  • I would like to know who the rest of the band is

  • I sure wouldn't want to cross MariAnne....my groin shrivels at the thought

  • @Sachabear1 yes totally. im reminded of John and Lorena Bobbit (Lorena cut of John's penis for cheating on her) every time i hear this song ...great classic piece of music this though...

  • 4 people were unfaithfull to Marianne...

  • wonderful song for a women of a real life

  • I LOVE Marianne. This is from one of my favorite albums.

  • i hope not this is one of my fav of marianne she is so so good ...tks for the reload and good luck ...enjouy a good day laura

  • Classic song. Album CD's Tapes replaced at least 6 times over the years due to ware!

  • can,t believe that this track is so unknown! but i,m trying to spread the gospel! stezyrezy

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tjacobs9 this lyrics make me horny

  • Never heard anything by this chick except for the sister morphine thing. This track kills, hopefully the whole album is this good.

  • oh, wow, i just lost any innocence that i had left at this point (although, admittedly, there was little)

  • It's been awhile, but just as good as the first time!

  • they should re release these albums

  • Every good woman likes a good spit on her laa laa lmfao !!

  • I Love her! The sheer rage embodied in this song is artistry!

  • hate Marianne for being beautiful with an equal voice!! stezyrezy

  • Sorry Babes. Won't do it again... :-(

  • WHAT A POWERFUL SONG, ART AT ITS BEST!

  • Nobody better spit on MY snatch, buddy.

  • Only Marianne could do this song (so bitter) ... yet I can still see the English schoolgirl singing 'As Tears Go By'. I'm sure Mick wrote it for his little girl.

  • I wonder if Tiger Woods has had this sung to him...

  • did marianne faithful make any other songs similiar to this one?

  • aaagh! BACK TO bARGOED where there were always good tasstes in music!

  • Loved it then, And love iteven more now!!!! Thanks for bringing it all back to me!!!!!

  • love this song.

  • And she is also the power within every woman, the primal duality and instinctual nature, with her good and bad weather. The men who fear her will never know her, the men who don't, who can stand her, face her, will see the great mother. This song is about her darkest side, the monster she becomes when crossed, which is just as needed as her nicest warmest side, hence keeping the balance and making her whole! Love it! One of the greatest songs ever writen about the power behind female essence.

  • @TheTrippybutterfly It wasnt wrotten just to shock. "Oh big grey mother I'll love you forever, with your bar wire pussy, and your good and bad weather" is a reference to the great pagan mother of all women and men, and the primal wildish female in every woman. Before Christianity, everybody would respond to the "big grey mother", the eastern europeans would call her the Yaga, in south american she was "la que sabe" the one who knows, she's had different names according to geography. She's god!

  • really like this a all time classic love the words to this song

  • love this song

  • @TheEvilflea Looked like SPAM, didn't it. The replies really weren't retarded.... just slow.

  • Alanis is relegated to rank amateur status...

  • awesome !

  • oh yes...this is brilliant!!!! hehe

  • @TheTrippybutterfly CONTACTME

  • @TheTrippybutterfly Unless you are just being obtuse?

  • @TheTrippybutterfly No. I wasnt calling you deaf. I was agreeing as in definately! lol

  • @TheTrippybutterfly Defo! :)

  • How good is the track, thanks for posting and all the recent comments are testament to how real this vibe is. Feeling for blackeyjr, what can you do to come back from that unless you're a real Marianne fan? But funny from where I'm standing.....LOVE the line (fishing aside)

  • I thought this was her feelings from her relationship with Mick Jagger. I heard it for the first time on a cassette/Broken English in 1983.

  • I was at a fishing lodge way up in Northern Canada with my brother and a couple friends back in 1980. We drove all day, by the time we got there all we wanted to do was party. So we set up the stereo in the cabin and we blasted this song, the exact moment when she sings "every time i see your dick i see her cunt in my bed" A family of 4 walked in the door, apparently we were supposed to share the cabin.

Most awkward fishing weekend ever, by far.

  • @halo77054 Tell him to do one....NO ONE should be cheated on!

  • This contriversial six-and-a-half-minute piece was based on the infamous Heathcote Williams poem. Island records in Australia deleted the song from Marianne's "Broken English" album because of the 'sick' lyrics. However, when the album was re-released in 1988, Island records decided to include "Why D'ya Do It", and the rest, they say, is history!

  • brilliant classic marianne faithfull

  • @halo77054 lol..

  • Marianne is the only person who could carry off this song! I forgot how much I love her!

  • Oh Gilda.

  • I wonder if Hillary sang this to Bill ...

  • @Seasass

    lololololololololol

  • @Seasass ...good one!!! hahaha...hell has no wrath like a woman scorned!!!!

  • @Seasass Hillary is smart enough not o be led by ego. The intern slut might have had his cock, but she has his heart and respect!

  • @heucatia Very true :) Still, it would have been totally understandable if this had been her initial, visceral reaction.

  • i kept my balls in a vice for a whole fucking week once. i wouldn't recommend it.

