • @benbrown4544 i went to one of his more private concerts at newell's music in greenwood, SC and he told about a story of the white rose signature on all is guitars. it's a pretty good story but too long to put in 500 characters so you'd have to look it up

  • @GamertagIsTURTLER9

I've heard about that story. His daughter wanted it and a lady at one of his shows had given it to him in foil. She said God had told her to give it to him. So powerful man.

  • @jdlow77 yourself

  • @jdlow77 Every guitarist who practices and has talent beleives in god?

  • @BrianPurge no, but clearly Doyle does.

  • @jdlow77 so it doesn't make a difference if they do or don't, right?

  • @jdlow77 yeah except one exists and one doesnt....

  • What the F**k has bein a christian got to do with bein good at the guitar, crazy Hill Billy yocals lol.

  • Wow - My favorite tune--- what a great adaption of it... top picker!

  • awesome finger picking.

  • Extraordinaire ! Ca c'est du picking comme on aime.

  • If I wanted to lie to myself I'd say, "One day, I'll be able to play like this." This dude rocks the living sh*t out of Wabash Cannonball. Absolutely amazing.

  • I just saw him yesterday perform at my work. WOW, great player.

  • I'm an Atheist, and I absolutely adore and respect Doyle Dykes' and Tommy Emmanuel's playing. It's guitar. Religion is another issue.

  • This guy performs at my church every once in a while. Amazing finesse.

  • Thank you C.W, for this awesome singing & playing, brilliant, best wishes Ann:))

  • great

  • Tune your guitar to DGDGAD. You'll be flying before you Know it. It's the behind the nut bend that gives it away. Keep picking youall !

  • I love this stuff!

  • He's broken through to the guitar paradise

  • he chenes it open g chord but unfortunately my high e string wont stretch that car and it just snaps its so frustrating id love to learn this even though its ridiculously hard

can anyone help me with my problem?

  • @TheReilly8

Tune your guitar down and put a capo on it. ie. if he is tuned to G B D G B G tune your guitar to E Ab B E Ab E put a capo on the 3rd fret and Bob's your uncle.

Alternatively use a lighter gauge for the problem string

  • @AbbaGoldEurope thanks for ur advise although i think i might run out of fret board while playin it but thanks anyway mate

  • @TheReilly8 use higher guage strings?

  • Tab. I must have a tab. This is incredible!

  • @Jcm9991 if you can't figure it out by ear a tab is not going to help you

  • @KKK666Nazi Lol, by ear? That would be impossible (for me anyway)

  • @Jcm9991 what i am trying to say, is if you couldn't play somthing like that by just figuring it out, your musical knowledge is not great enough to be able to play it by looking @ a tab

  • this is the kind of stuff that makes me want to just set my guitar down in the corner and never touch it again. this guys amazing

  • id like to see him shred some banjo too!

  • What is that tuning your using Doyle please?

  • @FrankSavage dadgad

  • Doyle has an amazing RIGHT and left hand!

  • very nice guitarist. Dont get what religion comments are doing here at all.

  • swet :)

  • Doyle Dykes makes his guitar sound like a guitar-banjo duet! When he bends that note, you can hear the train a-comin', a-comin' round the bend...,. The progression down the neck of his guitar send shivers down my neck. This is a totally virtuoso definitive Wabash Cannonball. What was that stuff about his being Christian? Who cares? I come to YouTube for the music! Geez Louise! (a bowdlerism for those who don't want anyone to take the name of their deity in vain.)

  • Just saw this guy last night. Met him and he's a really nice gent. My dad was with me and he got a taylor with his autograph.

  • Hands down the best signature model Taylor has done, the TSSM, JMSM and DMSM don't even compare and never will. It's a beautiful guitar.......

  • Hey boys your mom calling time for your attitude adjustment!!!

  • i love his guitar taylor ddsm beautiful!

  • Wow...I think he's the best acoustic player ever...and the tuning device is just a Peterson Strobe tuner...130 to 200 bucks. Nothing too special...but Doyle is a great musician.

  • This guy came to our little church in Hayward California, you should hear his testimony. Elvis Presley wanted to hire him, he is one of the cleanest finger pickers I've heard.

  • do you like andy mckee then?

hes mad but a different style to this lad^^

  • @skydiver555

Thank you for the introduction to Andy Mckee, I'd never heard of him. Yes I do like his playing, your right it's a different style, not particularly my style but he's definitely got over the top skills. I enjoyed that very much, thank you skydiver555.

