Mr Barenboim plays really majestically this beautiful piece... But... THE BEST INTERPRETATION OF THE LAST 111 YEARS comes from Maestro V. @gogglrte Actually, the piece you're talking about is "Beethoven Virus", and it's a cover made by Banya to Pump It Up (that dance game that you have to step arrows...).
@Thestienway Then you have seen so few... Baremboim is OK, but check Gould, Argerich, Kissin, Lisitsa, Lang, Brendel, Arrau, Zimmerman, Levin, Jando... and I'm sure there are a lot more that they're not famous...

If you're 11 years old (If I read the comment correctly), you might want to wait a few more years until your hands get bigger.
Pathetique is much easier after lots of practice and bigger hands. You might also want to try learning another one of Beethoven's easier sonatas to get the feel of how his harder sonatas are to be played.
Well, it never hurts to try some other pieces. If you want, try learning the rest of Moonlight, and if the 3rd movement is too hard, then learn some other piano pieces before you learn something like the Pathetique.
Chopin's waltzes and nocturnes work on your playing quality. Some of Mozart's longer pieces work on your endurance without being too hard. Handel is pretty fun to play.
Just be really careful of not going TOO fast. That wouldn't be good. I hope all of that helped :)
@nirmz94 A 1 octave hand span is perfectly normal and perfectly awesome :D
I guess I'm just being a douche and a perfectionist whenever someone asks me about "if I can learn..." etc. Did you learn the Pathetique 2 years ago? That's really good, 'cause I'm a guy and when I was 13 years old my hands were tiny lol. This may sound weird, but it's what you can do with your 1 octave hand instead of how big you can stretch it comfortably or how fast you can play^^
@PeachandCream Haha, you're not being a douche! :) And perfectionism is a good thing for pianists. I've had a one octave handspan for years though, but it makes Beethoven quite hard sometimes. Btw it sounds a little weird, but I get it :)
He's a pianist, not a suiter for your sister. I don't know Mr. Barenboim personally and I only know a little about his politics, which I admittedly find a little odd. But he is respresenting his art here, nothing else. Comments such as yours are unnecessarily vulgar and not appropriate for this forum. If you had a valid artistic gripe that's OK, but this kind of comment merely serves as grafitti on Youtube.
"Suiter for my sister", how long have you been waiting to crack out that gem? Hey listen this is one of the most beautiful interpretations of the 3rd movement in my opinion, no artistic gripe at all, just wanted take it to the next level. I mean have you watched a masterclass with this guy?
I saw his masterclass with Lang Lang. I liked it a lot. I think he is one of the great musical geniuses of our time. Ironically, I did see him once in concert in NY and he had an off night and he just wasn't that good. But I have tremendous regard for him musically.
As for the comment "suiter for your sister" I don't know where it came from. But I think it's a good line. I wasn't saving it, it just popped up. I am assuming you really liked it. So, thank you.

The camera angles and the lighting are perfect for this music and Barenboim's mastery in capturing Beethoven's concepts and intentions! What a performance!
Barenboim is the only pianist I know that can actually make a fast movement sound like a "slow" movement without drastically changing the tempo. amazing!
In fact, he plays some parts of this Rondo-Allegro at 108/halfnote and others at 86 or even slower. He is thus very free towards the tempo, using several speeds. He is indeed changing tempo within this movement and sometimes he does so drastically. Anyone who really knows the score would notice. I would say that his playing is very free and flexible, beautifully shaped. He doesn't make a priority of bringing forth the structure but prefers emotion and playfulness.
dont forget that music is all about emotions so its not a machine playing by the beat. he's a human being and its normal that he changes the tempo according to his feelings. thats a thing we all piano players do
Well, Develish16, if you meant to respond to me I don't think that I really stressed that B. was 'a machine playing by the beat' neither that one should play in that manner. Meanwhile I wouldn't go as far as you to consider music being 'all about emotions' unless you consider all human thought as being 'emotion'. I think avoiding such kind of limitations helps us to open up endless possibilities. By the way, it's possible that yout didn't see to what I responded in my previous post.
yeah i guess that and i should also tell u that i didnt read all of the comment in the first place i just read about how fast is he playing, but anyway i agree that human thought isnt just directed by emotions or else we wouldnt have been to the moon. all im saying is that u can sometimes get carried aways while playing. that's because of the beauty and the spiritual effect of the piece on hand.
He's the best one who plays this song around here... So pity that the sound quality is not quite good, so I get hurt after listening. But, Thank you very much for sharing such beautiful performance !!!
long live ludwig van and also mr. baremboin.this 3rd movement releases the tension accumulated by the fantastic preceeding 2 movements.what an excelsus baremboin
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
As in the first movement, too many alterations in tempo resulting in a serious dissipation of forward motion, just where it is most required. Otherwise, a nearly respectable performance.
Thank you very much!

The camera angles and the lighting are perfect for this music and Barenboim's mastery in capturing Beethoven's concepts and intentions! What a performance!

Barenboim is the only pianist I know that can actually make a fast movement sound like a "slow" movement without drastically changing the tempo. amazing!
Grigor99 3 years ago 4

Great performance. Thanks for post this video!
(He isn't a robot to play all the keys in tempo. This is just his interpretation, and its the diference beetween a good and a bad musician!)

As in the first movement, too many alterations in tempo resulting in a serious dissipation of forward motion, just where it is most required. Otherwise, a nearly respectable performance.
