I've been taking 10 mg of escitalopram for 5 weeks now for anxiety (and depression). They seem to work well for me, only side effects is somewhat drowsy/tired (but not much) and it takes longer to reach an orgasm, but the orgasm is still pretty good (I'm a girl). The positive effects are unexpected. I feel more like myself when I was happy in the past, I can focus more on tasks, things have meaning, and the anxiety is almost gone. The cloud has lifted. But don't use ssri if you don't need it!
I have been on this since i was 15.. im nearly 19.. i hate it. I'm on 20mg and if i forget to take it for a couple of days i feel so angry and suicidal and turn into a mega bitch. I always have a slight headache and feel tired. Its so annoying! :( I only feel like myself two thirds of the tim!
I think i want to get off it, but I cant afford the mood swings at work or with my partner/friends/family :( any ideas??
@maddykate17x - 5-HTP... also, you have to lower the dosage if you want to quit: say start by taking 10mg, insteed of 20,then take 5mg and so on -- you cant just stop
DONT TAKE THIS DRUG it fucks you up its a deception it wont help you, it will make you feel better like any other street drug but in the end the side effects will out way the false feel good factor. There no such thing as an in-balance in the brain, the phychastrist dont even know how the drugs work or how to measure this so called chemical in-balance, they call life's ups & downs a chemical in-balance theat needs treatment. All most people need to do is try harder to live & be happy.
10mg of Cipralex IS way strong. I'm on my second day and I already feel fucking wired. I have serious muscle tension, especially in my jaw. My palms are sweaty, I have absolutely no appetite, feel nauseous and because of all the tension in my jaw/neck, I have a headache. I felt these side effects literally a couple of hours after taking my first pill yesterday. It's mad, really hope these side effects wear off asap!

Then i my heart started racing again. nearly blacked out .didnt know what was happening to me. Then i threw up 3 times. Not taking them again. Ill say that to the doctors. Ill take headaches over vomiting.
my doctor prescribed me cipralex, but it seems like alot of people have really bad experiences with it, If I take it, will it have a side effect on me for sure? is it possible that some of you tried it and never experienced any side effects?

@patagon2918 Can you at least whack off? (btw ur doc should be monitering your sex drive and everything, make sure u tell whoever is monitereing you EVERTYING. Your deppest and darkest secrets. Why? Because ciprealex can be expected to make suicidal thoughts in some so you always need to tell everything. ;)
I am now put on it and I am 15. It is my 4th antidepressants. My first was Prozac 20, gradually up to 40, last year. It wasn't helping. Then 75mg of Effexor (doc perscribed it and it's not approved for my age). Then I was switched to Zoloft 50. After feeling this doctor was just fucking with me (not literally, lol) by putting me on so much shit, I saw a psychiatrist. I am now on 10mg of Lexapro for 2 weeks, then 20 from that point on. Maybe this is the one for me. I hope.
a med that works but should NOT be fist line tratment as it is, i´ll try omega 3 and vitamin d that boost serotonin as potent as lex without side effects, if you need more then u add lex
@anticenaguy I called my doctor today and found out that i got a prescription on 10mg, so the pharmacy had accidental given me 20mg...Im gone break the tablet in half like you said. so i'll hope it work now!
I suffer from anxiety and depression, but I haven't ever tried using and medicine. I started having one to one therapy sessions with my local mental healthcare center, and they gave me an amazing way to cope personally. It was just to accept that I'm having the thoughts, and they'd go away when I did! Now I'm definatly feeling a lot more at ease with it all...
@tobco79 well like i said my friend...there a several types of anti depressants which have different side effects, some people are lucky and dont experiance any side effects of any kind. Are you taking meds for your panic attacks?
@tobco79 There are a lot, but if you monitor yourself closely and take only the minimal amount you feel helps you, the side effects are very easy to handle.

Cipralex worked wonders for me and it was the first drug I got prescribed too.
I had to change it after side effectswere ruining my life, and thought nothing could compare until I tried Mirtazapine. (30 mg)
SSRI's are great if you don't get the side effects, unfortunately I did...
