These are cool, the rehearsal videos are kind of like reality music somethings. Rod still sounds very good, his voice is totally impressive and he is in great shape, from playing soccer and all that he does. Wonder when his next concert is, or is he in concert now? Am I too lazy to go look? Yeah, I guess. Ah shucks.

It's something called an in-ear monitor. It is used is because singers cannot hear themselves naturally during their performances. This is caused by two concurrent problems; the amount of sound during a performance and something called your inner ear. When you speak or sing, you hear all the vibrations from your throat and diaphragm; we do not. In-ear monitors help to relay your "true" sound back to you, which is why you may see some singers and guitarists put their finger in their ear.