  • perfect song for your lying ways james

  • I owned this on cassette and loved it, but I always felt like I needed a shower after listening to this song!!

  • She seems...Only a little bit pissed :P

  • Such a great tune...classiiiic!

  • thanks for the upload - let's fight censorship together: you upload it, we click it!

  • I know I was missing out! But not anymore.Got rid of all the bitches that would not let me listen to Broken English.Just have to find my album now.

  • @toyotireso My Ex hated this song. She run off with someone but I then had her back. Id play this & it obviously made HER feel bad!F88K them bitches!

  • @toyotireso you said it first ! clever! steztrezy

  • XXX. If you have sensitive ears back away!.... & If you don't TURN IT UP!

  • best break-up song ever.

  • Fantastic...I have not heard this song in like 30 years

  • The version on "Blazing Away" is way better, more intense, more bitter, BETTER!

  • @BigAndTall666 Nah....This is the way we were first introduced to this little ditty.

Police Raided Record Shops in Australia back in 79 when this was released, and they weren't mucking around.

No woman had EVER sung like this before.....and this was little Marianne..

    Fucking superb album.

  • hahaha....Perfect....was in the mood for this today and hadn't heard it in years

    Marianne kicks it

  • Thank you for posting this song. I've searched high and low for it.

  • what a great song all a rage her sorrow with such a rage great survivor rock and roll

why you do why t you said why you do what you did...... so much love behind her rage

llllllllllloooooooooooveeeeeeee this album so much energy

    laurence

  • loved this song in the 70s and still do

  • Great track! It sounds a lot like some of Grace Jones' music from the same period. Grace could do an awesome cover of this song!

  • Before Alanis Morrisette got all testy and heart-broken, there was the one and only MF! Her lyrics make AM seem like a teener having a bad hair day!

  • I saw just the meanest punk stripper ever come out and do her thing on stage to this song about 20 years ago and laughed my drunken ass off!

  • love this track.........BRILLL

  • Great 1979-1980 club track - when you do that CD of strong women vocals - please: Rain-Dorothy Morrison, and New York New York-Nina Hagen are my modest proposals, & please have a vinyl LP version - thanks for posting this cult gem - DAVEDJ

  • Does anybody know what phrase 'big grey mother' referes to?

  • @DManiek

I think what she is referring to is just an BIG OLD MF!

  • @DManiek I think its just a big old MF

  • @DangrusDana

    thanks ! :)

  • How about calling it 'Women Who Run With The Wolves' ?

  • Embarrassingly bad.

  • ConnDevi88.....you should perhaps call your compilation CD chicks with clit...makes more sense

  • writer of the lyrics: Heathcote Williams who was paid 500 pounds for the rights. No one was trying to take him. It just worked out that it turned into a masterpiece and he died before Marianned could have given him more compensation which I truly believe she would have done.

  • Comment removed

  • She made this record in response to Mick Jagger leaving her for Bianca

  • Thank you James Staneye Gray for this song. I hate you Jon David Conner you piece of worthless shit

  • Thank you James Stanely Gray for this song. I hat you Jon Conner you are nothing but a mean little asshole,

  • this is what music can be.....................banned back in 1980 but we had it anyhow on an album a friend brought back from the USA. A top poster was released to promote this album with Marianne in a leather mini, dragging on a cig............do it, do it, just do it!

  • this woman is so fucking awesome.

  • Doubt that, from what I've read the lyrics for this song were adapted from a poem written by Heathcote Williams...

  • Wow amazing this song sounds a lot like grunge but made 20 years before, amazing!

  • A musician friend of mine told me this song is directed at Bianca Jagger, which makes sense when you consider Mick was two-timing Marianne: "When I look at your dick I see her cunt in my bed."

  • @angel4everable No way: she's friends w/ Jagger & Jagger. It's another dick and another bed: it's universal. Besides, he did not write "Wild Horses" for Bianca.

  • @12birddog12 Marianne attempted suicide by swallowing approximately 100 Tuinals. Mick was at her side when she came out of the coma and told her that he thought that he had lost her. She replied that wild horses wouldn't drag her away. He wrote the lyrics for her and about their relationship.

  • @DancesWithJoy I meant that Mick wrote the lyrics to Wild Horses as a result of that incident.

  • This chick ROCKS.More More.

  • Great track, reminds me, of me...

  • 1980..............so cool...........

  • I heard her do it last night. She doesn't do such an angry delivery now. It's more of a matter of fact delivery, I guess. People were laughing with her at the irony of the lyrics.

  • Sad, barbgerry. I can't believe it!!

  • a very powerful rock 'n' roll song...a killer band...a masterpiece of controlled anger.

  • One of my old fav, must get the record out tonight and BLAST it.....

  • Blast blast blast. LOVE this one.

  • I proudly played the 12" version of `Broken English' for a friend who asked if I played the flip side `Why D'Ya Do It?' and i said I didn't.