  • @Frosty1962 He is a special man. I have seen him twice and heard his story. For my graduation present my parents bought me a Doyle Dykes Signature Series from the custom shop. It's a one of a kind, not a production model, and was featured in the Namm Show. I knew that his guitar was something I wanted. Later in life it will be a great story to tell others about where my instrument came from and about Doyle and his life.

  • @tooleleven

How nice, a custom signature guitar. You not only have a great guitar but a story that goes with it. Doyle is so underrated it's not even funny. I'd love to see him again.

  • where can i get free tabs for it?

  • Yeah!! Jumpy rhythm n_n!

Did anyone notice that the tuning device of that guitar is as awesome as Doyle...? O_o

  • enjoyed...thnx

  • hmm... not bad for a christian, you dont get better than that! has anyone ever noticed that the best musicians are always christians.

  • hmmm, would you say tommy emmanuel is a good player, because he's a Christian. How about Paul Jackson Jr. (guitarist on American Idol band), he's also a Christian. How about Abe Laboriel? Also a Christian.

  • I suspect I was taking the piss out of another comment.

Couldn't give two shits about anyone's religious nonsense.

  • but you would agree he's a pretty good guitar player...

  • He's superb. Fantastic rhythm and touch.

  • @jdlow77 you're both ignorant. even if you don't like this kind of music you should be able to agree he is an AMAZING guitar player...

  • @jdlow77 He's a goddamned great guitar player.

  • @acr08807 he's a god blessed great guitar player :)

  • @jdlow77 Got a question for you. How can we tell the difference among a guitar player blessed by God, one who is just naturally good and one who made a deal with the Devil?

  • @acr08807 Ever seen the movie Crossroads?

  • @jdlow77 pretty good ?? this is ignorance the guy is just perfect !!

  • @KARNAGE94 (re your reply to jdlow77 who uploaded this) He/she was responding to someone else's comment about 10 pages back... the "you agree he's pretty good, right" was with regards to someone dissing Doyle's faith which is a huge part of his drive to "perfect" his "gift" since he believes his talent was given to him to better humanity/encourage people, not to get glory/fame/riches on earth. The uploader was intentionally understating his massive ability ;)

  • @Malc180s

If u live in America u better get used to it, Christians are everywhere and we're not going anywhere.

  • @clevelandtyler2 Aren't christians illegal in america?

  • @Malc180s

damn near...all these liberals and democrats hate christians

  • @jdlow77 Religion creates wars and death,God creates great guitar players like Doyle!!

  • @jdlow77 Abe Laboriel is a Christian, but he's not a good guitar player.

  • @acr08807 no, he's a great bass player!

  • @jdlow77 All the players you mentioned are world class pros,to bad they preach false man made reilgions,Let me hear the great guitar playing but keep the religion to yourself

  • @cast390 nothin man made about the gospel of jesus christ

  • @jdlow77 God is real, but the religions that surround him are false manmade lies

  • the coolest thing os my last name is doyle yet I'm a oreo

  • God Damn this guy fucking rules.

  • One crazy way to do b-bending on acoustic. Also the ending is an amaizing combination of techniques.

  • @mikosoft Yeah, how does his guitar not go out of tune doing that !?!? Man, this is such a great vid. Sounds like the train is running off the tracks around 2:15. He has got so much style. My new favorite guitarist :)

  • great player

  • Speechless. Holy himini hi.

  • WICKED ENDING!

  • He comes to my guitar shop every few months.

  • man this guy has soul, love love it

  • where can i get tabs for this?

  • There's a tab booklet that he has called "Fingerstyle guitar" it has very precise tablature for this song the "Wabash Cannonball"

  • @guitarman123ism yep I have it, it's really hard!!! shock...

  • Back a few months ago, I saw him play Live, I will never forget that awesome experience! Totally blew my mind!

  • @darklink45982

AWESOME! Yes! I first met Doyle 16 years ago. He was awesome before on the electric guitar. Do get to see him in person about twice a year...He is 10 times more awesome in person & keeps improving every year....I don't think he knows any any limits. His whole family & children are awesome musicians too.

  • How good can you get in guitar playing?!?!?

  • amazing... very nice... he takes his music seriously as we all can see!

