Thank you so much for your 'home made' tips for this stitch. it really helped me do this roll stitch so much easier. The hint about the needle was also helpful. Thanks for your great videos.
HOW INGENOUS OF YOU!!! I really appreciate this, I have been trying to work this stitch this morning for an afghan that calls for TEN wraps.....I no longer off to the FUNNY FARM....BTW, I'M GOING TO GO SPLIT A PLASTIC DRINKING STRAW - ON TO SPLITTING THE GARDEN HOSE...JUST KIDDING ON THAT.
Hi Teresa thank you for the tutorial on the Bullion Stitch I was out of luck in finding a Roll Stitch hook up here in AK so I went surfing and found your tutorial on here:-) this saves me allot of money and you make it look so simple to do this stitch, I have always stayed away from making this stitch and I just have to try adding this to some of my crochet projects.. thanks for the cool lesson.. also nice to run into you again it's been a while. take care
Teresa, thank you so much! I have fought this stitch and fought it. I just could not get it to work. Thanks to your idea with the tubing and the needle, I actually got it to work. Thank you!
@kristeniihrh You are welcome! I have always used the Boye crochet hook. The hook part is out from the hook where the Susan Bates is in a little closer. The end hook placement is going to make a big difference in the success of the stitch.
Teresa, Your crocheting skills are strong, and I suspect you will have success with the bullion stitch, IF YOU wrap the yarn under your crochet hook, thus allowing the twist of the yarn to remain twisted as it lays upon your hook.
By yarning UNDER your hook the yarn will hold its 'twist' which allows your hook to slide through the multiple yarn-unders without grabbing onto exposed single ply of the yarn.
Teresa this is a very helpful tips .. this technique is superb... the one with the tapestry needle is the best one .. and can move more faster ... love it ... thanks ...
You could incorporate the stitch with tunisian crochet. You could work your main work on the crohook and have a second hook set up for the bullion stitch.
Did you mean latch hook? I had a latch hook handy and was inspired by your comment to try it. The bar of the hook is rather skinny and I found I was unable to pull the loops wound over it--even loosely--over the thicker..um..hook enclosure (term?). I tried leaving the loops very loose, but I couldn't maintain consistency in the loop size. It turned out to be an unwieldy mess. Oh well, it was fun trying! Maybe someone else could try and post her results. Thanks tjw1963 for the techniques.
Wow. I've been crocheting for a long time, and had never heard of this stitch. Thanks for posting the tutorial. This is really cool. You should consider getting a patent for your "contraption"; especially the one with the tapestry needle. Kudos to you!
OOps Teresa, I guess I wasn't paying attention... You made flowers out of this work... Sorry about that! I guess it's the time, should go to bed! Hugs, Louisa
I have not really seen much of it but when I do, it is made next to something. I have seen it in granny squares. It could be used in a hat. Many of the pieces in my bruges lace have it as an accent border around the individual motifs.
so cool great idea . your smart!! been crocheting since I was a kid . on again and off again craft I do. your instructions are very well done. I will have to try out this technique. thanks!!
I tried it with a straw and didn't like the ones I had. I found the straw was to transparent so I could not see where I was pulling my hook through. I would wind up pulling my hook on the straw and bending it. It can be done. Colorful straws would work better.
I love this!! I just tried it along with the video and found that the bigger the needle the higher the chance of success of getting the needle to pull through with no problems. Make sure you don't do the loops too tight, even around the widest part of the needle. It also helps to press down on the top of the yarn that's wrapped around the needle as you bring the head of the needle through. I'll try and make a video or take pictures today to show what I mean.
Thank you!!!! I've just been doing a piece which requires a bullion edging, and my efforts on the swatch were pathetic. After your brilliant video, I'm more confident. Thank you!
What a great idea with the tubing. I also tried bullion stitch and had similar problems when trying to get the loop through the others, it always ended up in a tangle. Thanks for the tips.

Just picked up tubing. I was using a piece of straw from one of my son's Capri Suns. The tubing should be more stable.

I love this tip. I usually work with #10 and #20 thread and a #7 steel hook and found that a drinking straw was perfect for this.
I am curious do you ever do sequin or bead work, and if so do you have any tricks to share
Thanks

could i use tape to hole the tapestry needle
OuijaGurl 3 years ago
I don't know. I have found that floral tape works for smaller hooks since I posted the video. You could try it but it might leave your hook sticky.