We then lsitened to it and i think I stood there with my mouth open in disbelief.

Only a singer who is a skilled actress as well could make this work as Miss Faithfull did. She's amazing!

  • Yeah... it has the same kind of feel as Liebertango. Another great track.

  • This is the "OUCH"! Song - she takes this song and POURS it out there - NO mincing words.....It is downright BALLSY!

I LOVE the way Marianne emotes this song!!!! FANTASTIC!!!!!!

  • @atisaseret No "emoting" here. She OWNS it, it's HER'S. Just TRY to tell her otherwise! She's a masterpiece!

  • I think Marianne coined the phrase "Fuck you, you fucking fuck!"

  • @19881994for2 Yeah she did!!!

  • @19881994for2 Abso-fucking-lutely spot-fucking-on . . . lol

  • @19881994for2 Well you know she has the distinction of being the first woman to say Fuck in a movie.

  • clarity has a price in the mainstream ,

  • She is fantastic songer...thank you very much this song :)...

Her voice is so OOOUUHH...there is also few woman who can sing so fantastic: Deborah Harry, Patti Smith and Sinead O'Connor...

  • I'm making a mix CD called "Chicks With Balls" full of songs by women that kick your ass (music wise). This is the perfect final song to my mix!

  • Sounds like a great name for a CD =)

  • @fallenleaf25 Grace Jones would also be good in that mix.

  • @ConnDevi88 lol hope it has some Liz Phair

  • @deSadetheImpaler I actually haven't started lol

  • @ConnDevi88 Then Don't forget Lee Arron Canadian Babe who rocked it..

  • @ConnDevi88 send when its done!!!

  • @LEGSUDESIRE I completely forgot about making it. Thanks for reminding me

  • @ConnDevi88 if you want to share it, please let me know

  • @ConnDevi88 Why oh why is it whenever a woman is powerful she is referred to as having 'balls'? As though only men could possible have strength. Please give me a break. Marianne and all like her DO NOT have balls: they have ovaries. They are real women and feminine and not men at all.

  • @DancesWithJoy Because "Chicks With Ovaries" would be a disturbing name for a CD

  • @ConnDevi88 Yeah I can hear that although I think it sounds more dumb than disturbing. How about, "Women Who Won't Be Ignored" ? No that sounds lame too, I'll come up with something that is not obvious like women who rock.

  • @DancesWithJoy I appreciate that. I still have to make the mix, I keep forgetting it.

  • @ConnDevi88 Who else you got in the mix?

  • @miajaan i still need to work on it but so far I've thought of Patti Smith, L7 and possibly Nina Hagen. Feel free to give suggestions.

  • @ConnDevi88 Hello again yes Nina 's nun sex punk rock springs to mind. I dont know how old you are but Nina Simone is not rock but she certainly had plums. Sinead Oconner just for that song that prince penned for her, Chrissie Hynde and Bjork! And a Joan Armatrading before "me myself"

  • @miajaan I'll be 23 in April.

  • @ConnDevi88 Wendy O' Williams and the Plasmatics

  • @ConnDevi88 COURTNEY LOVE?

  • @ConnDevi88 I am very sorry, I must steal this title for my playlist here on youtube :) I would love to hear your mix CD though!

  • @guzsaj Feel free, I probably wont ever get to making it anyway. I have so many other themed mixes I want to make. I'm calling my series of mixes "Connpilations" and they will be completely random and silly.

  • @ConnDevi88 you"re awesome :D

  • @guzsaj Thanks.

  • @ConnDevi88 Then the followup to your CD is Chicks with Dicks!

  • thumbs up, this is a great song , you gotta love it

  • Classic.............

  • A Mudd Club anthem! When Freddie..Scott and Kathy took the floor..especially!

One of the most interesting lyrics of all time: "Why'da do what you did..'cause she had cobwebs up her fanny and I believe in giving to the poor"! lolol

  • Another great dancer from Dukes Dilemma.

  • This was a seminal album for me, along with my life in the bush of ghosts Eno/Byrne, it started me looking for so much more that was not mainstream. Great to hear it again

  • ahh. love this song :P i put this record on last week haha

  • Lets hope the powers that be leave it alone this time.... Thx for returning it........Right on

  • Cool guitar and quite raunchy for it's time!

  • Raunchy for it's time? You weren't around in the early 80s, where you???

  • yeah, but just as a little kid. Why?.... Were the 80's raunchy? Was this norm? I don't remember this type of music.....mostly Top 40 stuff. I heard this for the 1st time in 1996. I dug it then. It sounded new and unique. Still does!

  • I just dug out my cassette of 'broken english' and the copyright date is 1979. wow thirty years ago and long before alannis morissette's, 'you oughtta know'

  • 1979's when this record came out

  • "Raunchy for it's time", you weren't around in the early 80s, where you???

  • Although I can list lots of Marianne's tunes, this always is my favorite... It has an excellent guitar riff, smooth drums, etc... Just a perfect composition...

  • Thanks for posting. Great music!!

  • nice song