  • he came to my church too, he's got wicked fast fingers....really good

  • he came to my church and played these songs

  • Amazing

  • Well played. well played. Beautiful ending by the way

  • I saw him a few years back. Seeing him in person was unreal even compared to a video. My mom is a music teacher and i've spent my whole life around music even we were floored at the sound that came from one guy and one guitar. At times, it sounded like a harp or a whole band of string instruments

  • you would love Tommy Emmanuel then, check him out~~~~!

  • Just discoved this guy. A real guitar player who does it for the love of music.

  • @analyzingfunny look up Sungha Jung, that kid is amazing. he also plays for the love of music

  • What kind of guitar does Doyle play?

  • He's a country fingerpicker. If you like his music, you should look for videos by Jerry Reed, Tommy Emmanuel, and Chet Atkins, they all have similar styles.

  • Taylor

  • It' the DDSM Taylor. (Doyle Dykes Signature Model). It has a hexaphonic pick up and sounds sweet as a nut when he plugs into his Rivera Sedona amp which is his signature amp.

  • He signed his own amp?

  • LOL, sort of. It's an amp that he sat down and designed in conjunction with Rivera. The same with his guitar. I have seen him live in England at Taylor workshops about 7 times. The sound from the guitar out of that amp is beautiful. He's also a gentleman too.

  • Oh, cool. Where do they put the hexaphonic pickups on a DDSM? I thought it was an acoustic guitar.

  • It is an acoustic. The "hexaphonic" pick up means that there is an individual pick up for every string down at the bridge end. L.R Baggs make it so you know it's quality. Most of the other Taylors have the expression system on them which is a pick up under the bridge and neck to catch the vibrations of teh sound board. The DDSM though when I looked was about 4000 pounds compared to 1400 pounds for my 310ce.

  • Thanks, you know your stuff.

4,000 pounds sounds like a lot for a guitar for me, though. I'm not that strong.

  • He's no doubt a great guitarist, but he doesn't respect his audience. He keeps gining them "the finger" during his performance (at 2:28 for example).

  • WOW.... seriously? He is barring the strings to play chords when he does that, not flipping off the crowd. Grow up.

  • I don't take orders from you, McHarrison.

  • i can tell that u don't know how to play the guitar

  • Yoiu can't tell doodlesquat, jack.

  • Actually he can and so can I.

  • Maybe you two experts could take lessons together in identifying sarcasm, because you're both sorely lacking on that front.

  • So the point on your original comment was to show how awesome you are using sarcasm?

  • No. It's not about me at all. The point was to see which guy or two in here was clueless enough to miss it completely. And now we know.

    Mission Accomplished!

  • Why would you do something like that? It's absurd.

  • I like to screw with lesser minds. I know, it's not much of a hobby, but I find it relaxing.

  • So you just sucumb to puny little insults to hide your lack of satisfaction from life? You say i have a lesser mind and that I play with myself? You're 45 years old! Don't you have a family or a job? Stop being this Youtube know-it-all that you so much allegedly hate.

  • Yes, I say that you have a lesser mind and that you play with yourself.

  • You didn't answer my question.

  • and how old are u?

    Grow up

see unlike you, other people play music that don't invovle bar chords

    what he does takes talent

    which u probly don't have

  • Real musicians call them "barre chords," not "bar chords." God, save me from Youtube know-it-alls and other fools.

We're dealing with four different skill levels here: I play well, I don't play nearly as well as Doyle Dykes does. You play Guitar Hero. Badly. And mashafasha5 plays with himself. Also badly.

And you two still don't know how to spot sarcasm, even when someone tells you it is sarcasm. How pathetic is that?

  • real muscians don't spend their time lecturing morons on youtube.

  • Everyone deserves a musical education, even morons.

  • I've seen this guy 7 times in England when he does the Taylor Guitar workshops. He is jaw droppingly brilliant that leaves all others in his wake. Yeah Tommy Emmanuel is great but Doyle is better. His Banjo licks on guitar are so unique!

  • I don't know how you judge that one is better. Tommy's left hand dexterity is far superior to Doyle or anyone else I've seen short of Segovia.

  • I think they're both great in their own way.

  • amen..

  • I saw this guy at a Sam Ash clinic. I was mezmerized with his talent. The guy is right up there with the best. His attitude and his interaction with the audience was nothing but pure humility and graciousness.Class act all the way !!!

  • WOW!

Is he actually tuning his guitar as he plays?

  • not necessarily tuning his guitar but using the the change in tuning to bend the note... the man is pure genius in my opinion... I consider his talent right up there with Chet Atkins and the now late Les Paul.
